Luke 8

NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 Now it happened that after this he made his way through towns and villages preaching and proclaimingthe good news of the kingdom of God. With him went the Twelve,	1 Después, Jesús recorría las ciudades y los pueblos, predicando y anunciando la Buena Noticia del Reino de Dios. Lo acompañaban los Doce
2 as wel as certain women who had been cured of evil spirits and ailments: Mary surnamed theMagdalene, from whom seven demons had gone out,	2 y también algunas mujeres que habían sido curadas de malos espíritus y enfermedades: María, llamada Magdalena, de la que habían salido siete demonios;
3 Joanna the wife of Herod's steward Chuza, Susanna, and many others who provided for them out oftheir own resources.	3 Juana, esposa de Cusa, intendente de Herodes, Susana y muchas otras, que los ayudaban con sus bienes.
4 With a large crowd gathering and people from every town finding their way to him, he told this parable:	4 Como se reunía una gran multitud y acudía a Jesús gente de todas las ciudades, él les dijo, valiéndose de una parábola:
5 'A sower went out to sow his seed. Now as he sowed, some fel on the edge of the path and wastrampled on; and the birds of the air ate it up.	5 «El sembrador salió a sembrar su semilla. Al sembrar, una parte de la semilla cayó al borde del camino, donde fue pisoteada y se la comieron los pájaros del cielo.
6 Some seed fell on rock, and when it came up it withered away, having no moisture.	6 Otra parte cayó sobre las piedras y, al brotar, se secó por falta de humedad.
7 Some seed fell in the middle of thorns and the thorns grew with it and choked it.	7 Otra cayó entre las espinas, y estas, brotando al mismo tiempo, la ahogaron.
8 And some seed fell into good soil and grew and produced its crop a hundredfold.' Saying this he cried,'Anyone who has ears for listening should listen!'	8 Otra parte cayó en tierra fértil, brotó y produjo fruto al ciento por uno». Y una vez que dijo esto, exclamó: «¡El que tenga oídos para oír, que oiga!».
9 His disciples asked him what this parable might mean,	9 Sus discípulos le preguntaron qué significaba esta parábola,
10 and he said, 'To you is granted to understand the secrets of the kingdom of God; for the rest it remainsin parables, so that they may look but not perceive, listen but not understand.	10 y Jesús les dijo: «A ustedes se les ha concedido conocer los misterios del Reino de Dios; a los demás, en cambio, se les habla en parábolas, para que miren sin ver y oigan sin comprender.
11 'This, then, is what the parable means: the seed is the word of God.	11 La parábola quiere decir esto: La semilla es la Palabra de Dios.
12 Those on the edge of the path are people who have heard it, and then the devil comes and carriesaway the word from their hearts in case they should believe and be saved.	12 Los que están al borde del camino son los que escuchan, pero luego viene el demonio y arrebata la Palabra de sus corazones, para que no crean y se salven.
13 Those on the rock are people who, when they first hear it, welcome the word with joy. But these haveno root; they believe for a while, and in time of trial they give up.	13 Los que están sobre las piedras son los que reciben la Palabra con alegría, apenas la oyen; pero no tienen raíces: creen por un tiempo, y en el momento de la tentación se vuelven atrás.
14 As for the part that fell into thorns, this is people who have heard, but as they go on their way they arechoked by the worries and riches and pleasures of life and never produce any crops.	14 Lo que cayó entre espinas son los que escuchan, pero con las preocupaciones, las riquezas y los placeres de la vida, se van dejando ahogar poco a poco, y no llegan a madurar.
15 As for the part in the rich soil, this is people with a noble and generous heart who have heard the wordand take it to themselves and yield a harvest through their perseverance.	15 Lo que cayó en tierra fértil son los que escuchan la Palabra con un corazón bien dispuesto, la retienen, y dan fruto gracias a sus constancia.
16 'No one lights a lamp to cover it with a bowl or to put it under a bed. No, it is put on a lamp-stand sothat people may see the light when they come in.	16 No se enciende una lámpara para cubrirla con un recipiente o para ponerla debajo de la cama, sino que se la coloca sobre un candelero, para que los que entren vean la luz.
17 For nothing is hidden but it will be made clear, nothing secret but it will be made known and brought tolight.	17 Porque no hay nada oculto que no se descubra algún día, ni nada secreto que no deba ser conocido y divulgado.
18 So take care how you listen; anyone who has, wil be given more; anyone who has not, wil bedeprived even of what he thinks he has.'	18 Presten atención y oigan bien, porque al que tiene, se le dará, pero al que no tiene, se le quitará hasta lo que cree tener».
19 His mother and his brothers came looking for him, but they could not get to him because of the crowd.	19 Su madre y sus hermanos fueron a verlo, pero no pudieron acercarse a causa de la multitud.
