1 Corinthians 11

NEW JERUSALEM	JERUSALEM
1 Take me as your pattern, just as I take Christ for mine.	1 Montrez-vous mes imitateurs, comme je le suis moi-même du Christ.
2 I congratulate you for remembering me so consistently and for maintaining the traditions exactly as Ipassed them on to you.	2 Je vous félicite de ce qu'en toutes choses vous vous souvenez de moi et gardez les traditionscomme je vous les ai transmises.
3 But I should like you to understand that the head of every man is Christ, the head of woman is man,and the head of Christ is God.	3 Je veux cependant que vous le sachiez: le chef de tout homme, c'est le Christ; le chef de lafemme, c'est l'homme; et le chef du Christ, c'est Dieu.
4 For any man to pray or to prophesy with his head covered shows disrespect for his head.	4 Tout homme qui prie ou prophétise le chef couvert fait affront à son chef.
5 And for a woman to pray or prophesy with her head uncovered shows disrespect for her head; it isexactly the same as if she had her hair shaved off.	5 Toute femme qui prie ou prophétise le chef découvert fait affront à son chef; c'estexactement comme si elle était tondue.
6 Indeed, if a woman does go without a veil, she should have her hair cut off too; but if it is a shamefulthing for a woman to have her hair cut off or shaved off, then she should wear a veil.	6 Si donc une femme ne met pas de voile, alors, qu'elle se coupe les cheveux! Mais si c'est unehonte pour une femme d'avoir les cheveux coupés ou tondus, qu'elle mette un voile.
7 But for a man it is not right to have his head covered, since he is the image of God and reflects God'sglory; but woman is the reflection of man's glory.	7 L'homme, lui, ne doit pas se couvrir la tête, parce qu'il est l'image et le reflet de Dieu; quant àla femme, elle est le reflet de l'homme.
8 For man did not come from woman; no, woman came from man;	8 Ce n'est pas l'homme en effet qui a été tiré de la femme, mais la femme de l'homme;
9 nor was man created for the sake of woman, but woman for the sake of man:	9 et ce n'est pas l'homme, bien sûr, qui a été créé pour la femme, mais la femme pour l'homme.
10 and this is why it is right for a woman to wear on her head a sign of the authority over her, becauseof the angels.	10 Voilà pourquoi la femme doit avoir sur la tête un signe de sujétion, à cause des anges.
11 However, in the Lord, though woman is nothing without man, man is nothing without woman;	11 Aussi bien, dans le Seigneur, ni la femme ne va sans l'homme, ni l'homme sans la femme;
12 and though woman came from man, so does every man come from a woman, and everything comesfrom God.	12 car, de même que la femme a été tirée de l'homme, ainsi l'homme naît par la femme, et toutvient de Dieu.
13 Decide for yourselves: does it seem fitting that a woman should pray to God without a veil?	13 Jugez-en par vous-mêmes. Est-il convenable que la femme prie Dieu la tête découverte?
14 Does not nature itself teach you that if a man has long hair, it is a disgrace to him,	14 La nature elle-même ne vous enseigne-t-elle pas que c'est une honte pour l'homme de porterles cheveux longs,
15 but when a woman has long hair, it is her glory? After all, her hair was given to her to be a covering.	15 tandis que c'est une gloire pour la femme de les porter ainsi? Car la chevelure lui a étédonnée en guise de voile.
16 If anyone wants to be contentious, I say that we have no such custom, nor do any of the churches ofGod.	16 Au reste, si quelqu'un se plaît à ergoter, tel n'est pas notre usage, ni celui des Eglises deDieu.
17 Now that I am on the subject of instructions, I cannot congratulate you on the meetings you hold;they do more harm than good.	17 Et puisque j'en suis aux recommandations, je n'ai pas à vous louer de ce que vos réunionstournent non pas à votre bien, mais à votre détriment.
