John 13

NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 Before the festival of the Passover, Jesus, knowing that his hour had come to pass from this world tothe Father, having loved those who were his in the world, loved them to the end.	1 Antes de la fiesta de Pascua, sabiendo Jesús que había llegado la hora de pasar de este mundo al Padre, él, que había amado a los suyos que quedaban en el mundo, los amó hasta el fin.
2 They were at supper, and the devil had already put it into the mind of Judas Iscariot son of Simon, tobetray him.	2 Durante la Cena, cuando el demonio ya había inspirado a Judas Iscariote, hijo de Simón, el propósito de entregarlo,
3 Jesus knew that the Father had put everything into his hands, and that he had come from God andwas returning to God,	3 sabiendo Jesús que el Padre había puesto todo en sus manos y que él había venido de Dios y volvía a Dios,
4 and he got up from table, removed his outer garments and, taking a towel, wrapped it round his waist;	4 se levantó de la mesa, se sacó el manto y tomando una toalla se la ató a la cintura.
5 he then poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples' feet and to wipe them with thetowel he was wearing.	5 Luego echó agua en un recipiente y empezó a lavar los pies a los discípulos y a secárselos con la toalla que tenía en la cintura.
6 He came to Simon Peter, who said to him, 'Lord, are you going to wash my feet?'	6 Cuando se acercó a Simón Pedro, este le dijo: «¿Tú, Señor, me vas a lavar los pies a mí?».
7 Jesus answered, 'At the moment you do not know what I am doing, but later you wil understand.'	7 Jesús le respondió: «No puedes comprender ahora lo que estoy haciendo, pero después lo comprenderás».
8 'Never!' said Peter. 'You shal never wash my feet.' Jesus replied, 'If I do not wash you, you can haveno share with me.' Simon Peter said,	8 «No, le dijo Pedro, ¡tú jamás me lavarás los pies a mí!». Jesús le respondió: «Si yo no te lavo, no podrás compartir mi suerte».
9 'Well then, Lord, not only my feet, but my hands and my head as wel !'	9 «Entonces, Señor, le dijo Simón Pedro, ¡no sólo los pies, sino también las manos y la cabeza!».
10 Jesus said, 'No one who has had a bath needs washing, such a person is clean all over. You too areclean, though not all of you are.'	10 Jesús le dijo: «El que se ha bañado no necesita lavarse más que los pies, porque está completamente limpio. Ustedes también están limpios, aunque no todos».
11 He knew who was going to betray him, and that was why he said, 'though not al of you are'.	11 El sabía quién lo iba a entregar, y por eso había dicho: «No todos ustedes están limpios».
12 When he had washed their feet and put on his outer garments again he went back to the table. 'Doyou understand', he said, 'what I have done to you?	12 Después de haberles lavado los pies, se puso el manto, volvió a la mesa y les dijo: «¿comprenden lo que acabo de hacer con ustedes?
13 You cal me Master and Lord, and rightly; so I am.	13 Ustedes me llaman Maestro y Señor, y tienen razón, porque lo soy.
14 If I, then, the Lord and Master, have washed your feet, you must wash each other's feet.	14 Si yo, que soy el Señor y el Maestro, les he lavado los pies, ustedes también deben lavarse los pies unos a otros.
15 I have given you an example so that you may copy what I have done to you.	15 Les he dado el ejemplo, para que hagan lo mismo que yo hice con ustedes.
16 'In al truth I tell you, no servant is greater than his master, no messenger is greater than the one whosent him.	16 Les aseguro que el servidor no es más grande que su señor, ni el enviado más grande que el que lo envía.
17 'Now that you know this, blessed are you if you behave accordingly.	17 Ustedes serán felices si, sabiendo estas cosas, las practican.
18 I am not speaking about al of you: I know the ones I have chosen; but what scripture says must befulfil ed: 'He who shares my table takes advantage of me.	18 No lo digo por todos ustedes; yo conozco a los que he elegido. Pero es necesario que se cumpla la Escritura que dice: El que comparte mi pan se volvió contra mí.
19 I tel you this now, before it happens, so that when it does happen you may believe that I am He.	19 Les digo esto desde ahora, antes que suceda, para que cuando suceda, crean que Yo Soy.