20 He was told, 'Your mother and brothers are standing outside and want to see you.'	20 Entonces le anunciaron a Jesús: «Tu madre y tus hermanos están ahí afuera y quieren verte».
21 But he said in answer, 'My mother and my brothers are those who hear the word of God and put it intopractice.'	21 Pero él les respondió: «Mi madre y mis hermanos son los que escuchan la Palabra de Dios y la practican».
22 It happened that one day he got into a boat with his disciples and said to them, 'Let us cross over tothe other side of the lake.' So they set out,	22 Un día, Jesús subió con sus discípulos a una barca y les dijo: «Pasemos a la otra orilla del lago». Ellos partieron,
23 and as they sailed he fel asleep. When a squall of wind came down on the lake the boat startedshipping water and they found themselves in danger.	23 y mientras navegaban, Jesús se durmió. Entonces se desencadenó sobre el lago un fuerte vendaval; la barca se iba llenando de agua, y ellos corrían peligro.
24 So they went to rouse him saying, 'Master! Master! We are lost!' Then he woke up and rebuked thewind and the rough water; and they subsided and it was calm again.	24 Los discípulos se acercaron y lo despertaron, diciendo: «¡Maestro, Maestro, nos hundimos!». El se despertó e increpó al viento y a las olas; estas se apaciguaron y sobrevino la calma.
25 He said to them, 'Where is your faith?' They were awestruck and astounded and said to one another,'Who can this be, that gives orders even to winds and waves and they obey him?'	25 Después les dijo: «¿Dónde está la fe de ustedes?». Y ellos, llenos de temor y admiración, se decían unos a otros: «¿Quién es este que ordena incluso al viento y a las olas, y le obedecen?».
26 They came to land in the territory of the Gerasenes, which is opposite Galilee.	26 Después llegaron a la región de los gerasenos, que está situada frente a Galilea.
27 He was stepping ashore when a man from the city who was possessed by devils came towards him;for a long time the man had been living with no clothes on, not in a house, but in the tombs.	27 Jesús acababa de desembarcar, cuando salió a su encuentro un hombre de la ciudad, que estaba endemoniado. Desde hacía mucho tiempo no se vestía, y no vivía en una casa, sino en los sepulcros.
28 Catching sight of Jesus he gave a shout, fel at his feet and cried out at the top of his voice, 'What doyou want with me, Jesus, son of the Most High God? I implore you, do not torture me.'	28 Al ver a Jesús, comenzó a gritar, cayó a sus pies y dijo con voz potente: «¿Qué quieres de mí, Jesús, Hijo de Dios, el Altísimo? Te ruego que no me atormentes».
29 For Jesus had been tel ing the unclean spirit to come out of the man. It had seized on him a greatmany times, and then they used to secure him with chains and fetters to restrain him, but he would always breakthe fastenings, and the devil would drive him out into the wilds.	29 Jesús, en efecto, estaba ordenando al espíritu impuro que saliera de aquel hombre. Muchas veces el espíritu se había apoderado de él, y aunque lo ataban con cadenas y grillos para sujetarlo, él rompía sus ligaduras y el demonio lo arrastraba a lugares desiertos.
30 Jesus asked him, 'What is your name?' He said, 'Legion' -- because many devils had gone into him.	30 Jesús le preguntó: «¿Cuál es tu nombre?». «Legión», respondió, porque eran muchos los demonios que habían entrado en él.,
31 And these begged him not to order them to depart into the Abyss.	31 Y le suplicaban que no les ordenara precipitarse al abismo.
32 Now there was a large herd of pigs feeding there on the mountain, and the devils begged him to letthem go into these. So he gave them leave.	32 Había allí una gran piara de cerdos que estaba paciendo en la montaña. Los demonios suplicaron a Jesús que les permitiera entrar en los cerdos. El se lo permitió.
33 The devils came out of the man and went into the pigs, and the herd charged down the cliff into thelake and was drowned.	33 Entonces salieron de aquel hombre, entraron en los cerdos, y desde lo alto del acantilado, la piara se precipitó al mar y se ahogó.
34 When the swineherds saw what had happened they ran off and told their story in the city and in thecountry round about;	34 Al ver lo que había pasado, los cuidadores huyeron y difundieron la noticia en la ciudad y en los poblados.
35 and the people went out to see what had happened. When they came to Jesus they found the manfrom whom the devils had gone out sitting at the feet of Jesus, wearing clothes and in his right mind; and theywere afraid.	35 En seguida la gente fue a ver lo que había sucedido. Cuando llegaron adonde estaba Jesús, vieron sentado a sus pies, vestido y en sus sano juicio, al hombre del que habían salido los demonios, y se llenaron de temor.
