Galatians 5

NEW JERUSALEM	DIODATI
1 Christ set us free, so that we should remain free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be fastenedagain to the yoke of slavery.	1 STATE adunque fermi nella libertà, della quale Cristo ci ha francati, e non siate di nuovo ristretti sotto il giogo della servitù.
2 I, Paul, give you my word that if you accept circumcision, Christ wil be of no benefit to you at al .	2 Ecco, io Paolo vi dico che se siete circoncisi, Cristo non vi gioverà nulla.
3 I give my assurance once again to every man who accepts circumcision that he is under obligation tokeep the whole Law;	3 E da capo testifico ad ogni uomo che si circoncide, ch’egli è obbligato ad osservar tutta la legge.
4 once you seek to be reckoned as upright through the Law, then you have separated yourself fromChrist, you have fal en away from grace.	4 O voi, che siete giustificati per la legge, Cristo non ha più alcuna virtù in voi; voi siete scaduti dalla grazia.
5 We are led by the Spirit to wait in the confident hope of saving justice through faith,	5 Perciocchè noi, in Ispirito, per fede, aspettiamo la speranza della giustizia.
6 since in Christ Jesus it is not being circumcised or being uncircumcised that can effect anything -- onlyfaith working through love.	6 Poichè in Cristo Gesù nè la circoncisione, nè l’incirconcisione non è d’alcun valore; ma la fede operante per carità.
7 You began your race wel ; who came to obstruct you and stop you obeying the truth?	7 Voi correvate bene; chi vi ha dato sturbo per non prestar fede alla verità?
8 It was certainly not any prompting from him who called you!	8 Questa persuasione non è da colui che vi chiama.
9 A pinch of yeast ferments the whole batch.	9 Un poco di lievito lievita tutta la pasta.
10 But I feel sure that, united in the Lord, you wil not be led astray, and that anyone who makes troublewith you will be condemned, no matter who he is.	10 Io mi confido di voi nel Signore, che non avrete altro sentimento; ma colui che vi turba ne porterà la pena, chiunque egli si sia.
11 And I, brothers -- if I were stil preaching circumcision, why should I still be persecuted? For then theobstacle which is the cross would have no point any more.	11 Ora, quant’è a me, fratelli, se io predico ancora la circoncisione, perchè sono ancora perseguito? lo scandalo della croce è pur tolto via.
12 I could wish that those who are unsettling you would go further and mutilate themselves.	12 Oh! fosser pur eziandio ricisi coloro che vi turbano!
13 After al , brothers, you were called to be free; do not use your freedom as an opening for self-indulgence, but be servants to one another in love,	13 Poichè voi siete stati chiamati a libertà, fratelli; sol non prendete questa libertà per un’occasione alla carne; ma servite gli uni agli altri per la carità.
14 since the whole of the Law is summarised in the one commandment: You must love your neighbour asyourself.	14 Perciocchè tutta la legge si adempie in questa unica parola: Ama il tuo prossimo, come te stesso.
15 If you go snapping at one another and tearing one another to pieces, take care: you will be eaten up byone another.	15 Che se voi vi mordete, e divorate gli uni gli altri, guardate che non siate consumati gli uni dagli altri.
16 Instead, I tel you, be guided by the Spirit, and you wil no longer yield to self-indulgence.	16 OR io dico: Camminate secondo lo Spirito, e non adempiete la concupiscenza della carne.
17 The desires of self-indulgence are always in opposition to the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are inopposition to self-indulgence: they are opposites, one against the other; that is how you are prevented fromdoing the things that you want to.	17 Poichè la carne appetisce contro allo Spirito, e lo Spirito contro alla carne; e queste cose son ripugnanti l’una all’altra; acciocchè non facciate qualunque cosa volete.
18 But when you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the Law.	18 Che se siete condotti per lo Spirito, voi non siete sotto la legge.
19 When self-indulgence is at work the results are obvious: sexual vice, impurity, and sensuality,	19 Ora, manifeste son le opere della carne, che sono: adulterio, fornicazione, immondizia, dissoluzione,
20 the worship of false gods and sorcery; antagonisms and rivalry, jealousy, bad temper and quarrels,disagreements,	20 idolatria, avvelenamento, inimicizie, contese, gelosie, ire, risse, dissensioni,
21 factions and malice, drunkenness, orgies and al such things. And about these, I tel you now as I havetold you in the past, that people who behave in these ways wil not inherit the kingdom of God.	21 sette, invidie, omicidii, ebbrezze, ghiottonerie, e cose a queste simiglianti; delle quali cose vi predico, come ancora già ho predetto, che coloro che fanno cotali cose non erederanno il regno di Dio.
22 On the other hand the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, trustfulness,	22 Ma il frutto dello Spirito è: carità, allegrezza, pace, lentezza all’ira, benignità, bontà, fedeltà, mansuetudine, continenza.
23 gentleness and self-control; no law can touch such things as these.	23 Contro a cotali cose non vi è legge.
24 All who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified self with al its passions and its desires.	24 Or coloro che son di Cristo hanno crocifissa la carne con gli affetti, e con le concupiscenze.
25 Since we are living by the Spirit, let our behaviour be guided by the Spirit	25 Se noi viviamo per lo Spirito, camminiamo altresì per lo Spirito.
26 and let us not be conceited or provocative and envious of one another.	26 Non siamo vanagloriosi, provocandoci gli uni gli altri, invidiandoci gli uni gli altri
