John 13

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBLIA
1 Before the festival of the Passover, Jesus, knowing that his hour had come to pass from this world tothe Father, having loved those who were his in the world, loved them to the end.	1 Antes de la fiesta de la Pascua, sabiendo Jesús que había llegado su hora de pasar de este mundo al Padre, habiendo amado a los suyos que estaban en el mundo, los amó hasta el extremo.
2 They were at supper, and the devil had already put it into the mind of Judas Iscariot son of Simon, tobetray him.	2 Durante la cena, cuando ya el diablo había puesto en el corazón a Judas Iscariote, hijo de Simón, el propósito de entregarle,
3 Jesus knew that the Father had put everything into his hands, and that he had come from God andwas returning to God,	3 sabiendo que el Padre le había puesto todo en sus manos y que había salido de Dios y a Dios volvía,
4 and he got up from table, removed his outer garments and, taking a towel, wrapped it round his waist;	4 se levanta de la mesa, se quita sus vestidos y, tomando una toalla, se la ciñó.
5 he then poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples' feet and to wipe them with thetowel he was wearing.	5 Luego echa agua en un lebrillo y se puso a lavar los pies de los discípulos y a secárselos con la toalla con que estaba ceñido.
6 He came to Simon Peter, who said to him, 'Lord, are you going to wash my feet?'	6 Llega a Simón Pedro; éste le dice: «Señor, ¿tú lavarme a mí los pies?»
7 Jesus answered, 'At the moment you do not know what I am doing, but later you wil understand.'	7 Jesús le respondió: «Lo que yo hago, tú no lo entiendes ahora: lo comprenderás más tarde».
8 'Never!' said Peter. 'You shal never wash my feet.' Jesus replied, 'If I do not wash you, you can haveno share with me.' Simon Peter said,	8 Le dice Pedro: «No me lavarás los pies jamás». Jesús le respondió: «Si no te lavo, no tienes parte conmigo».
9 'Well then, Lord, not only my feet, but my hands and my head as wel !'	9 Le dice Simón Pedro: «Señor, no sólo los pies, sino hasta las manos y la cabeza».
10 Jesus said, 'No one who has had a bath needs washing, such a person is clean all over. You too areclean, though not all of you are.'	10 Jesús le dice: «El que se ha bañado, no necesita lavarse; está del todo limpio. Y vosotros estáis limpios, aunque no todos».
11 He knew who was going to betray him, and that was why he said, 'though not al of you are'.	11 Sabía quién le iba a entregar, y por eso dijo: «No estáis limpios todos».
12 When he had washed their feet and put on his outer garments again he went back to the table. 'Doyou understand', he said, 'what I have done to you?	12 Después que les lavó los pies, tomó sus vestidos, volvió a la mesa, y les dijo: «¿Comprendéis lo que he hecho con vosotros?
13 You cal me Master and Lord, and rightly; so I am.	13 Vosotros me llamáis “el Maestro” y “el Señor”, y decís bien, porque lo soy.
14 If I, then, the Lord and Master, have washed your feet, you must wash each other's feet.	14 Pues si yo, el Señor y el Maestro, os he lavado los pies, vosotros también debéis lavaros los pies unos a otros.
15 I have given you an example so that you may copy what I have done to you.	15 Porque os he dado ejemplo, para que también vosotros hagáis como yo he hecho con vosotros.
16 'In al truth I tell you, no servant is greater than his master, no messenger is greater than the one whosent him.	16 «En verdad, en verdad os digo: no es más el siervo que su amo, ni el enviado más que el que le envía.
17 'Now that you know this, blessed are you if you behave accordingly.	17 «Sabiendo esto, dichosos seréis si lo cumplís.
18 I am not speaking about al of you: I know the ones I have chosen; but what scripture says must befulfil ed: 'He who shares my table takes advantage of me.	18 No me refiero a todos vosotros; yo conozco a los que he elegido; pero tiene que cumplirse la Escritura: El que come mi pan ha alzado contra mí su talón.
19 I tel you this now, before it happens, so that when it does happen you may believe that I am He.	19 «Os lo digo desde ahora, antes de que suceda, para que, cuando suceda, creáis que Yo Soy.
