Galatians 5

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBLES DES PEUPLES
1 Christ set us free, so that we should remain free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be fastenedagain to the yoke of slavery.	1 Le Christ nous a libérés pour que nous soyons libres, donc soyez fermes et ne retombez pas dans l’esclavage.
2 I, Paul, give you my word that if you accept circumcision, Christ wil be of no benefit to you at al .	2 C’est moi, Paul, qui vous le dis: si vous recevez la circoncision, le Christ ne vous servira plus de rien.
3 I give my assurance once again to every man who accepts circumcision that he is under obligation tokeep the whole Law;	3 Je dis clairement à quiconque se fait circoncire: tu es maintenant obligé de pratiquer toute la Loi.
4 once you seek to be reckoned as upright through the Law, then you have separated yourself fromChrist, you have fal en away from grace.	4 Vous qui prétendez gagner des mérites grâce aux pratiques de la Loi, vous avez perdu le Christ et vous êtes retombés du monde de la grâce.
5 We are led by the Spirit to wait in the confident hope of saving justice through faith,	5 Mais nous, l’Esprit nous donne la ferme conviction que nous serons des justes aux yeux de Dieu grâce à la foi.
6 since in Christ Jesus it is not being circumcised or being uncircumcised that can effect anything -- onlyfaith working through love.	6 Quand on est dans le Christ Jésus, avoir ou non la circoncision n’est plus une valeur; seule vaut la foi qui agit grâce à l’amour.
7 You began your race wel ; who came to obstruct you and stop you obeying the truth?	7 Vous marchiez bien, qui vous a dit de vous arrêter et de ne plus suivre la vérité?
8 It was certainly not any prompting from him who called you!	8 Car ce que vous écoutez n’est pas la voix de celui qui vous a appelés.
9 A pinch of yeast ferments the whole batch.	9 Mais ce n’est qu’un peu de levure qui cherche à soulever toute la pâte.
10 But I feel sure that, united in the Lord, you wil not be led astray, and that anyone who makes troublewith you will be condemned, no matter who he is.	10 Je suis convaincu dans le Seigneur que vous penserez exactement comme moi; mais celui qui sème la confusion devra être jugé, quel qu’il soit.
11 And I, brothers -- if I were stil preaching circumcision, why should I still be persecuted? For then theobstacle which is the cross would have no point any more.	11 Moi aussi, frères, je pourrais faire maintenir la circoncision: croyez-vous que je serais encore persécuté? Mais voilà, ce serait fini du scandale de la croix.
12 I could wish that those who are unsettling you would go further and mutilate themselves.	12 Si seulement ceux qui vous révolutionnent pouvaient se mutiler pour de bon!
13 After al , brothers, you were called to be free; do not use your freedom as an opening for self-indulgence, but be servants to one another in love,	13 Frères, votre vocation c’est la liberté. Non pas cette liberté qui sert à justifier les appels de la chair, mais celle qui nous met au service les uns des autres par amour.
14 since the whole of the Law is summarised in the one commandment: You must love your neighbour asyourself.	14 Car la Loi se résume en une seule phrase: Tu aimeras ton prochain comme toi-même.
15 If you go snapping at one another and tearing one another to pieces, take care: you will be eaten up byone another.	15 Mais si vous vous mordez et vous déchirez les uns les autres, prenez garde: vous en arriverez à tous vous détruire.
16 Instead, I tel you, be guided by the Spirit, and you wil no longer yield to self-indulgence.	16 Donc je vous dis: vivez selon l’esprit, et vous ne céderez pas aux désirs de la chair.
17 The desires of self-indulgence are always in opposition to the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are inopposition to self-indulgence: they are opposites, one against the other; that is how you are prevented fromdoing the things that you want to.	17 Les désirs de la chair vont contre l’esprit et les désirs de l’esprit contre la chair; ils s’opposent l’un à l’autre de sorte que vous ne faites pas comme vous voulez.
18 But when you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the Law.	18 Mais être conduit par l’Esprit, ce n’est pas obéir à une loi.
19 When self-indulgence is at work the results are obvious: sexual vice, impurity, and sensuality,	19 On connaît bien les œuvres de la chair: liberté sexuelle, impureté, débauche
20 the worship of false gods and sorcery; antagonisms and rivalry, jealousy, bad temper and quarrels,disagreements,	20 idolâtrie, mauvais sorts, inimitiés, querelles, colère, jalousie, emportement, rivalités, divisions, sectes,
21 factions and malice, drunkenness, orgies and al such things. And about these, I tel you now as I havetold you in the past, that people who behave in these ways wil not inherit the kingdom of God.	21 envie, excès de boisson, de nourriture et tout le reste. Je vous l’ai déjà dit et je le répète: ceux qui font ces choses-là, n’hériteront pas du royaume de Dieu.
22 On the other hand the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, trustfulness,	22 Par contre les fruits de l’Esprit sont: amour, joie, paix, largeur d’esprit, générosité, bonté, foi,
23 gentleness and self-control; no law can touch such things as these.	23 douceur, maîtrise de soi. Ce sont des choses qu’aucune loi ne condamne.
24 All who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified self with al its passions and its desires.	24 Et de fait, ceux qui appartiennent au Christ ont crucifié la chair avec ses mouvements et ses désirs.
25 Since we are living by the Spirit, let our behaviour be guided by the Spirit	25 Si nous vivons par l’Esprit, vivons comme des spirituels:
26 and let us not be conceited or provocative and envious of one another.	26 renonçons à la vaine gloire, cessons de vouloir être les premiers et de jalouser les autres.
