John 6

NEW JERUSALEM	SAGRADA BIBLIA
1 After this, Jesus crossed the Sea of Galilee -- or of Tiberias-	1 Depois disso, atravessou Jesus o lago da Galiléia {que é o de Tiberíades.}
2 and a large crowd followed him, impressed by the signs he had done in curing the sick.	2 Seguia-o uma grande multidão, porque via os milagres que fazia em beneficio dos enfermos.
3 Jesus climbed the hillside and sat down there with his disciples.	3 Jesus subiu a um monte e ali se sentou com seus discípulos.
4 The time of the Jewish Passover was near.	4 Aproximava-se a Páscoa, festa dos judeus.
5 Looking up, Jesus saw the crowds approaching and said to Philip, 'Where can we buy some bread forthese people to eat?'	5 Jesus levantou os olhos sobre aquela grande multidão que vinha ter com ele e disse a Filipe: Onde compraremos pão para que todos estes tenham o que comer?
6 He said this only to put Philip to the test; he himself knew exactly what he was going to do.	6 Falava assim para o experimentar, pois bem sabia o que havia de fazer.
7 Philip answered, 'Two hundred denari would not buy enough to give them a little piece each.'	7 Filipe respondeu-lhe: Duzentos denários de pão não lhes bastam, para que cada um receba um pedaço.
8 One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, said,	8 Um dos seus discípulos, chamado André, irmão de Simão Pedro, disse-lhe:
9 'Here is a small boy with five barley loaves and two fish; but what is that among so many?'	9 Está aqui um menino que tem cinco pães de cevada e dois peixes... mas que é isto para tanta gente?
10 Jesus said to them, 'Make the people sit down.' There was plenty of grass there, and as many as fivethousand men sat down.	10 Disse Jesus: Fazei-os assentar. Ora, havia naquele lugar muita relva. Sentaram-se aqueles homens em número de uns cinco mil.
11 Then Jesus took the loaves, gave thanks, and distributed them to those who were sitting there; he thendid the same with the fish, distributing as much as they wanted.	11 Jesus tomou os pães e rendeu graças. Em seguida, distribuiu-os às pessoas que estavam sentadas, e igualmente dos peixes lhes deu quanto queriam.
12 When they had eaten enough he said to the disciples, 'Pick up the pieces left over, so that nothing iswasted.'	12 Estando eles saciados, disse aos discípulos: Recolhei os pedaços que sobraram, para que nada se perca.
13 So they picked them up and fil ed twelve large baskets with scraps left over from the meal of fivebarley loaves.	13 Eles os recolheram e, dos pedaços dos cinco pães de cevada que sobraram, encheram doze cestos.
14 Seeing the sign that he had done, the people said, 'This is indeed the prophet who is to come into theworld.'	14 À vista desse milagre de Jesus, aquela gente dizia: Este é verdadeiramente o profeta que há de vir ao mundo.
15 Jesus, as he realised they were about to come and take him by force and make him king, fled back tothe hil s alone.	15 Jesus, percebendo que queriam arrebatá-lo e fazê-lo rei, tornou a retirar-se sozinho para o monte.
16 That evening the disciples went down to the shore of the sea	16 Chegada a tarde, os seus discípulos desceram à margem do lago.
17 and got into a boat to make for Capernaum on the other side of the sea. It was getting dark by nowand Jesus had stil not rejoined them.	17 Subindo a uma barca, atravessaram o lago rumo a Cafarnaum. Era já escuro, e Jesus ainda não se tinha reunido a eles.
18 The wind was strong, and the sea was getting rough.	18 O mar, entretanto, se agitava, porque soprava um vento rijo.
19 They had rowed three or four miles when they saw Jesus walking on the sea and coming towards theboat. They were afraid,	19 Tendo eles remado uns vinte e cinco ou trinta estádios, viram Jesus que se aproximava da barca, andando sobre as águas, e ficaram atemorizados.
20 but he said, 'It's me. Don't be afraid.'	20 Mas ele lhes disse: Sou eu, não temais.
21 They were ready to take him into the boat, and immediately it reached the shore at the place they weremaking for.	21 Quiseram recebê-lo na barca, mas pouco depois a barca chegou ao seu destino.
22 Next day, the crowd that had stayed on the other side saw that only one boat had been there, and thatJesus had not got into the boat with his disciples, but that the disciples had set off by themselves.	22 No dia seguinte, a multidão que tinha ficado do outro lado do mar percebeu que Jesus não tinha subido com seus discípulos na única barca que lá estava, mas que eles tinham partido sozinhos.
23 Other boats, however, had put in from Tiberias, near the place where the bread had been eaten.	23 Nesse meio tempo, outras barcas chegaram de Tiberíades, perto do lugar onde tinham comido o pão, depois de o Senhor ter dado graças.
