New Jerusalem Bible La Biblia
Now it happened that after this he made his way through towns and villages preaching and proclaimingthe good news of the kingdom of God. With him went the Twelve,1 Después de esto iba él caminando de ciudad en ciudad y de pueblo en pueblo, proclamando y anunciando la Buena Noticia del reino de Dios, acompañado por los Doce,
as wel as certain women who had been cured of evil spirits and ailments: Mary surnamed theMagdalene, from whom seven demons had gone out,2 y por algunas mujeres, que habían sido curadas de espíritus malos y de enfermedades: María la Magdalena, de la que habían salido siete demonios;
Joanna the wife of Herod's steward Chuza, Susanna, and many others who provided for them out oftheir own resources.3 Juana, mujer de Cusa, un administrador de Herodes; Susana y otras muchas que les servían con sus bienes.
With a large crowd gathering and people from every town finding their way to him, he told this parable:4 Habiéndose reunido una gran muchedumbre y gente que salía de toda la ciudad, dijo en parábola:
'A sower went out to sow his seed. Now as he sowed, some fel on the edge of the path and wastrampled on; and the birds of the air ate it up.5 «Salió el sembrador a sembrar su semilla.
Some seed fell on rock, and when it came up it withered away, having no moisture.6 Otra parte cayó en terreno pedregoso, y, después de brotar, se secó por falta de humedad.
Some seed fell in the middle of thorns and the thorns grew with it and choked it.7 Otra parte cayó entre abrojos, y los abrojos, creciendo al mismo tiempo, la ahogaron.
And some seed fell into good soil and grew and produced its crop a hundredfold.' Saying this he cried,'Anyone who has ears for listening should listen!'8 Y otra parte cayó en tierra buena, y, después de brotar, dio fruto al ciento por uno».
His disciples asked him what this parable might mean,9 Entonces le preguntaron los discípulos qué significaba esa parábola.
and he said, 'To you is granted to understand the secrets of the kingdom of God; for the rest it remainsin parables, so that they may look but not perceive, listen but not understand.10 Él dijo: «A vosotros se os ha otorgado conocer los misterios del reino de Dios; pero a los demás, en parábolas, para que viendo no vean y oyendo no entiendan.
'This, then, is what the parable means: the seed is the word of God.11 El sentido de la parábola es este: la semilla es la palabra de Dios.
Those on the edge of the path are people who have heard it, and then the devil comes and carriesaway the word from their hearts in case they should believe and be saved.12 Los del borde del camino son los que escuchan, pero luego viene el diablo y se lleva la palabra de sus corazones, para que no crean y se salven.
Those on the rock are people who, when they first hear it, welcome the word with joy. But these haveno root; they believe for a while, and in time of trial they give up.13 Los del terreno pedregoso son los que, al oír, reciben la palabra con alegría, pero no tienen raíz; son los que por algún tiempo creen, pero en el momento de la prueba fallan.
As for the part that fell into thorns, this is people who have heard, but as they go on their way they arechoked by the worries and riches and pleasures of life and never produce any crops.14 Lo que cayó entre abrojos son los que han oído, pero, dejándose llevar por los afanes, riquezas y placeres de la vida, se quedan sofocados y no llegan a dar fruto maduro.
As for the part in the rich soil, this is people with a noble and generous heart who have heard the wordand take it to themselves and yield a harvest through their perseverance.15 Lo de la tierra buena son los que escuchan la palabra con un corazón noble y generoso, la guardan y dan fruto con perseverancia.
'No one lights a lamp to cover it with a bowl or to put it under a bed. No, it is put on a lamp-stand sothat people may see the light when they come in.16 Nadie que ha encendido una lámpara, la tapa con una vasija o la mete debajo de la cama, sino que la pone en el candelero para que los que entren vean la luz.
For nothing is hidden but it will be made clear, nothing secret but it will be made known and brought tolight.17 Pues nada hay oculto que no llegue a descubrirse ni nada secreto que no llegue a saberse y hacerse público.
