Galatians 5

1 Christ set us free, so that we should remain free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be fastenedagain to the yoke of slavery.	1 Zur Freiheit hat uns Christus befreit. Bleibt daher fest und lasst euch nicht von neuem das Joch der Knechtschaft auflegen!
2 I, Paul, give you my word that if you accept circumcision, Christ wil be of no benefit to you at al .	2 Hört, was ich, Paulus, euch sage: Wenn ihr euch beschneiden lasst, wird Christus euch nichts nützen.
3 I give my assurance once again to every man who accepts circumcision that he is under obligation tokeep the whole Law;	3 Ich versichere noch einmal jedem, der sich beschneiden lässt: Er ist verpflichtet, das ganze Gesetz zu halten.
4 once you seek to be reckoned as upright through the Law, then you have separated yourself fromChrist, you have fal en away from grace.	4 Wenn ihr also durch das Gesetz gerecht werden wollt, dann habt ihr mit Christus nichts mehr zu tun; ihr seid aus der Gnade herausgefallen.
5 We are led by the Spirit to wait in the confident hope of saving justice through faith,	5 Wir aber erwarten die erhoffte Gerechtigkeit kraft des Geistes und aufgrund des Glaubens.
6 since in Christ Jesus it is not being circumcised or being uncircumcised that can effect anything -- onlyfaith working through love.	6 Denn in Christus Jesus kommt es nicht darauf an, beschnitten oder unbeschnitten zu sein, sondern darauf, den Glauben zu haben, der in der Liebe wirksam ist.
7 You began your race wel ; who came to obstruct you and stop you obeying the truth?	7 Ihr wart auf dem richtigen Weg. Wer hat euch gehindert, weiter der Wahrheit zu folgen?
8 It was certainly not any prompting from him who called you!	8 Was man auch gesagt hat, um euch zu überreden: es kommt nicht von dem, der euch berufen hat.
9 A pinch of yeast ferments the whole batch.	9 Ein wenig Sauerteig durchsäuert den ganzen Teig.
10 But I feel sure that, united in the Lord, you wil not be led astray, and that anyone who makes troublewith you will be condemned, no matter who he is.	10 Doch im Glauben an den Herrn bin ich fest davon überzeugt, dass ihr keine andere Lehre annehmen werdet. Wer euch verwirrt, der wird das Urteil Gottes zu tragen haben, wer es auch sei.
11 And I, brothers -- if I were stil preaching circumcision, why should I still be persecuted? For then theobstacle which is the cross would have no point any more.	11 Man behauptet sogar, dass ich selbst noch die Beschneidung verkündige. Warum, meine Brüder, werde ich dann verfolgt? Damit wäre ja das Ärgernis des Kreuzes beseitigt.
12 I could wish that those who are unsettling you would go further and mutilate themselves.	12 Diese Leute, die Unruhe bei euch stiften, sollen sich doch gleich entmannen lassen.
13 After al , brothers, you were called to be free; do not use your freedom as an opening for self-indulgence, but be servants to one another in love,	13 Ihr seid zur Freiheit berufen, Brüder. Nur nehmt die Freiheit nicht zum Vorwand für das Fleisch, sondern dient einander in Liebe!
14 since the whole of the Law is summarised in the one commandment: You must love your neighbour asyourself.	14 Denn das ganze Gesetz ist in dem einen Wort zusammengefasst: Du sollst deinen Nächsten lieben wie dich selbst!
15 If you go snapping at one another and tearing one another to pieces, take care: you will be eaten up byone another.	15 Wenn ihr einander beißt und verschlingt, dann gebt Acht, dass ihr euch nicht gegenseitig umbringt.
16 Instead, I tel you, be guided by the Spirit, and you wil no longer yield to self-indulgence.	16 Darum sage ich: Lasst euch vom Geist leiten, dann werdet ihr das Begehren des Fleisches nicht erfüllen.
17 The desires of self-indulgence are always in opposition to the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are inopposition to self-indulgence: they are opposites, one against the other; that is how you are prevented fromdoing the things that you want to.	17 Denn das Begehren des Fleisches richtet sich gegen den Geist, das Begehren des Geistes aber gegen das Fleisch; beide stehen sich als Feinde gegenüber, sodass ihr nicht imstande seid, das zu tun, was ihr wollt.
18 But when you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the Law.	18 Wenn ihr euch aber vom Geist führen lasst, dann steht ihr nicht unter dem Gesetz.
19 When self-indulgence is at work the results are obvious: sexual vice, impurity, and sensuality,	19 Die Werke des Fleisches sind deutlich erkennbar: Unzucht, Unsittlichkeit, ausschweifendes Leben,
20 the worship of false gods and sorcery; antagonisms and rivalry, jealousy, bad temper and quarrels,disagreements,	20 Götzendienst, Zauberei, Feindschaften, Streit, Eifersucht, Jähzorn, Eigennutz, Spaltungen, Parteiungen,
21 factions and malice, drunkenness, orgies and al such things. And about these, I tel you now as I havetold you in the past, that people who behave in these ways wil not inherit the kingdom of God.	21 Neid und Missgunst, Trink- und Essgelage und Ähnliches mehr. Ich wiederhole, was ich euch schon früher gesagt habe: Wer so etwas tut, wird das Reich Gottes nicht erben.
22 On the other hand the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, trustfulness,	22 Die Frucht des Geistes aber ist Liebe, Freude, Friede, Langmut, Freundlichkeit, Güte, Treue,
23 gentleness and self-control; no law can touch such things as these.	23 Sanftmut und Selbstbeherrschung; dem allem widerspricht das Gesetz nicht.
24 All who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified self with al its passions and its desires.	24 Alle, die zu Christus Jesus gehören, haben das Fleisch und damit ihre Leidenschaften und Begierden gekreuzigt.
25 Since we are living by the Spirit, let our behaviour be guided by the Spirit	25 Wenn wir aus dem Geist leben, dann wollen wir dem Geist auch folgen.
26 and let us not be conceited or provocative and envious of one another.	26 Wir wollen nicht prahlen, nicht miteinander streiten und einander nichts nachtragen.
