NEW JERUSALEMGREEK BIBLE
They reached the territory of the Gerasenes on the other side of the lake,1 Και ηλθον εις το περαν της θαλασσης εις την χωραν των Γαδαρηνων.
and when he disembarked, a man with an unclean spirit at once came out from the tombs towards him.2 Και ως εξηλθεν εκ του πλοιου, ευθυς απηντησεν αυτον εκ των μνημειων ανθρωπος εχων πνευμα ακαθαρτον,
The man lived in the tombs and no one could secure him any more, even with a chain,3 οστις ειχε την κατοικιαν εν τοις μνημειοις, και ουδεις ηδυνατο να δεση αυτον ουδε με αλυσεις,
because he had often been secured with fetters and chains but had snapped the chains and broken thefetters, and no one had the strength to control him.4 διοτι πολλακις ειχε δεθη με ποδοδεσμα και με αλυσεις, και διεσπασθησαν υπ' αυτου αι αλυσεις και τα ποδοδεσμα συνετριφθησαν, και ουδεις ισχυε να δαμαση αυτον?
All night and al day, among the tombs and in the mountains, he would howl and gash himself withstones.5 και δια παντος νυκτα και ημεραν ητο εν τοις ορεσι και εν τοις μνημειοις, κραζων και κατακοπτων εαυτον με λιθους.
Catching sight of Jesus from a distance, he ran up and fel at his feet6 Ιδων δε τον Ιησουν απο μακροθεν, εδραμε και προσεκυνησεν αυτον,
and shouted at the top of his voice, 'What do you want with me, Jesus, son of the Most High God? InGod's name do not torture me!'7 και κραξας μετα φωνης μεγαλης ειπε?
For Jesus had been saying to him, 'Come out of the man, unclean spirit.'8 Διοτι ελεγε προς αυτον?
Then he asked, 'What is your name?' He answered, 'My name is Legion, for there are many of us.'9 Και ηρωτησεν αυτον?
And he begged him earnestly not to send them out of the district.10 Και παρεκαλει αυτον πολλα να μη αποστειλη αυτους εξω της χωρας.
Now on the mountainside there was a great herd of pigs feeding,11 Ητο δε εκει προς τα ορη αγελη μεγαλη χοιρων βοσκομενη.
and the unclean spirits begged him, 'Send us to the pigs, let us go into them.'12 και παρεκαλεσαν αυτον παντες οι δαιμονες, λεγοντες?
So he gave them leave. With that, the unclean spirits came out and went into the pigs, and the herd ofabout two thousand pigs charged down the cliff into the lake, and there they were drowned.13 Και ο Ιησους ευθυς επετρεψεν εις αυτους.
The men looking after them ran off and told their story in the city and in the country round about; andthe people came to see what had real y happened.14 Οι δε βοσκοντες τους χοιρους εφυγον και ανηγγειλαν εις την πολιν και εις τους αγρους?
They came to Jesus and saw the demoniac sitting there -- the man who had had the legion in him --properly dressed and in his ful senses, and they were afraid.15 Και ερχονται προς τον Ιησουν, και θεωρουσι τον δαιμονιζομενον, οστις ειχε τον λεγεωνα, καθημενον και ενδεδυμενον και σωφρονουντα, και εφοβηθησαν.
And those who had witnessed it reported what had happened to the demoniac and what had becomeof the pigs.16 Και διηγηθησαν προς αυτους οι ιδοντες πως εγεινε το πραγμα εις τον δαιμονιζομενον, και περι των χοιρων.
Then they began to implore Jesus to leave their neighbourhood.17 Και ηρχισαν να παρακαλωσιν αυτον να αναχωρηση απο των οριων αυτων.
As he was getting into the boat, the man who had been possessed begged to be al owed to stay withhim.18 Και οτε εισηλθεν εις το πλοιον, παρεκαλει αυτον ο δαιμονισθεις να ηναι μετ' αυτου.
Jesus would not let him but said to him, 'Go home to your people and tel them al that the Lord in hismercy has done for you.'19 Πλην ο Ιησους δεν αφηκεν αυτον, αλλα λεγει προς αυτον?
So the man went off and proceeded to proclaim in the Decapolis al that Jesus had done for him.
When Jesus had crossed again in the boat to the other side, a large crowd gathered round him and hestayed by the lake.21 Και αφου ο Ιησους διεπερασε παλιν εν τω πλοιω εις το περαν, συνηχθη προς αυτον οχλος πολυς, και ητο πλησιον της θαλασσης.
Then the president of the synagogue came up, named Jairus, and seeing him, fel at his feet22 Και ιδου, ερχεται εις των αρχισυναγωγων, ονοματι Ιαειρος, και ιδων αυτον πιπτει προς τους ποδας αυτου
and begged him earnestly, saying, 'My little daughter is desperately sick. Do come and lay your handson her that she may be saved and may live.'23 και παρεκαλει αυτον πολλα, λεγων οτι το θυγατριον μου πνεει τα λοισθια?