So take care how you listen; anyone who has, wil be given more; anyone who has not, wil bedeprived even of what he thinks he has.'18 Mirad, pues, cómo oís, pues al que tiene se le dará y al que no tiene se le quitará hasta lo que cree tener».
His mother and his brothers came looking for him, but they could not get to him because of the crowd.19 Vinieron a él su madre y sus hermanos, pero con el gentío no lograban llegar hasta él.
He was told, 'Your mother and brothers are standing outside and want to see you.'20 Entonces le avisaron: «Tu madre y tus hermanos están fuera y quieren verte».
But he said in answer, 'My mother and my brothers are those who hear the word of God and put it intopractice.'21 Él respondió diciéndoles: «Mi madre y mis hermanos son estos: los que escuchan la palabra de Dios y la cumplen».
It happened that one day he got into a boat with his disciples and said to them, 'Let us cross over tothe other side of the lake.' So they set out,22 Un día subió él a una barca junto con sus discípulos y les dijo: «Vamos a cruzar a la otra orilla del lago»; y se hicieron a la mar.
and as they sailed he fel asleep. When a squall of wind came down on the lake the boat startedshipping water and they found themselves in danger.23 Mientras iban navegando, se quedó dormido.
So they went to rouse him saying, 'Master! Master! We are lost!' Then he woke up and rebuked thewind and the rough water; and they subsided and it was calm again.24 Entonces se acercan a él y le despiertan diciendo: «Maestro, Maestro, ¡que perecemos!».
He said to them, 'Where is your faith?' They were awestruck and astounded and said to one another,'Who can this be, that gives orders even to winds and waves and they obey him?'25 Y les dijo: «¿Dónde está vuestra fe?».
They came to land in the territory of the Gerasenes, which is opposite Galilee.26 Y arribaron a la región de los gerasenos, que está frente a Galilea.
He was stepping ashore when a man from the city who was possessed by devils came towards him;for a long time the man had been living with no clothes on, not in a house, but in the tombs.27 Al saltar a tierra, le salió al encuentro desde la ciudad un hombre poseído de demonios, que durante mucho tiempo no vestía ropa alguna ni moraba en casa, sino en los sepulcros.
Catching sight of Jesus he gave a shout, fel at his feet and cried out at the top of his voice, 'What doyou want with me, Jesus, son of the Most High God? I implore you, do not torture me.'28 Pero, al ver a Jesús, se puso a gritar, se postró ante él y le dijo a voces: «¿Qué hay entre tú y yo, Jesús, hijo del Dios altísimo? Te ruego que no me atormentes».
For Jesus had been tel ing the unclean spirit to come out of the man. It had seized on him a greatmany times, and then they used to secure him with chains and fetters to restrain him, but he would always breakthe fastenings, and the devil would drive him out into the wilds.29 Porque él estaba mandando al espíritu inmundo que saliera del hombre.
Jesus asked him, 'What is your name?' He said, 'Legion' -- because many devils had gone into him.30 Jesús, por su parte, le preguntó: «¿Cuál es tu nombre?».
And these begged him not to order them to depart into the Abyss.31 Y le rogaban que no les mandase irse al abismo.
Now there was a large herd of pigs feeding there on the mountain, and the devils begged him to letthem go into these. So he gave them leave.32 Como había allí una piara numerosa de cerdos, paciendo en el monte, le pidieron que les permitiese entrar dentro de ellos y se lo permitió.
The devils came out of the man and went into the pigs, and the herd charged down the cliff into thelake and was drowned.33 Entonces, saliendo los demonios del hombre, entraron en los cerdos y la piara se lanzó, despeñadero abajo, al lago y se ahogó.
When the swineherds saw what had happened they ran off and told their story in the city and in thecountry round about;34 Al ver los porqueros lo sucedido, huyeron y lo contaron por la ciudad y por los cortijos.
and the people went out to see what had happened. When they came to Jesus they found the manfrom whom the devils had gone out sitting at the feet of Jesus, wearing clothes and in his right mind; and theywere afraid.35 Vinieron, pues, a ver lo sucedido.
