Mark 5

NEW JERUSALEM	KING JAMES BIBLE
1 They reached the territory of the Gerasenes on the other side of the lake,	1 And they came over unto the other side of the sea, into the country of the Gadarenes.
2 and when he disembarked, a man with an unclean spirit at once came out from the tombs towards him.	2 And when he was come out of the ship, immediately there met him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit,
3 The man lived in the tombs and no one could secure him any more, even with a chain,	3 Who had his dwelling among the tombs; and no man could bind him, no, not with chains:
4 because he had often been secured with fetters and chains but had snapped the chains and broken thefetters, and no one had the strength to control him.	4 Because that he had been often bound with fetters and chains, and the chains had been plucked asunder by him, and the fetters broken in pieces: neither could any man tame him.
5 All night and al day, among the tombs and in the mountains, he would howl and gash himself withstones.	5 And always, night and day, he was in the mountains, and in the tombs, crying, and cutting himself with stones.
6 Catching sight of Jesus from a distance, he ran up and fel at his feet	6 But when he saw Jesus afar off, he ran and worshipped him,
7 and shouted at the top of his voice, 'What do you want with me, Jesus, son of the Most High God? InGod's name do not torture me!'	7 And cried with a loud voice, and said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of the most high God? I adjure thee by God, that thou torment me not.
8 For Jesus had been saying to him, 'Come out of the man, unclean spirit.'	8 For he said unto him, Come out of the man, thou unclean spirit.
9 Then he asked, 'What is your name?' He answered, 'My name is Legion, for there are many of us.'	9 And he asked him, What is thy name? And he answered, saying, My name is Legion: for we are many.
10 And he begged him earnestly not to send them out of the district.	10 And he besought him much that he would not send them away out of the country.
11 Now on the mountainside there was a great herd of pigs feeding,	11 Now there was there nigh unto the mountains a great herd of swine feeding.
12 and the unclean spirits begged him, 'Send us to the pigs, let us go into them.'	12 And all the devils besought him, saying, Send us into the swine, that we may enter into them.
13 So he gave them leave. With that, the unclean spirits came out and went into the pigs, and the herd ofabout two thousand pigs charged down the cliff into the lake, and there they were drowned.	13 And forthwith Jesus gave them leave. And the unclean spirits went out, and entered into the swine: and the herd ran violently down a steep place into the sea, (they were about two thousand;) and were choked in the sea.
14 The men looking after them ran off and told their story in the city and in the country round about; andthe people came to see what had real y happened.	14 And they that fed the swine fled, and told it in the city, and in the country. And they went out to see what it was that was done.
15 They came to Jesus and saw the demoniac sitting there -- the man who had had the legion in him --properly dressed and in his ful senses, and they were afraid.	15 And they come to Jesus, and see him that was possessed with the devil, and had the legion, sitting, and clothed, and in his right mind: and they were afraid.
16 And those who had witnessed it reported what had happened to the demoniac and what had becomeof the pigs.	16 And they that saw it told them how it befell to him that was possessed with the devil, and also concerning the swine.
17 Then they began to implore Jesus to leave their neighbourhood.	17 And they began to pray him to depart out of their coasts.
18 As he was getting into the boat, the man who had been possessed begged to be al owed to stay withhim.	18 And when he was come into the ship, he that had been possessed with the devil prayed him that he might be with him.
19 Jesus would not let him but said to him, 'Go home to your people and tel them al that the Lord in hismercy has done for you.'	19 Howbeit Jesus suffered him not, but saith unto him, Go home to thy friends, and tell them how great things the Lord hath done for thee, and hath had compassion on thee.
20 So the man went off and proceeded to proclaim in the Decapolis al that Jesus had done for him. Andeveryone was amazed.	20 And he departed, and began to publish in Decapolis how great things Jesus had done for him: and all men did marvel.
21 When Jesus had crossed again in the boat to the other side, a large crowd gathered round him and hestayed by the lake.	21 And when Jesus was passed over again by ship unto the other side, much people gathered unto him: and he was nigh unto the sea.