Jesus went with him and a large crowd followed him; they were pressing al round him.24 Και υπηγε μετ' αυτου?
Now there was a woman who had suffered from a haemorrhage for twelve years;25 Και γυνη τις, εχουσα ρυσιν αιματος δωδεκα ετη
after long and painful treatment under various doctors, she had spent al she had without being anythe better for it; in fact, she was getting worse.26 και πολλα παθουσα υπο πολλων ιατρων και δαπανησασα πασαν την περιουσιαν αυτης και μηδεν ωφεληθεισα, αλλα μαλλον εις το χειρον ελθουσα,
She had heard about Jesus, and she came up through the crowd and touched his cloak from behind,thinking,27 ακουσασα περι του Ιησου, ηλθε μεταξυ του οχλου οπισθεν και ηγγισε το ιματιον αυτου?
'If I can just touch his clothes, I shal be saved.'28 διοτι ελεγεν οτι και αν τα ιματια αυτου εγγισω, θελω σωθη.
And at once the source of the bleeding dried up, and she felt in herself that she was cured of hercomplaint.29 Και ευθυς εξηρανθη η πηγη του αιματος αυτης, και ησθανθη εν τω σωματι αυτης οτι ιατρευθη απο της μαστιγος.
And at once aware of the power that had gone out from him, Jesus turned round in the crowd andsaid, 'Who touched my clothes?'30 Και ευθυς ο Ιησους, νοησας εν εαυτω την δυναμιν την εξελθουσαν απ' αυτου, στραφεις εν τω οχλω ελεγε? Τις ηγγισε τα ιματια μου;
His disciples said to him, 'You see how the crowd is pressing round you; how can you ask, "Whotouched me?" '31 Και ελεγον προς αυτον οι μαθηται αυτον? Βλεπεις τον οχλον συνθλιβοντα σε, και λεγεις τις μου ηγγισε;
But he continued to look al round to see who had done it.32 Και περιεβλεπε δια να ιδη την πραξασαν τουτο.
Then the woman came forward, frightened and trembling because she knew what had happened toher, and she fel at his feet and told him the whole truth.33 Η δε γυνη, φοβηθεισα και τρεμουσα, επειδη ηξευρε τι εγεινεν επ' αυτην, ηλθε και προσεπεσεν εις αυτον και ειπε προς αυτον πασαν την αληθειαν.
'My daughter,' he said, 'your faith has restored you to health; go in peace and be free of yourcomplaint.'34 Ο δε ειπε προς αυτην? Θυγατερ, η πιστις σου σε εσωσεν? υπαγε εις ειρηνην και εσο υγιης απο της μαστιγος σου.
While he was stil speaking some people arrived from the house of the president of the synagogue tosay, 'Your daughter is dead; why put the Master to any further trouble?'35 Ενω αυτος ελαλει ετι, ερχονται απο του αρχισυναγωγου, λεγοντες οτι η θυγατηρ σου απεθανε? τι πλεον ενοχλεις τον Διδασκαλον;
But Jesus overheard what they said and he said to the president of the synagogue, 'Do not be afraid;only have faith.'36 Ο δε Ιησους, ευθυς οτε ηκουσε τον λογον λαλουμενον, λεγει προς τον αρχισυναγωγον?
And he allowed no one to go with him except Peter and James and John the brother of James.37 Και δεν αφηκεν ουδενα να ακολουθηση αυτον ειμη τον Πετρον και Ιακωβον και Ιωαννην τον αδελφον Ιακωβου.
So they came to the house of the president of the synagogue, and Jesus noticed al the commotion,with people weeping and wailing unrestrainedly.38 Και ερχεται εις τον οικον του αρχισυναγωγου και βλεπει θορυβον, κλαιοντας και αλαλαζοντας πολλα,
He went in and said to them, 'Why all this commotion and crying? The child is not dead, but asleep.'39 και εισελθων λεγει προς αυτους?
But they ridiculed him. So he turned them al out and, taking with him the child's father and mother andhis own companions, he went into the place where the child lay.40 Και κατεγελων αυτου.
And taking the child by the hand he said to her, 'Talitha kum!' which means, 'Little girl, I tel you to getup.'41 και πιασας την χειρα του παιδιου, λεγει προς αυτην?
The little girl got up at once and began to walk about, for she was twelve years old. At once they wereovercome with astonishment,42 Και ευθυς εσηκωθη το κορασιον και περιεπατει?
and he gave them strict orders not to let anyone know about it, and told them to give her something toeat.43 Και παρηγγειλεν εις αυτους πολλα να μη μαθη μηδεις τουτο και ειπε να δοθη εις αυτην να φαγη.