24 When the people saw that neither Jesus nor his disciples were there, they got into those boats andcrossed to Capernaum to look for Jesus.	24 E, reparando a multidão que nem Jesus nem os seus discípulos estavam ali, entrou nas barcas e foi até Cafarnaum à sua procura.
25 When they found him on the other side, they said to him, 'Rabbi, when did you come here?'	25 Encontrando-o na outra margem do lago, perguntaram-lhe: Mestre, quando chegaste aqui?
26 Jesus answered: In al truth I tel you, you are looking for me not because you have seen the signs butbecause you had al the bread you wanted to eat.	26 Respondeu-lhes Jesus: Em verdade, em verdade vos digo: buscais-me, não porque vistes os milagres, mas porque comestes dos pães e ficastes fartos.
27 Do not work for food that goes bad, but work for food that endures for eternal life, which the Son ofman wil give you, for on him the Father, God himself, has set his seal.	27 Trabalhai, não pela comida que perece, mas pela que dura até a vida eterna, que o Filho do Homem vos dará. Pois nele Deus Pai imprimiu o seu sinal.
28 Then they said to him, 'What must we do if we are to carry out God's work?'	28 Perguntaram-lhe: Que faremos para praticar as obras de Deus?
29 Jesus gave them this answer, 'This is carrying out God's work: you must believe in the one he hassent.'	29 Respondeu-lhes Jesus: A obra de Deus é esta: que creiais naquele que ele enviou.
30 So they said, 'What sign wil you yourself do, the sight of which wil make us believe in you? What workwil you do?	30 Perguntaram eles: Que milagre fazes tu, para que o vejamos e creiamos em ti? Qual é a tua obra?
31 Our fathers ate manna in the desert; as scripture says: He gave them bread from heaven to eat.'	31 Nossos pais comeram o maná no deserto, segundo o que está escrito: Deu-lhes de comer o pão vindo do céu {Sl 77,24}.
32 Jesus answered them: In al truth I tel you, it was not Moses who gave you the bread from heaven, itis my Father who gives you the bread from heaven, the true bread;	32 Jesus respondeu-lhes: Em verdade, em verdade vos digo: Moisés não vos deu o pão do céu, mas o meu Pai é quem vos dá o verdadeiro pão do céu;
33 for the bread of God is the bread which comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.	33 porque o pão de Deus é o pão que desce do céu e dá vida ao mundo.
34 'Sir,' they said, 'give us that bread always.'	34 Disseram-lhe: Senhor, dá-nos sempre deste pão!
35 Jesus answered them: I am the bread of life. No one who comes to me wil ever hunger; no one whobelieves in me wil ever thirst.	35 Jesus replicou: Eu sou o pão da vida: aquele que vem a mim não terá fome, e aquele que crê em mim jamais terá sede.
36 But, as I have told you, you can see me and stil you do not believe.	36 Mas já vos disse: Vós me vedes e não credes...
37 Everyone whom the Father gives me will come to me; I will certainly not reject anyone who comes tome,	37 Todo aquele que o Pai me dá virá a mim, e o que vem a mim não o lançarei fora.
38 because I have come from heaven, not to do my own wil , but to do the wil of him who sent me.	38 Pois desci do céu não para fazer a minha vontade, mas a vontade daquele que me enviou.
39 Now the wil of him who sent me is that I should lose nothing of al that he has given to me, but that Ishould raise it up on the last day.	39 Ora, esta é a vontade daquele que me enviou: que eu não deixe perecer nenhum daqueles que me deu, mas que os ressuscite no último dia.
40 It is my Father's wil that whoever sees the Son and believes in him should have eternal life, and that Ishould raise that person up on the last day.	40 Esta é a vontade de meu Pai: que todo aquele que vê o Filho e nele crê, tenha a vida eterna; e eu o ressuscitarei no último dia.
41 Meanwhile the Jews were complaining to each other about him, because he had said, 'I am the breadthat has come down from heaven.'	41 Murmuravam então dele os judeus, porque dissera: Eu sou o pão que desceu do céu.
42 They were saying, 'Surely this is Jesus son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know. How can henow say, "I have come down from heaven?" '	42 E perguntavam: Porventura não é ele Jesus, o filho de José, cujo pai e mãe conhecemos? Como, pois, diz ele: Desci do céu?
43 Jesus said in reply to them, 'Stop complaining to each other.	43 Respondeu-lhes Jesus: Não murmureis entre vós.
44 'No one can come to me unless drawn by the Father who sent me, and I wil raise that person up onthe last day.	44 Ninguém pode vir a mim se o Pai, que me enviou, não o atrair; e eu hei de ressuscitá-lo no último dia.
45 It is written in the prophets: They wil al be taught by God; everyone who has listened to the Father,and learnt from him, comes to me.	45 Está escrito nos profetas: Todos serão ensinados por Deus {Is 54,13}. Assim, todo aquele que ouviu o Pai e foi por ele instruído vem a mim.
