John 7

NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 After this Jesus travel ed round Galilee; he could not travel round Judaea, because the Jews wereseeking to kil him.	1 Después de esto, Jesús recorría la Galilea; no quería transitar por Judea porque los judíos intentaban matarlo.
2 As the Jewish feast of Shelters drew near,	2 Se acercaba la fiesta judía de las Chozas,
3 his brothers said to him, 'Leave this place and go to Judaea, so that your disciples, too, can see the works you are doing;	3 y sus hermanos le dijeron: «No te quedes aquí; ve a Judea, para que también tus discípulos de allí vean las obras que haces.
4 no one who wants to be publicly known acts in secret; if this is what you are doing, you should revealyourself to the world.'	4 Cuando uno quiere hacerse conocer, no actúa en secreto; ya que tú haces estas cosas, manifiéstate al mundo».
5 Not even his brothers had faith in him.	5 Efectivamente, ni sus propios hermanos creían en él.
6 Jesus answered, 'For me the right time has not come yet, but for you any time is the right time.	6 Jesús les dijo: «Mi tiempo no ha llegado todavía, mientras que para ustedes cualquier tiempo es bueno.
7 The world cannot hate you, but it does hate me, because I give evidence that its ways are evil.	7 El mundo no tiene por qué odiarlos a ustedes; me odia a mí, porque atestiguo contra él que sus obras son malas.
8 Go up to the festival yourselves: I am not going to this festival, because for me the time is not ripe yet.'	8 Suban ustedes para la fiesta. Yo no subo a esa fiesta, porque mi tiempo no se ha cumplido todavía».
9 Having said that, he stayed behind in Galilee.	9 Después de decirles esto, permaneció en Galilea.
10 However, after his brothers had left for the festival, he went up as well, not publicly but secretly.	10 Sin embargo, cuando sus hermanos subieron para la fiesta, también él subió, pero en secreto, sin hacerse ver.
11 At the festival the Jews were on the look-out for him: 'Where is he?' they said.	11 Los judíos lo buscaban durante la fiesta y decían: «¿Dónde está ese?».
12 There was a great deal of talk about him in the crowds. Some said, 'He is a good man'; others, 'No, heis leading the people astray.'	12 Jesús era el comentario de la multitud. Unos opinaban: «Es un hombre de bien». Otros, en cambio, decían: «No, engaña al pueblo».
13 Yet no one spoke about him openly, for fear of the Jews.	13 Sin embargo, nadie hablaba de él abiertamente, por temor a los judíos.
14 When the festival was half over, Jesus went to the Temple and began to teach.	14 Promediaba ya la celebración de la fiesta, cuando Jesús subió al Templo y comenzó a enseñar.
15 The Jews were astonished and said, 'How did he learn to read? He has not been educated.'	15 Los judíos, admirados, decían: «¿Cómo conoce las Escrituras sin haber estudiado?».
16 Jesus answered them: 'My teaching is not from myself: it comes from the one who sent me;	16 Jesús les respondió: «Mi enseñanza no es mía sino de aquel que me envió.
17 anyone who is prepared to do his wil , wil know whether my teaching is from God or whether I speakon my own account.	17 El que quiere hacer la voluntad de Dios conocerá si esta enseñanza es de Dios o si yo hablo por mi cuenta.
18 When someone speaks on his own account, he is seeking honour for himself; but when he is seekingthe honour of the person who sent him, then he is true and altogether without dishonesty.	18 El que habla por su cuenta busca su propia gloria, pero el que busca la gloria de aquel que lo envió, ese dice la verdad y no hay nada de falso en él.
19 Did not Moses give you the Law? And yet not one of you keeps the Law!	19 ¿Acaso Moisés no les dio la Ley? Pero ninguno de ustedes la cumple. ¿Por qué quieren matarme?».
20 The crowd replied, 'You are mad! Who wants to kil you?'	20 La multitud respondió: «Estás poseído por el demonio: ¿quién quiere matarte?».
21 Jesus answered, 'One work I did, and you are all amazed at it.	21 Jesús continuó: «Por una sola obra que realicé, ustedes están maravillados.
22 Moses ordered you to practise circumcision -- not that it began with him, it goes back to the patriarchs-- and you circumcise on the Sabbath.	22 Moisés les dio la circuncisión –aunque ella no viene de Moisés, sino de los patriarcas– y ustedes la practican también en sábado.
23 Now if someone can be circumcised on the Sabbath so that the Law of Moses is not broken, why areyou angry with me for making someone completely healthy on a Sabbath?	23 Si se circuncida a un hombre en sábado para no quebrantar la Ley de Moisés, ¿cómo ustedes se enojan conmigo porque he curado completamente a un hombre en sábado?
24 Do not keep judging according to appearances; let your judgement be according to what is right.'	24 No juzguen según las apariencias, sino conforme a la justicia».
25 Meanwhile some of the people of Jerusalem were saying, 'Isn't this the man they want to kil ?	25 Algunos de Jerusalén decían: «¿No es este aquel a quien querían matar?
26 And here he is, speaking openly, and they have nothing to say to him! Can it be true the authoritieshave recognised that he is the Christ?	26 ¡Y miren como habla abiertamente y nadie le dice nada! ¿Habrán reconocido las autoridades que es verdaderamente el Mesías?
27 Yet we al know where he comes from, but when the Christ appears no one wil know where he comesfrom.'	27 Pero nosotros sabemos de dónde es este; en cambio, cuando venga el Mesías, nadie sabrá de dónde es».