22 Then the president of the synagogue came up, named Jairus, and seeing him, fel at his feet	22 And, behold, there cometh one of the rulers of the synagogue, Jairus by name; and when he saw him, he fell at his feet,
23 and begged him earnestly, saying, 'My little daughter is desperately sick. Do come and lay your handson her that she may be saved and may live.'	23 And besought him greatly, saying, My little daughter lieth at the point of death: I pray thee, come and lay thy hands on her, that she may be healed; and she shall live.
24 Jesus went with him and a large crowd followed him; they were pressing al round him.	24 And Jesus went with him; and much people followed him, and thronged him.
25 Now there was a woman who had suffered from a haemorrhage for twelve years;	25 And a certain woman, which had an issue of blood twelve years,
26 after long and painful treatment under various doctors, she had spent al she had without being anythe better for it; in fact, she was getting worse.	26 And had suffered many things of many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was nothing bettered, but rather grew worse,
27 She had heard about Jesus, and she came up through the crowd and touched his cloak from behind,thinking,	27 When she had heard of Jesus, came in the press behind, and touched his garment.
28 'If I can just touch his clothes, I shal be saved.'	28 For she said, If I may touch but his clothes, I shall be whole.
29 And at once the source of the bleeding dried up, and she felt in herself that she was cured of hercomplaint.	29 And straightway the fountain of her blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was healed of that plague.
30 And at once aware of the power that had gone out from him, Jesus turned round in the crowd andsaid, 'Who touched my clothes?'	30 And Jesus, immediately knowing in himself that virtue had gone out of him, turned him about in the press, and said, Who touched my clothes?
31 His disciples said to him, 'You see how the crowd is pressing round you; how can you ask, "Whotouched me?" '	31 And his disciples said unto him, Thou seest the multitude thronging thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me?
32 But he continued to look al round to see who had done it.	32 And he looked round about to see her that had done this thing.
33 Then the woman came forward, frightened and trembling because she knew what had happened toher, and she fel at his feet and told him the whole truth.	33 But the woman fearing and trembling, knowing what was done in her, came and fell down before him, and told him all the truth.
34 'My daughter,' he said, 'your faith has restored you to health; go in peace and be free of yourcomplaint.'	34 And he said unto her, Daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace, and be whole of thy plague.
35 While he was stil speaking some people arrived from the house of the president of the synagogue tosay, 'Your daughter is dead; why put the Master to any further trouble?'	35 While he yet spake, there came from the ruler of the synagogue's house certain which said, Thy daughter is dead: why troublest thou the Master any further?
36 But Jesus overheard what they said and he said to the president of the synagogue, 'Do not be afraid;only have faith.'	36 As soon as Jesus heard the word that was spoken, he saith unto the ruler of the synagogue, Be not afraid, only believe.
37 And he allowed no one to go with him except Peter and James and John the brother of James.	37 And he suffered no man to follow him, save Peter, and James, and John the brother of James.
38 So they came to the house of the president of the synagogue, and Jesus noticed al the commotion,with people weeping and wailing unrestrainedly.	38 And he cometh to the house of the ruler of the synagogue, and seeth the tumult, and them that wept and wailed greatly.
39 He went in and said to them, 'Why all this commotion and crying? The child is not dead, but asleep.'	39 And when he was come in, he saith unto them, Why make ye this ado, and weep? the damsel is not dead, but sleepeth.
40 But they ridiculed him. So he turned them al out and, taking with him the child's father and mother andhis own companions, he went into the place where the child lay.	40 And they laughed him to scorn. But when he had put them all out, he taketh the father and the mother of the damsel, and them that were with him, and entereth in where the damsel was lying.
41 And taking the child by the hand he said to her, 'Talitha kum!' which means, 'Little girl, I tel you to getup.'	41 And he took the damsel by the hand, and said unto her, Talitha cumi; which is, being interpreted, Damsel, I say unto thee, arise.
42 The little girl got up at once and began to walk about, for she was twelve years old. At once they wereovercome with astonishment,	42 And straightway the damsel arose, and walked; for she was of the age of twelve years. And they were astonished with a great astonishment.
43 and he gave them strict orders not to let anyone know about it, and told them to give her something toeat.	43 And he charged them straitly that no man should know it; and commanded that something should be given her to eat.