46 Not that anybody has seen the Father, except him who has his being from God: he has seen theFather.	46 Não que alguém tenha visto o Pai, pois só aquele que vem de Deus, esse é que viu o Pai.
47 In al truth I tel you, everyone who believes has eternal life.	47 Em verdade, em verdade vos digo: quem crê em mim tem a vida eterna.
48 I am the bread of life.	48 Eu sou o pão da vida.
49 Your fathers ate manna in the desert and they are dead;	49 Vossos pais, no deserto, comeram o maná e morreram.
50 but this is the bread which comes down from heaven, so that a person may eat it and not die.	50 Este é o pão que desceu do céu, para que não morra todo aquele que dele comer.
51 I am the living bread which has come down from heaven. Anyone who eats this bread will live for ever;and the bread that I shal give is my flesh, for the life of the world.'	51 Eu sou o pão vivo que desceu do céu. Quem comer deste pão viverá eternamente. E o pão, que eu hei de dar, é a minha carne para a salvação do mundo.
52 Then the Jews started arguing among themselves, 'How can this man give us his flesh to eat?'	52 A essas palavras, os judeus começaram a discutir, dizendo: Como pode este homem dar-nos de comer a sua carne?
53 Jesus replied to them: In al truth I tell you, if you do not eat the flesh of the Son of man and drink hisblood, you have no life in you.	53 Então Jesus lhes disse: Em verdade, em verdade vos digo: se não comerdes a carne do Filho do Homem, e não beberdes o seu sangue, não tereis a vida em vós mesmos.
54 Anyone who does eat my flesh and drink my blood has eternal life, and I shal raise that person up onthe last day.	54 Quem come a minha carne e bebe o meu sangue tem a vida eterna; e eu o ressuscitarei no último dia.
55 For my flesh is real food and my blood is real drink.	55 Pois a minha carne é verdadeiramente uma comida e o meu sangue, verdadeiramente uma bebida.
56 Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood lives in me and I live in that person.	56 Quem come a minha carne e bebe o meu sangue permanece em mim e eu nele.
57 As the living Father sent me and I draw life from the Father, so whoever eats me wil also draw lifefrom me.	57 Assim como o Pai que me enviou vive, e eu vivo pelo Pai, assim também aquele que comer a minha carne viverá por mim.
58 This is the bread which has come down from heaven; it is not like the bread our ancestors ate: theyare dead, but anyone who eats this bread wil live for ever.	58 Este é o pão que desceu do céu. Não como o maná que vossos pais comeram e morreram. Quem come deste pão viverá eternamente.
59 This is what he taught at Capernaum in the synagogue.	59 Tal foi o ensinamento de Jesus na sinagoga de Cafarnaum.
60 After hearing it, many of his fol owers said, 'This is intolerable language. How could anyone accept it?'	60 Muitos dos seus discípulos, ouvindo-o, disseram: Isto é muito duro! Quem o pode admitir?
61 Jesus was aware that his fol owers were complaining about it and said, 'Does this disturb you?	61 Sabendo Jesus que os discípulos murmuravam por isso, perguntou-lhes: Isso vos escandaliza?
62 What if you should see the Son of man ascend to where he was before?	62 Que será, quando virdes subir o Filho do Homem para onde ele estava antes?...
63 'It is the spirit that gives life, the flesh has nothing to offer. The words I have spoken to you are spiritand they are life.	63 O espírito é que vivifica, a carne de nada serve. As palavras que vos tenho dito são espírito e vida.
64 'But there are some of you who do not believe.' For Jesus knew from the outset who did not believeand who was to betray him.	64 Mas há alguns entre vós que não crêem... Pois desde o princípio Jesus sabia quais eram os que não criam e quem o havia de trair.
65 He went on, 'This is why I told you that no one could come to me except by the gift of the Father.'	65 Ele prosseguiu: Por isso vos disse: Ninguém pode vir a mim, se por meu Pai não lho for concedido.
66 After this, many of his disciples went away and accompanied him no more.	66 Desde então, muitos dos seus discípulos se retiraram e já não andavam com ele.
67 Then Jesus said to the Twelve, 'What about you, do you want to go away too?'	67 Então Jesus perguntou aos Doze: Quereis vós também retirar-vos?
68 Simon Peter answered, 'Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the message of eternal life,	68 Respondeu-lhe Simão Pedro: Senhor, a quem iríamos nós? Tu tens as palavras da vida eterna.
69 and we believe; we have come to know that you are the Holy One of God.'	69 E nós cremos e sabemos que tu és o Santo de Deus!
70 Jesus replied to them, 'Did I not choose the Twelve of you? Yet one of you is a devil.'	70 Jesus acrescentou: Não vos escolhi eu todos os doze? Contudo, um de vós é um demônio!...
71 He meant Judas son of Simon Iscariot, since this was the man, one of the Twelve, who was to betrayhim.	71 Ele se referia a Judas, filho de Simão Iscariotes, porque era quem o havia de entregar não obstante ser um dos Doze.
