Christ set us free, so that we should remain free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be fastenedagain to the yoke of slavery.1 Stand firm, and do not be willing to be again held by the yoke of servitude.
I, Paul, give you my word that if you accept circumcision, Christ wil be of no benefit to you at al .2 Behold, I, Paul, say to you, that if you have been circumcised, Christ will be of no benefit to you.
I give my assurance once again to every man who accepts circumcision that he is under obligation tokeep the whole Law;3 For I again testify, about every man circumcising himself, that he is obligated to act according to the entire law.
once you seek to be reckoned as upright through the Law, then you have separated yourself fromChrist, you have fal en away from grace.4 You are being emptied of Christ, you who are being justified by the law. You have fallen from grace.
We are led by the Spirit to wait in the confident hope of saving justice through faith,5 For in spirit, by faith, we await the hope of justice.
since in Christ Jesus it is not being circumcised or being uncircumcised that can effect anything -- onlyfaith working through love.6 For in Christ Jesus, neither circumcision nor uncircumcision prevails over anything, but only faith which works through charity.
You began your race wel ; who came to obstruct you and stop you obeying the truth?7 You have run well. So what has impeded you, that you would not obey the truth?
It was certainly not any prompting from him who called you!8 This kind of influence is not from him who is calling you.
A pinch of yeast ferments the whole batch.9 A little leaven corrupts the whole mass.
But I feel sure that, united in the Lord, you wil not be led astray, and that anyone who makes troublewith you will be condemned, no matter who he is.10 I have confidence in you, in the Lord, that you will accept nothing of the kind. However, he who disturbs you shall bear the judgment, whomever he may be.
And I, brothers -- if I were stil preaching circumcision, why should I still be persecuted? For then theobstacle which is the cross would have no point any more.11 And as for me, brothers, if I still preach circumcision, why am I still suffering persecution? For then the scandal of the Cross would be made empty.
I could wish that those who are unsettling you would go further and mutilate themselves.12 And I wish that those who disturb you would be torn away.
After al , brothers, you were called to be free; do not use your freedom as an opening for self-indulgence, but be servants to one another in love,13 For you, brothers, have been called to liberty. Only you must not make liberty into an occasion for the flesh, but instead, serve one another through the charity of the Spirit.
since the whole of the Law is summarised in the one commandment: You must love your neighbour asyourself.14 For the entire law is fulfilled by one word: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”
If you go snapping at one another and tearing one another to pieces, take care: you will be eaten up byone another.15 But if you bite and devour one another, be careful that you are not consumed by one another!
Instead, I tel you, be guided by the Spirit, and you wil no longer yield to self-indulgence.16 So then, I say: Walk in the spirit, and you will not fulfill the desires of the flesh.
The desires of self-indulgence are always in opposition to the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are inopposition to self-indulgence: they are opposites, one against the other; that is how you are prevented fromdoing the things that you want to.17 For the flesh desires against the spirit, and the spirit against the flesh. And since these are against one another, you may not do whatever you want.
But when you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the Law.18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.
When self-indulgence is at work the results are obvious: sexual vice, impurity, and sensuality,19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest; they are: fornication, lust, homosexuality, self-indulgence,
the worship of false gods and sorcery; antagonisms and rivalry, jealousy, bad temper and quarrels,disagreements,20 the serving of idols, drug use, hostility, contentiousness, jealousy, wrath, quarrels, dissensions, divisions,
factions and malice, drunkenness, orgies and al such things. And about these, I tel you now as I havetold you in the past, that people who behave in these ways wil not inherit the kingdom of God.21 envy, murder, inebriation, carousing, and similar things. About these things, I continue to preach to you, as I have preached to you: that those who act in this way shall not obtain the kingdom of God.
On the other hand the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, trustfulness,22 But the fruit of the Spirit is charity, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, forbearance,
gentleness and self-control; no law can touch such things as these.23 meekness, faith, modesty, abstinence, chastity. There is no law against such things.
All who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified self with al its passions and its desires.24 For those who are Christ’s have crucified their flesh, along with its vices and desires.
Since we are living by the Spirit, let our behaviour be guided by the Spirit25 If we live by the Spirit, we should also walk by the Spirit.
and let us not be conceited or provocative and envious of one another.26 Let us not become desirous of empty glory, provoking one another, envying one another.
