Galatians 5

1 Christ set us free, so that we should remain free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be fastenedagain to the yoke of slavery.	1 State dunque saldi e non vi lasciate imporre di nuovo il giogo di servitù.
2 I, Paul, give you my word that if you accept circumcision, Christ wil be of no benefit to you at al .	2 Ve l'assicuro io, Paolo, che se vi circoncidete, Cristo non vi gioverà niente.
3 I give my assurance once again to every man who accepts circumcision that he is under obligation tokeep the whole Law;	3 E di nuovo dichiaro a chiunque si fa circoncidere che egli è tenuto all'osservanza di tutta quanta la legge.
4 once you seek to be reckoned as upright through the Law, then you have separated yourself fromChrist, you have fal en away from grace.	4 Non avete più che fare con Cristo voi che cercate la giustizia nella legge, siete caduti di grazia;
5 We are led by the Spirit to wait in the confident hope of saving justice through faith,	5 perchè è dallo Spirito per la fede che noi aspettiamo la speranza della giustizia;
6 since in Christ Jesus it is not being circumcised or being uncircumcised that can effect anything -- onlyfaith working through love.	6 infatti in Cristo Gesù non ha valore la circoncisione o l'incirconcisione, ma la fede operante per la carità.
7 You began your race wel ; who came to obstruct you and stop you obeying the truth?	7 Correvate a maraviglia! Chi vi trattenne dall'obbedire alla verità?
8 It was certainly not any prompting from him who called you!	8 Questa persuasione non vien da colui che vi chiama.
9 A pinch of yeast ferments the whole batch.	9 Un po' di lievito altera tutta la massa.
10 But I feel sure that, united in the Lord, you wil not be led astray, and that anyone who makes troublewith you will be condemned, no matter who he is.	10 Riguardo a voi, io confido nel Signore che non la penserete diversamente, ma chi vi conturba, chiunque egli sia, porterà la sua condanna.
11 And I, brothers -- if I were stil preaching circumcision, why should I still be persecuted? For then theobstacle which is the cross would have no point any more.	11 Quanto a me, o fratelli, se predico ancora la circoncisione, com'è che sono sempre perseguitato? E sarebbe eliminato lo scandalo della croce.
12 I could wish that those who are unsettling you would go further and mutilate themselves.	12 Oh! Dio volesse che fossero tolti di mezzo a voi quelli che vi conturbano.
13 After al , brothers, you were called to be free; do not use your freedom as an opening for self-indulgence, but be servants to one another in love,	13 Voi certamente siete stati chiamati alla libertà, o fratelli, però questa libertà non la riducete ad occasione per vivere secondo la carne, ma servite gli uni agli altri per la carità dello spirito,
14 since the whole of the Law is summarised in the one commandment: You must love your neighbour asyourself.	14 perchè tutta la legge si compendia in questa sola parola: Ama il prossimo tuo come te stesso.
15 If you go snapping at one another and tearing one another to pieces, take care: you will be eaten up byone another.	15 Or se vi mordete e vi mangiate a vicenda, guardate di non finirvi.
16 Instead, I tel you, be guided by the Spirit, and you wil no longer yield to self-indulgence.	16 Or vi dico: camminate secondo lo spirito e non soddisferete i desideri della carne.
17 The desires of self-indulgence are always in opposition to the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are inopposition to self-indulgence: they are opposites, one against the other; that is how you are prevented fromdoing the things that you want to.	17 Infatti la carne ha desideri contrari allo spirito e lo spirito desideri contrari alla carne, essendo queste cose opposte fra loro in modo che non possiate fare tutto quel che vorreste.
18 But when you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the Law.	18 Ma se siete guidati dallo spirito, non siete sotto la legge.
19 When self-indulgence is at work the results are obvious: sexual vice, impurity, and sensuality,	19 Si conoscono facilmente le opere della carne, che sono la fornicazione, l'impurità, l'impudicizia, la lussuria,
20 the worship of false gods and sorcery; antagonisms and rivalry, jealousy, bad temper and quarrels,disagreements,	20 l'idolatria, i venefici, le inimicizie, le contese, le gelosie, le ire, le risse, le discordie, le sette,
21 factions and malice, drunkenness, orgies and al such things. And about these, I tel you now as I havetold you in the past, that people who behave in these ways wil not inherit the kingdom of God.	21 le invidie, gli omicidi, le ubriachezze, le gozzoviglie, ed altre simili cose, riguardo alle quali vi avverto, come vi ho già avvertiti, che chi fa tali cose non conseguirà il regno di Dio.
22 On the other hand the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, trustfulness,	22 Invece è frutto dello Spirito la carità, la gioia, la pace, la pazienza, la benignità, la bontà, la longanimità,
23 gentleness and self-control; no law can touch such things as these.	23 la mansuetudine, la fedeltà, la modestia, la continenza, la castità. Contro siffatte cose non v'è la legge.
24 All who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified self with al its passions and its desires.	24 Or quelli che sono di Cristo han crocifisso la loro carne coi vizi e le concupiscenze.
25 Since we are living by the Spirit, let our behaviour be guided by the Spirit	25 Se viviamo di spirito, camminiamo secondo lo spirito,
26 and let us not be conceited or provocative and envious of one another.	26 senza esser bramosi di vanagloria, senza provocarci o invidiarci a vicenda.
