2 Timothy 2

1 As for you, my dear son, take strength from the grace which is in Christ Jesus.	1 E tu, figlio mio, attingi forza dalla grazia che è in Cristo Gesù:
2 Pass on to reliable people what you have heard from me through many witnesses so that they in turn wilbe able to teach others.	2 le cose che hai udito da me davanti a molti testimoni, trasmettile a persone fidate, le quali a loro volta siano in grado di insegnare agli altri.
3 Bear with your share of difficulties, like a good soldier of Christ Jesus.	3 Come un buon soldato di Gesù Cristo, soffri insieme con me.
4 No one on active service involves himself in the affairs of civilian life, because he must win the approvalof the man who enlisted him;	4 Nessuno, quando presta servizio militare, si lascia prendere dalle faccende della vita comune, se vuol piacere a colui che lo ha arruolato.
5 or again someone who enters an athletic contest wins only by competing in the sports -- a prize can bewon only by competing according to the rules;	5 Anche l’atleta non riceve il premio se non ha lottato secondo le regole.
6 and again, it is the farmer who works hard that has the first claim on any crop that is harvested.	6 Il contadino, che lavora duramente, dev’essere il primo a raccogliere i frutti della terra.
7 Think over what I have said, and the Lord wil give you ful understanding.	7 Cerca di capire quello che dico, e il Signore ti aiuterà a comprendere ogni cosa.
8 Remember the gospel that I carry, 'Jesus Christ risen from the dead, sprung from the race of David';	8 Ricòrdati di Gesù Cristo, risorto dai morti, discendente di Davide, come io annuncio nel mio Vangelo,
9 it is on account of this that I have to put up with suffering, even to being chained like a criminal. ButGod's message cannot be chained up.	9 per il quale soffro fino a portare le catene come un malfattore. Ma la parola di Dio non è incatenata!
10 So I persevere for the sake of those who are chosen, so that they, too, may obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.	10 Perciò io sopporto ogni cosa per quelli che Dio ha scelto, perché anch’essi raggiungano la salvezza che è in Cristo Gesù, insieme alla gloria eterna.
11 Here is a saying that you can rely on: If we have died with him, then we shal live with him.	11 Questa parola è degna di fede: Se moriamo con lui, con lui anche vivremo;
12 If we persevere, then we shal reign with him. If we disown him, then he wil disown us.	12 se perseveriamo, con lui anche regneremo; se lo rinneghiamo, lui pure ci rinnegherà;
13 If we are faithless, he is faithful still, for he cannot disown his own self.	13 se siamo infedeli, lui rimane fedele, perché non può rinnegare se stesso.
14 Remind them of this; and tell them in the name of God that there must be no wrangling about words: althat this ever achieves is the destruction of those who are listening.	14 Richiama alla memoria queste cose, scongiurando davanti a Dio che si evitino le vane discussioni, le quali non giovano a nulla se non alla rovina di chi le ascolta.
15 Make every effort to present yourself before God as a proven worker who has no need to be ashamed,but who keeps the message of truth on a straight path.	15 Sfòrzati di presentarti a Dio come una persona degna, un lavoratore che non deve vergognarsi e che dispensa rettamente la parola della verità.
16 Have nothing to do with godless philosophical discussions -- they only lead further and further awayfrom true religion.	16 Evita le chiacchiere vuote e perverse, perché spingono sempre più all’empietà quelli che le fanno;
17 Talk of this kind spreads corruption like gangrene, as in the case of Hymenaeus and Philetus,	17 la parola di costoro infatti si propagherà come una cancrena. Fra questi vi sono Imeneo e Filèto,
18 the men who have gone astray from the truth, claiming that the resurrection has already taken place.They are upsetting some people's faith.	18 i quali hanno deviato dalla verità, sostenendo che la risurrezione è già avvenuta e così sconvolgono la fede di alcuni.
19 However, God's solid foundation-stone stands firm, and this is the seal on it: 'The Lord knows thosewho are his own' and 'Al who cal on the name of the Lord must avoid evil.'	19 Tuttavia le solide fondamenta gettate da Dio resistono e portano questo sigillo: Il Signore conosce quelli che sono suoi, e ancora: Si allontani dall’iniquità chiunque invoca il nome del Signore.
20 Not al the dishes in a large house are made of gold and silver; some are made of wood orearthenware: the former are held in honour, the latter held cheap.	20 In una casa grande però non vi sono soltanto vasi d’oro e d’argento, ma anche di legno e di argilla; alcuni per usi nobili, altri per usi spregevoli.
21 If someone holds himself aloof from these faults I speak of, he wil be a vessel held in honour,dedicated and fit for the Master, ready for any good work.	21 Chi si manterrà puro da queste cose, sarà come un vaso nobile, santificato, utile al padrone di casa, pronto per ogni opera buona.
22 Turn away from the passions of youth, concentrate on uprightness, faith, love and peace, in union withal those who cal on the Lord with a pure heart.	22 Sta’ lontano dalle passioni della gioventù; cerca la giustizia, la fede, la carità, la pace, insieme a quelli che invocano il Signore con cuore puro.
23 Avoid these foolish and undisciplined speculations, understanding that they only give rise to quarrels;	23 Evita inoltre le discussioni sciocche e da ignoranti, sapendo che provocano litigi.
24 and a servant of the Lord must not engage in quarrels, but must be kind to everyone, a good teacher,and patient.	24 Un servo del Signore non deve essere litigioso, ma mite con tutti, capace di insegnare, paziente,
25 He must be gentle when he corrects people who oppose him, in the hope that God may give them achange of mind so that they recognise the truth	25 dolce nel rimproverare quelli che gli si mettono contro, nella speranza che Dio conceda loro di convertirsi, perché riconoscano la verità
26 and come to their senses, escaping the trap of the devil who made them his captives and subjectedthem to his will.	26 e rientrino in se stessi, liberandosi dal laccio del diavolo, che li tiene prigionieri perché facciano la sua volontà.