20 In all truth I tell you, whoever welcomes the one I send, welcomes me, and whoever welcomes me,welcomes the one who sent me.'	20 Les aseguro que el que reciba al que yo envíe, me recibe a mí, y el que me recibe, recibe al que me envió».
21 Having said this, Jesus was deeply disturbed and declared, 'In al truth I tel you, one of you is goingto betray me.'	21 Después de decir esto, Jesús se estremeció y manifestó claramente: «Les aseguro que uno de ustedes me entregará:.
22 The disciples looked at each other, wondering whom he meant.	22 Los discípulos se miraban unos a otros, no sabiendo a quién se refería.
23 The disciple Jesus loved was reclining next to Jesus;	23 Uno de ellos –el discípulo al que Jesús amaba– estaba reclinado muy cerca de Jesús.
24 Simon Peter signed to him and said, 'Ask who it is he means,'	24 Simón Pedro le hizo una seña y le dijo: «Pregúntale a quién se refiere».
25 so leaning back close to Jesus' chest he said, 'Who is it, Lord?'	25 El se reclinó sobre Jesús y le preguntó: «Señor, ¿quién es?».
26 Jesus answered, 'It is the one to whom I give the piece of bread that I dip in the dish.' And when hehad dipped the piece of bread he gave it to Judas son of Simon Iscariot.	26 Jesús le respondió: «Es aquel al que daré el bocado que voy a mojar en el plato». Y mojando un bocado, se lo dio a Judas, hijo de Simón Iscariote.
27 At that instant, after Judas had taken the bread, Satan entered him. Jesus then said, 'What you aregoing to do, do quickly.'	27 En cuanto recibió el bocado, Satanás entró en él. Jesús le dijo entonces: «Realiza pronto lo que tienes que hacer».
28 None of the others at table understood why he said this.	28 Pero ninguno de los comensales comprendió por qué le decía esto.
29 Since Judas had charge of the common fund, some of them thought Jesus was telling him, 'Buy whatwe need for the festival,' or tel ing him to give something to the poor.	29 Como Judas estaba encargado de la bolsa común, algunos pensaban que Jesús quería decirle: «Compra lo que hace falta para la fiesta», o bien que le mandaba dar algo a los pobres.
30 As soon as Judas had taken the piece of bread he went out. It was night.	30 Y en seguida, después de recibir el bocado, Judas salió. Ya era de noche.
31 When he had gone, Jesus said: Now has the Son of man been glorified, and in him God has beenglorified.	31 Después que Judas salió, Jesús dijo: «Ahora el Hijo del hombre ha sido glorificado y Dios ha sido glorificado en él.
32 If God has been glorified in him, God wil in turn glorify him in himself, and wil glorify him very soon.	32 Si Dios ha sido glorificado en él, también lo glorificará en sí mismo, y lo hará muy pronto.
33 Little children, I shal be with you only a little longer. You will look for me, and, as I told the Jews,where I am going, you cannot come.	33 Hijos míos, ya no estaré mucho tiempo con ustedes. Ustedes me buscarán, pero yo les digo ahora lo mismo que dije a los judíos: «A donde yo voy, ustedes no pueden venir».
34 I give you a new commandment: love one another; you must love one another just as I have lovedyou.	34 Les doy un mandamiento nuevo: ámense los unos a los otros. Así como yo los he amado, ámense también ustedes los unos a los otros.
35 It is by your love for one another, that everyone wil recognise you as my disciples.	35 En esto todos reconocerán que ustedes son mis discípulos: en el amor que se tengan los unos a los otros».
36 Simon Peter said, 'Lord, where are you going?' Jesus replied, 'Now you cannot fol ow me where I amgoing, but later you shall fol ow me.'	36 Simón Pedro le dijo: «Señor, ¿a dónde vas?». Jesús le respondió: «Adonde yo voy, tú no puedes seguirme ahora, pero más adelante me seguirás».
37 Peter said to him, 'Why can I not fol ow you now? I will lay down my life for you.'	37 Pedro le preguntó: «¿Por qué no puedo seguirte ahora? Yo daré mi vida por ti».
38 'Lay down your life for me?' answered Jesus. 'In al truth I tel you, before the cock crows you wilhave disowned me three times.'	38 Jesús le respondió: «¿Darás tu vida por mí? Te aseguro que no cantará el gallo antes que me hayas negado tres veces».
