1 As for you, my dear son, take strength from the grace which is in Christ Jesus.	1 Tu adunque, figliuol mio, prendi vigore nella grazia, che è in Cristo Gesù.
2 Pass on to reliable people what you have heard from me through many witnesses so that they in turn wilbe able to teach others.	2 E le cose, che hai udite da me con molti testimoni, confidale ad uomini fedeli, i quali saranno idonei ad insegnarle anche ad altri.
3 Bear with your share of difficulties, like a good soldier of Christ Jesus.	3 Sopporta le afflizioni qual buon soldato di Cristo Gesù.
4 No one on active service involves himself in the affairs of civilian life, because he must win the approvalof the man who enlisted him;	4 Nissuno ascritto alla milizia di Dio s'impaccia de' negozi del secolo, al fine di piacere a colui che lo ha arruolato.
5 or again someone who enters an athletic contest wins only by competing in the sports -- a prize can bewon only by competing according to the rules;	5 Imperocché anche colui, che combatte nell'agone, non è coronato, se non ha combattuto secondo le leggi.
6 and again, it is the farmer who works hard that has the first claim on any crop that is harvested.	6 Fa d'uopo che l'agricoltore prima lavori, affine di partecipare de' frutti.
7 Think over what I have said, and the Lord wil give you ful understanding.	7 Pon mente a quello, ch' io dico imperocché il Signore daratti intelligenza in tutte le cose.
8 Remember the gospel that I carry, 'Jesus Christ risen from the dead, sprung from the race of David';	8 Ricordati, che il Signor Gesù Cristo del seme di David risuscitò da morte secondo il mio vangelo.
9 it is on account of this that I have to put up with suffering, even to being chained like a criminal. ButGod's message cannot be chained up.	9 Pel quale io patisco sino alle catene, qual malfattore: ma la parola di Dio non è incatenata.
10 So I persevere for the sake of those who are chosen, so that they, too, may obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.	10 Per questo ogni cosa io sopporto per amor degli eletti, affinchè eglino pure conseguino la salute, che è in Cristo Gesù, con la gloria celeste.
11 Here is a saying that you can rely on: If we have died with him, then we shal live with him.	11 Parola fedele: se insieme siamo morti, insieme ancor viveremo:
12 If we persevere, then we shal reign with him. If we disown him, then he wil disown us.	12 Se saremo tolleranti, regneremo insieme: se (lo) rinnegheremo, egli pure rinnegherà noi:
13 If we are faithless, he is faithful still, for he cannot disown his own self.	13 Se non crediamo, egli riman fedele, non può negare se stesso.
14 Remind them of this; and tell them in the name of God that there must be no wrangling about words: althat this ever achieves is the destruction of those who are listening.	14 Tali cose rammenta, e rettifica alla presenza del Signore. Fuggì le dispute di parole: imperocché ciò non è buono a nulla, fuori che a sovvertir gli uditori.
15 Make every effort to present yourself before God as a proven worker who has no need to be ashamed,but who keeps the message of truth on a straight path.	15 Studiati di comparire degno d'approvazioue davanti a Dio, operaio non mai svergognato, che rettamente maneggi la parola di verità.
16 Have nothing to do with godless philosophical discussions -- they only lead further and further awayfrom true religion.	16 Fuggì però que' profani, e favolosi discorsi: imperocchè molto si avanzano nell'empietà:
17 Talk of this kind spreads corruption like gangrene, as in the case of Hymenaeus and Philetus,	17 E il loro discorso va serpendo come gangrena: tra quali è Imeneo, e Fileto,
18 the men who have gone astray from the truth, claiming that the resurrection has already taken place.They are upsetting some people's faith.	18 I quali sono andati lungi dalla verità, dicendo, che la risurrezione è già seguita, ed hanno sovvertita la fede di alcuni.
19 However, God's solid foundation-stone stands firm, and this is the seal on it: 'The Lord knows thosewho are his own' and 'Al who cal on the name of the Lord must avoid evil.'	19 Ma saldo sta il fondamento di Dio,che ha questo segno: conosce il Signore quegli, che sono suoi; e si ritiri dall'iniquità chiunque invoca il nome del Signore.
20 Not al the dishes in a large house are made of gold and silver; some are made of wood orearthenware: the former are held in honour, the latter held cheap.	20 Del rimanente in una casa grande vi sono non solo de' vasi d'oro, e d'argento, ma anche di legno, e di terra: ed altri sono di rispetto, altri ad uso vile.
21 If someone holds himself aloof from these faults I speak of, he wil be a vessel held in honour,dedicated and fit for the Master, ready for any good work.	21 Se uno pertanto si monderà da tali cose, sarà vaso di rispetto, santificato, e utile pel Signore, disposto ad ogni buona opera.
22 Turn away from the passions of youth, concentrate on uprightness, faith, love and peace, in union withal those who cal on the Lord with a pure heart.	22 Fuggì le passioni gioventù, segui la giustizia, la fede, la carità, e la pace con quelli, che invocano il Signore con puro cuore.
23 Avoid these foolish and undisciplined speculations, understanding that they only give rise to quarrels;	23 Rigetta le pazze, ed immodeste dispute: sapendo, che generano delle liti.
24 and a servant of the Lord must not engage in quarrels, but must be kind to everyone, a good teacher,and patient.	24 Or al servo di Dio non si conviene di litigare: ma di essere mansueto con tutti, pronto ad istruire, paziente,
25 He must be gentle when he corrects people who oppose him, in the hope that God may give them achange of mind so that they recognise the truth	25 Che con modestia riprenda quelli, che resistono alla verità: se mai Dio desse loro la penitenza per conoscere la verità,
26 and come to their senses, escaping the trap of the devil who made them his captives and subjectedthem to his will.	26 E ritornino in se (sciolti) dai lacci del diavolo, da cui son tenuti schiavi a sua voglia.