18 In the first place, I hear that when you al come together in your assembly, there are separatefactions among you, and to some extent I believe it.	18 Car j'apprends tout d'abord que, lorsque vous vous réunissez en assemblée, il se produitparmi vous des divisions, et je le crois en partie.
19 It is no bad thing, either, that there should be differing groups among you so that those who are to betrusted among you can be clearly recognised.	19 Il faut bien qu'il y ait aussi des scissions parmi vous, pour permettre aux hommes éprouvésde se manifester parmi vous.
20 So, when you meet together, it is not the Lord's Supper that you eat;	20 Lors donc que vous vous réunissez en commun, ce n'est plus le Repas du Seigneur que vousprenez.
21 for when the eating begins, each one of you has his own supper first, and there is one going hungrywhile another is getting drunk.	21 Dès qu'on est à table en effet, chacun prend d'abord son propre repas, et l'un a faim, tandisque l'autre est ivre.
22 Surely you have homes for doing your eating and drinking in? Or have you such disregard for God'sassembly that you can put to shame those who have nothing? What am I to say to you? Congratulate you? Onthis I cannot congratulate you.	22 Vous n'avez donc pas de maisons pour manger et boire? Ou bien méprisez-vous l'Eglise deDieu, et voulez-vous faire honte à ceux qui n'ont rien? Que vous dire? Vous louer? Sur ce point, je ne vous louepas.
23 For the tradition I received from the Lord and also handed on to you is that on the night he wasbetrayed, the Lord Jesus took some bread,	23 Pour moi, en effet, j'ai reçu du Seigneur ce qu'à mon tour je vous ai transmis: le SeigneurJésus, la nuit où il était livré, prit du pain
24 and after he had given thanks, he broke it, and he said, 'This is my body, which is for you; do this inremembrance of me.'	24 et, après avoir rendu grâce, le rompit et dit: "Ceci est mon corps, qui est pour vous; faitesceci en mémoire de moi."
25 And in the same way, with the cup after supper, saying, 'This cup is the new covenant in my blood.Whenever you drink it, do this as a memorial of me.'	25 De même, après le repas, il prit la coupe, en disant: "Cette coupe est la nouvelle Alliance enmon sang; chaque fois que vous en boirez, faites-le en mémoire de moi."
26 Whenever you eat this bread, then, and drink this cup, you are proclaiming the Lord's death until hecomes.	26 Chaque fois en effet que vous mangez ce pain et que vous buvez cette coupe, vousannoncez la mort du Seigneur, jusqu'à ce qu'il vienne.
27 Therefore anyone who eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord unworthily is answerable for thebody and blood of the Lord.	27 Ainsi donc, quiconque mange le pain ou boit la coupe du Seigneur indignement aura àrépondre du corps et du sang du Seigneur.
28 Everyone is to examine himself and only then eat of the bread or drink from the cup;	28 Que chacun donc s'éprouve soi-même, et qu'ainsi il mange de ce pain et boive de cettecoupe;
29 because a person who eats and drinks without recognising the body is eating and drinking his owncondemnation.	29 car celui qui mange et boit, mange et boit sa propre condamnation, s'il ne discerne le Corps.
30 That is why many of you are weak and il and a good number have died.	30 Voilà pourquoi il y a parmi vous beaucoup de malades et d'infirmes, et que bon nombresont morts.
31 If we were critical of ourselves we would not be condemned,	31 Si nous nous examinions nous-mêmes, nous ne serions pas jugés.

33 So then, my brothers, when you meet for the Meal, wait for each other;	33 Ainsi donc, mes frères, quand vous vous réunissez pour le Repas, attendez-vous les uns lesautres.
34 anyone who is hungry should eat at home. Then your meeting wil not bring your condemnation. Theother matters I shal arrange when I come.	34 Si quelqu'un a faim, qu'il mange chez lui, afin de ne pas vous réunir pour votrecondamnation. Quant au reste, je le réglerai lors de ma venue.
