Galatians 5

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBLIA
1 Christ set us free, so that we should remain free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be fastenedagain to the yoke of slavery.	1 Para ser libres nos libertó Cristo. Manteneos, pues, firmes y no os dejéis oprimir nuevamente bajo el yugo de la esclavitud.
2 I, Paul, give you my word that if you accept circumcision, Christ wil be of no benefit to you at al .	2 Soy yo, Pablo, quien os lo dice: Si os dejáis circuncidar, Cristo no os aprovechará nada.
3 I give my assurance once again to every man who accepts circumcision that he is under obligation tokeep the whole Law;	3 De nuevo declaro a todo hombre que se circuncida que queda obligado a practicar toda la ley.
4 once you seek to be reckoned as upright through the Law, then you have separated yourself fromChrist, you have fal en away from grace.	4 Habéis roto con Cristo todos cuantos buscáis la justicia en la ley. Os habéis apartado de la gracia.
5 We are led by the Spirit to wait in the confident hope of saving justice through faith,	5 Pues a nosotros nos mueve el Espíritu a aguardar por la fe los bienes esperados por la justicia.
6 since in Christ Jesus it is not being circumcised or being uncircumcised that can effect anything -- onlyfaith working through love.	6 Porque en Cristo Jesús ni la circuncisión ni la incircuncisión tienen valor, sino solamente la fe que actúa por la caridad.
7 You began your race wel ; who came to obstruct you and stop you obeying the truth?	7 Comenzasteis bien vuestra carrera, ¿quién os puso obstáculo para no seguir a la verdad?
8 It was certainly not any prompting from him who called you!	8 Semejante persuasión no proviene de Aquel que os llama.
9 A pinch of yeast ferments the whole batch.	9 Un poco de levadura fermenta toda la masa.
10 But I feel sure that, united in the Lord, you wil not be led astray, and that anyone who makes troublewith you will be condemned, no matter who he is.	10 Por mi parte, confío en el Señor que vosotros no pensaréis de otra manera; pero el que os perturba llevará su castigo, quienquiera que sea.
11 And I, brothers -- if I were stil preaching circumcision, why should I still be persecuted? For then theobstacle which is the cross would have no point any more.	11 En cuanto a mí, hermanos, si aún predico la circuncisión, ¿por qué soy todavía perseguido? ¡Pues se acabó ya el escándalo de la cruz!
12 I could wish that those who are unsettling you would go further and mutilate themselves.	12 ¡Ojalá que se mutilaran los que os perturban!
13 After al , brothers, you were called to be free; do not use your freedom as an opening for self-indulgence, but be servants to one another in love,	13 Porque, hermanos, habéis sido llamados a la libertad; sólo que no toméis de esa libertad pretexto para la carne; antes al contrario, servíos por amor los unos a los otros.
14 since the whole of the Law is summarised in the one commandment: You must love your neighbour asyourself.	14 Pues toda la ley alcanza su plenitud en este solo precepto: Amarás a tu prójimo como a ti mismo.
15 If you go snapping at one another and tearing one another to pieces, take care: you will be eaten up byone another.	15 Pero si os mordéis y os devoráis mutuamente, ¡mirad no vayáis mutuamente a destruiros!
16 Instead, I tel you, be guided by the Spirit, and you wil no longer yield to self-indulgence.	16 Por mi parte os digo: Si vivís según el Espíritu, no daréis satisfacción a las apetencias de la carne.
17 The desires of self-indulgence are always in opposition to the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are inopposition to self-indulgence: they are opposites, one against the other; that is how you are prevented fromdoing the things that you want to.	17 Pues la carne tiene apetencias contrarias al espíritu, y el espíritu contrarias a la carne, como que son entre sí antagónicos, de forma que no hacéis lo que quisierais.
18 But when you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the Law.	18 Pero, si sois conducidos por el Espíritu, no estáis bajo la ley.
19 When self-indulgence is at work the results are obvious: sexual vice, impurity, and sensuality,	19 Ahora bien, las obras de la carne son conocidas: fornicación, impureza, libertinaje,
20 the worship of false gods and sorcery; antagonisms and rivalry, jealousy, bad temper and quarrels,disagreements,	20 idolatría, hechicería, odios, discordia, celos, iras, rencillas, divisiones, disensiones,
21 factions and malice, drunkenness, orgies and al such things. And about these, I tel you now as I havetold you in the past, that people who behave in these ways wil not inherit the kingdom of God.	21 envidias, embriagueces, orgías y cosas semejantes, sobre las cuales os prevengo, como ya os previne, que quienes hacen tales cosas no heredarán el Reino de Dios.
22 On the other hand the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, trustfulness,	22 En cambio el fruto del Espíritu es amor, alegría, paz, paciencia, afabilidad, bondad, fidelidad,
23 gentleness and self-control; no law can touch such things as these.	23 mansedumbre, dominio de sí; contra tales cosas no hay ley.
24 All who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified self with al its passions and its desires.	24 Pues los que son de Cristo Jesús, han crucificado la carne con sus pasiones y sus apetencias.
25 Since we are living by the Spirit, let our behaviour be guided by the Spirit	25 Si vivimos según el Espíritu, obremos también según el Espíritu.
26 and let us not be conceited or provocative and envious of one another.	26 No busquemos la gloria vana provocándonos los unos a los otros y envidiándonos mutuamente.