20 In all truth I tell you, whoever welcomes the one I send, welcomes me, and whoever welcomes me,welcomes the one who sent me.'	20 En verdad, en verdad os digo: quien acoja al que yo envíe me acoge a mí, y quien me acoja a mí, acoge a Aquel que me ha enviado».
21 Having said this, Jesus was deeply disturbed and declared, 'In al truth I tel you, one of you is goingto betray me.'	21 Cuando dijo estas palabras, Jesús se turbó en su interior y declaró: «En verdad, en verdad os digo que uno de vosotros me entregará».
22 The disciples looked at each other, wondering whom he meant.	22 Los discípulos se miraban unos a otros, sin saber de quién hablaba.
23 The disciple Jesus loved was reclining next to Jesus;	23 Uno de sus discípulos, el que Jesús amaba, estaba a la mesa al lado de Jesús.
24 Simon Peter signed to him and said, 'Ask who it is he means,'	24 Simón Pedro le hace una seña y le dice: «Pregúntale de quién está hablando».
25 so leaning back close to Jesus' chest he said, 'Who is it, Lord?'	25 El, recostándose sobre el pecho de Jesús, le dice: «Señor, ¿quién es?»
26 Jesus answered, 'It is the one to whom I give the piece of bread that I dip in the dish.' And when hehad dipped the piece of bread he gave it to Judas son of Simon Iscariot.	26 Le responde Jesús: «Es aquel a quien dé el bocado que voy a mojar». Y, mojando el bocado, le toma y se lo da a Judas, hijo de Simón Iscariote.
27 At that instant, after Judas had taken the bread, Satan entered him. Jesus then said, 'What you aregoing to do, do quickly.'	27 Y entonces, tras el bocado, entró en él Satanás. Jesús le dice: «Lo que vas a hacer, hazlo pronto».
28 None of the others at table understood why he said this.	28 Pero ninguno de los comensales entendió por qué se lo decía.
29 Since Judas had charge of the common fund, some of them thought Jesus was telling him, 'Buy whatwe need for the festival,' or tel ing him to give something to the poor.	29 Como Judas tenía la bolsa, algunos pensaban que Jesús quería decirle: «Compra lo que nos hace falta para la fiesta», o que diera algo a los pobres.
30 As soon as Judas had taken the piece of bread he went out. It was night.	30 En cuanto tomó Judas el bocado, salió. Era de noche.
31 When he had gone, Jesus said: Now has the Son of man been glorified, and in him God has beenglorified.	31 Cuando salió, dice Jesús: «Ahora ha sido glorificado el Hijo del hombre y Dios ha sido glorificado en él.
32 If God has been glorified in him, God wil in turn glorify him in himself, and wil glorify him very soon.	32 Si Dios ha sido glorificado en él, Dios también le glorificará en sí mismo y le glorificará pronto».
33 Little children, I shal be with you only a little longer. You will look for me, and, as I told the Jews,where I am going, you cannot come.	33 «Hijos míos, ya poco tiempo voy a estar con vosotros. Vosotros me buscaréis, y, lo mismo que les dije a los judíos, que adonde yo voy, vosotros no podéis venir, os digo también ahora a vosotros.
34 I give you a new commandment: love one another; you must love one another just as I have lovedyou.	34 Os doy un mandamiento nuevo: que os améis los unos a los otros. Que, como yo os he amado, así os améis también vosotros los unos a los otros.
35 It is by your love for one another, that everyone wil recognise you as my disciples.	35 En esto conocerán todos que sois discípulos míos: si os tenéis amor los unos a los otros».
36 Simon Peter said, 'Lord, where are you going?' Jesus replied, 'Now you cannot fol ow me where I amgoing, but later you shall fol ow me.'	36 Simón Pedro le dice: «Señor, ¿a dónde vas?» Jesús le respondió: «Adonde yo voy no puedes seguirme ahora; me seguirás más tarde».
37 Peter said to him, 'Why can I not fol ow you now? I will lay down my life for you.'	37 Pedro le dice: «¿Por qué no puedo seguirte ahora? Yo daré mi vida por ti».
38 'Lay down your life for me?' answered Jesus. 'In al truth I tel you, before the cock crows you wilhave disowned me three times.'	38 Le responde Jesús: «¿Que darás tu vida por mí? En verdad, en verdad te digo: no cantará el gallo antes que tú me hayas negado tres veces».