Those who had witnessed it told them how the man who had been possessed came to be saved.36 Entonces, los que lo habían visto les contaron cómo había sido curado el endemoniado.
The entire population of the Gerasene territory was in great fear and asked Jesus to leave them. So hegot into the boat and went back.37 Y le rogó toda la gente de la comarca de los gerasenos que se marchase de entre ellos, porque estaban llenos de miedo. Él, pues, subió a la barca y regresó.
The man from whom the devils had gone out asked to be al owed to stay with him, but he sent himaway saying,38 El hombre de quien habían salido los demonios le pedía quedarse con él, pero lo despidió diciendo:
'Go back home and report al that God has done for you.' So the man went off and proclaimedthroughout the city al that Jesus had done for him.39 «Vuelve a tu casa y da a conocer cuanto te ha hecho Dios».
On his return Jesus was welcomed by the crowd, for they were al there waiting for him.40 Al regresar Jesús, la gente lo acogió bien, pues todos lo estaban esperando.
And suddenly there came a man named Jairus, who was president of the synagogue. He fel at Jesus'feet and pleaded with him to come to his house,41 Llegó entonces un hombre, llamado Jairo, que era jefe de la sinagoga, y echándose a los pies de Jesús le rogaba que entrase en su casa,
because he had an only daughter about twelve years old, who was dying. And the crowds were almoststifling Jesus as he went.42 pues tenía una hija única, de unos doce años, que se estaba muriendo.
She came up behind him and touched the fringe of his cloak; and the haemorrhage stopped at thatvery moment.44 acercándose por detrás, tocó el borde de su manto y, al instante, cesó el flujo de sangre.
Jesus said, 'Who was it that touched me?' When they al denied it, Peter said, 'Master, it is the crowdsround you, pushing.'45 Y dijo Jesús: «¿Quién es el que me ha tocado?».
But Jesus said, 'Somebody touched me. I felt that power had gone out from me.'46 Pero Jesús dijo: «Alguien me ha tocado, pues he sentido que una fuerza ha salido de mí».
Seeing herself discovered, the woman came forward trembling, and fal ing at his feet explained in frontof al the people why she had touched him and how she had been cured at that very moment.47 Viendo la mujer que no había podido pasar inadvertida, se acercó temblorosa y, postrándose a sus pies, contó ante todo el pueblo la causa por la que le había tocado y cómo había sido curada al instante.
'My daughter,' he said, 'your faith has saved you; go in peace.'48 Pero Jesús le dijo: «Hija, tu fe te ha salvado. Vete en paz».
While he was stil speaking, someone arrived from the house of the president of the synagogue to say,'Your daughter has died. Do not trouble the Master any further.'49 Estaba todavía hablando, cuando llega uno de casa del jefe de la sinagoga diciendo: «Tu hija ha muerto, no molestes más al Maestro».
But Jesus heard this, and he spoke to the man, 'Do not be afraid, only have faith and she wil besaved.'50 Pero Jesús, oído esto, le respondió: «No temas, basta que creas y se salvará».
When he came to the house he al owed no one to go in with him except Peter and John and James, and the child's father and mother.51 Al llegar a la casa, no dejó entrar con él más que a Pedro, Santiago y Juan y al padre de la niña y la madre.
They were all crying and mourning for her, but Jesus said, 'Stop crying; she is not dead, but asleep.'52 Todos lloraban y hacían duelo por ella, pero él dijo: «No lloréis, porque no ha muerto, sino que está dormida».
But they ridiculed him, knowing she was dead.53 Y se reían de él, sabiendo que había muerto.
But taking her by the hand himself he spoke to her, 'Child, get up.'54 Pero él, tomándola de la mano, dijo en voz alta: «Niña, levántate».
And her spirit returned and she got up at that very moment. Then he told them to give her something toeat.55 Y retornó su espíritu y se levantó al instante. Y ordenó que le dieran de comer.
Her parents were astonished, but he ordered them not to tel anyone what had happened.56 Sus padres quedaron atónitos, pero Jesús les ordenó que no dijeran a nadie lo sucedido.