36 Those who had witnessed it told them how the man who had been possessed came to be saved.	36 Los que habían presenciado el hecho les contaron cómo había sido curado el endemoniado.
37 The entire population of the Gerasene territory was in great fear and asked Jesus to leave them. So hegot into the boat and went back.	37 Todos los gerasenos pidieron a Jesús que se alejará de allí, porque estaban atemorizados; y él, subiendo a la barca, regresó.
38 The man from whom the devils had gone out asked to be al owed to stay with him, but he sent himaway saying,	38 El hombre del que salieron los demonios le rogaba que lo llevara con él, pero Jesús lo despidió, diciéndole:
39 'Go back home and report al that God has done for you.' So the man went off and proclaimedthroughout the city al that Jesus had done for him.	39 «Vuelve a tu casa y cuenta todo lo que Dios has hecho por ti». El se fue y proclamó en toda la ciudad lo que Jesús había hecho por él.
40 On his return Jesus was welcomed by the crowd, for they were al there waiting for him.	40 A su regreso, Jesús fue recibido por la multitud, porque todos lo estaban esperando.
41 And suddenly there came a man named Jairus, who was president of the synagogue. He fel at Jesus'feet and pleaded with him to come to his house,	41 De pronto, se presentó un hombre llamado Jairo, que era jefe de la sinagoga, y cayendo a los pies de Jesús, le suplicó que fuera a su casa,
42 because he had an only daughter about twelve years old, who was dying. And the crowds were almoststifling Jesus as he went.	42 porque su única hija, que tenía unos doce años, se estaba muriendo. Mientras iba, la multitud lo apretaba hasta sofocarlo.
43 Now there was a woman suffering from a haemorrhage for the past twelve years, whom no one hadbeen able to cure.	43 Una mujer que padecía de hemorragias desde hacía doce años y a quien nadie había podido curar,
44 She came up behind him and touched the fringe of his cloak; and the haemorrhage stopped at thatvery moment.	44 se acercó por detrás y tocó los flecos de su manto; inmediatamente cesó la hemorragia.
45 Jesus said, 'Who was it that touched me?' When they al denied it, Peter said, 'Master, it is the crowdsround you, pushing.'	45 Jesús preguntó: «¿Quién me ha tocado?». Como todos lo negaban, Pedro y sus compañeros le dijeron: «Maestro, es la multitud que te está apretujando».
46 But Jesus said, 'Somebody touched me. I felt that power had gone out from me.'	46 Pero Jesús respondió: «Alguien me ha tocado, porque he sentido que una fuerza salía de mí».
47 Seeing herself discovered, the woman came forward trembling, and fal ing at his feet explained in frontof al the people why she had touched him and how she had been cured at that very moment.	47 Al verse descubierta, la mujer se acercó temblando, y echándose a sus pies, contó delante de todos por qué lo había tocado y cómo fue curada instantáneamente.
48 'My daughter,' he said, 'your faith has saved you; go in peace.'	48 Jesús le dijo entonces: «Hija, tu fe te ha salvado, vete en paz».
49 While he was stil speaking, someone arrived from the house of the president of the synagogue to say,'Your daughter has died. Do not trouble the Master any further.'	49 Todavía estaba hablando, cuando llegó alguien de la casa del jefe de sinagoga y le dijo: «Tu hija ha muerto, no molestes más al Maestro».
50 But Jesus heard this, and he spoke to the man, 'Do not be afraid, only have faith and she wil besaved.'	50 Pero Jesús, que había oído, respondió: «No temas, basta que creas y se salvará».
51 When he came to the house he al owed no one to go in with him except Peter and John and James,and the child's father and mother.	51 Cuando llegó a la casa no permitió que nadie entrara con él, sino Pedro, Juan y Santiago, junto con el padre y la madre de la niña.
52 They were all crying and mourning for her, but Jesus said, 'Stop crying; she is not dead, but asleep.'	52 Todos lloraban y se lamentaban. «No lloren, dijo Jesús, no está muerta, sino que duerme».
53 But they ridiculed him, knowing she was dead.	53 Y se burlaban de él, porque sabían que la niña estaba muerta.
54 But taking her by the hand himself he spoke to her, 'Child, get up.'	54 Pero Jesús la tomó de la mano y la llamó, diciendo: «Niña, levántate».
55 And her spirit returned and she got up at that very moment. Then he told them to give her something toeat.	55 Ella recuperó el aliento y se levantó en el acto. Después Jesús ordenó que le dieran de comer.
56 Her parents were astonished, but he ordered them not to tel anyone what had happened.	56 Sus padres se quedaron asombrados, pero él les prohibió contar lo que había sucedido.