28 Then, as Jesus was teaching in the Temple, he cried out: You know me and you know where I camefrom. Yet I have not come of my own accord: but he who sent me is true; You do not know him,	28 Entonces Jesús, que enseñaba en el Templo, exclamó: «¿Así que ustedes me conocen y saben de dónde soy? Sin embargo, yo no vine por mi propia cuenta; pero el que me envió dice la verdad, y ustedes no lo conocen.
29 but I know him because I have my being from him and it was he who sent me.	29 Yo sí lo conozco, porque vengo de él y es él el que me envió».
30 They wanted to arrest him then, but because his hour had not yet come no one laid a hand on him.	30 Entonces quisieron detenerlo, pero nadie puso las manos sobre él, porque todavía no había llegado su hora.
31 There were many people in the crowds, however, who believed in him; they were saying, 'When theChrist comes, wil he give more signs than this man has?'	31 Muchos de la multitud creyeron en él y decían: «Cuando venga el Mesías, ¿podrá hacer más signos de los que hace este hombre?».
32 Hearing that talk like this about him was spreading among the people, the Pharisees sent the Templeguards to arrest him.	32 Llegó a oídos de los fariseos lo que la gente comentaba de él, y enviaron guardias para detenerlo.
33 Then Jesus said: For a short time I am with you stil ; then I shal go back to the one who sent me.	33 Después Jesús dijo: «Poco tiempo estaré aún con ustedes y me iré a aquel que me envió
34 You will look for me and wil not find me; where I am you cannot come.	34 Me buscarán y no me encontrarán, porque allí donde yo estoy ustedes no pueden venir».
35 So the Jews said to one another, 'Where is he intending to go that we shal not be able to find him? Ishe intending to go abroad to the people who are dispersed among the Greeks and to teach the Greeks?	35 Los judíos comentaban entre ellos: «¿A dónde irá, para que no podamos encontrarlo? ¿Acaso irá a reunirse con los judíos dispersos entre los paganos, para enseñar a los paganos?
36 'Why do you want to kil me?' What does he mean when he says: "You will look for me and wil not findme; where I am, you cannot come?" '	36 ¿Qué quiso decir con estas palabras: «Me buscarán y no me encontrarán, y allí donde yo estoy ustedes no pueden venir»?.
37 On the last day, the great day of the festival, Jesus stood and cried out: 'Let anyone who is thirstycome to me!	37 El último día, el más solemne de la fiesta, Jesús, poniéndose de pie, exclamó: «El que tenga sed, venga a mí; y beba
38 Let anyone who believes in me come and drink! As scripture says, "From his heart shal flow streamsof living water." '	38 el que cree en mí». Como dice la Escritura: "De su seno brotarán manantiales de agua viva".
39 He was speaking of the Spirit which those who believed in him were to receive; for there was no Spiritas yet because Jesus had not yet been glorified.	39 El se refería al Espíritu que debían recibir los que creyeran en él. Porque el Espíritu no había sido dado todavía, ya que Jesús aún no había sido glorificado.
40 Some of the crowd who had been listening said, 'He is indeed the prophet,'	40 Algunos de la multitud que lo habían oído, opinaban: «Este es verdaderamente el Profeta».
41 and some said, 'He is the Christ,' but others said, 'Would the Christ come from Galilee?	41 Otros decían: «Este es el Mesías». Pero otros preguntaban: «¿Acaso el Mesías vendrá de Galilea?
42 Does not scripture say that the Christ must be descended from David and come from Bethlehem, thevil age where David was?'	42 ¿No dice la Escritura que el Mesías vendrá del linaje de David y de Belén, el pueblo de donde era David?».
43 So the people could not agree about him.	43 Y por causa de él, se produjo una división entre la gente.
44 Some wanted to arrest him, but no one actual y laid a hand on him.	44 Algunos querían detenerlo, pero nadie puso las manos sobre él.
45 The guards went back to the chief priests and Pharisees who said to them, 'Why haven't you broughthim?'	45 Los guardias fueron a ver a los sumos sacerdotes y a los fariseos, y estos les preguntaron: «¿Por qué no lo trajeron?».
46 The guards replied, 'No one has ever spoken like this man.'	46 Ellos respondieron: «Nadie habló jamás como este hombre».
47 'So,' the Pharisees answered, 'you, too, have been led astray?	47 Los fariseos respondieron: «¿También ustedes se dejaron engañar?
48 Have any of the authorities come to believe in him? Any of the Pharisees?	48 ¿Acaso alguno de los jefes o de los fariseos ha creído en él?
49 This rabble knows nothing about the Law -- they are damned.'	49 En cambio, esa gente que no conoce la Ley está maldita».
50 One of them, Nicodemus -- the same man who had come to Jesus earlier -- said to them,	50 Nicodemo, uno de ellos, que había ido a ver a Jesús, les dijo:
51 'But surely our Law does not al ow us to pass judgement on anyone without first giving him a hearingand discovering what he is doing?'	51 «¿Acaso nuestra Ley permite juzgar a un hombre sin escucharlo antes para saber lo que hizo?».
52 To this they answered, 'Are you a Galilean too? Go into the matter, and see for yourself: prophets donot arise in Galilee.'	52 Le respondieron: «¿Tú también eres galileo? Examina las Escrituras y verás que de Galilea no surge ningún profeta».
53 They al went home,	53 Y cada uno regresó a su casa.
