NEW JERUSALEMDOUAI-RHEIMS
Another time he went into the synagogue, and there was a man present whose hand was withered.1 And he entered again into the synagogue, and there was a man there who had a withered hand.
And they were watching him to see if he would cure him on the Sabbath day, hoping for something tocharge him with.2 And they watched him whether he would heal on the sabbath days; that they might accuse him.
He said to the man with the withered hand, 'Get up and stand in the middle!'3 And he said to the man who had the withered hand: Stand up in the midst.
Then he said to them, 'Is it permitted on the Sabbath day to do good, or to do evil; to save life, or to kil ?'But they said nothing.4 And he saith to them: Is it lawful to do good on the sabbath days, or to do evil? to save life, or to destroy? But they held their peace.
Then he looked angrily round at them, grieved to find them so obstinate, and said to the man, 'Stretchout your hand.' He stretched it out and his hand was restored.5 And looking round about on them with anger, being grieved for the blindness of their hearts, he saith to the man: Stretch forth thy hand. And he stretched it forth: and his hand was restored unto him.
The Pharisees went out and began at once to plot with the Herodians against him, discussing how todestroy him.6 And the Pharisees going out, immediately made a consultation with the Herodians against him, how they might destroy him.
Jesus withdrew with his disciples to the lakeside, and great crowds from Galilee fol owed him. FromJudaea,7 But Jesus retired with his disciples to the sea; and a great multitude followed him from Galilee and Judea,
and from Jerusalem, and from Idumaea and Transjordan and the region of Tyre and Sidon, greatnumbers who had heard of al he was doing came to him.8 And from Jerusalem, and from Idumea, and from beyond the Jordan. And they about Tyre and Sidon, a great multitude, hearing the things which he did, came to him.
And he asked his disciples to have a boat ready for him because of the crowd, to keep him from beingcrushed.9 And he spoke to his disciples that a small ship should wait on him because of the multitude, lest they should throng him.
For he had cured so many that al who were afflicted in any way were crowding forward to touch him.10 For he healed many, so that they pressed upon him for to touch him, as many as had evils.
And the unclean spirits, whenever they saw him, would fal down before him and shout, 'You are theSon of God!'11 And the unclean spirits, when they saw him, fell down before him: and they cried, saying:
But he warned them strongly not to make him known.12 Thou art the Son of God. And he strictly charged them that they should not make him known.
He now went up onto the mountain and summoned those he wanted. So they came to him13 And going up into a mountain, he called unto him whom he would himself: and they came to him.
and he appointed twelve; they were to be his companions and to be sent out to proclaim the message,14 And he made that twelve should be with him, and that he might send them to preach.
with power to drive out devils.15 And he gave them power to heal sicknesses, and to cast out devils.
And so he appointed the Twelve, Simon to whom he gave the name Peter,16 And to Simon he gave the name Peter:
James the son of Zebedee and John the brother of James, to whom he gave the name Boanerges or'Sons of Thunder';17 And James the son of Zebedee, and John the brother of James; and he named them Boanerges, which is, The sons of thunder:
Andrew, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James the son of Alphaeus, Thaddaeus, Simon theZealot18 And Andrew and Philip, and Bartholomew and Matthew, and Thomas and James of Alpheus, and Thaddeus, and Simon the Cananean:
and Judas Iscariot, the man who was to betray him.19 And Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed him.
He went home again, and once more such a crowd col ected that they could not even have a meal.20 And they come to a house, and the multitude cometh together again, so that they could not so much as eat bread.
When his relations heard of this, they set out to take charge of him; they said, 'He is out of his mind.'21 And when his friends had heard of it, they went out to lay hold on him. For they said: He is become mad.
The scribes who had come down from Jerusalem were saying, 'Beelzebul is in him,' and, 'It is throughthe prince of devils that he drives devils out.'22 And the scribes who were come down from Jerusalem, said: He hath Beelzebub, and by the prince of devils he casteth out devils.
So he cal ed them to him and spoke to them in parables,23 And after he had called them together, he said to them in parables: How can Satan cast out Satan?
'How can Satan drive out Satan? If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot last.24 And if a kingdom be divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand.
And if a household is divided against itself, that household can never last.25 And if a house be divided against itself, that house cannot stand.
Now if Satan has rebel ed against himself and is divided, he cannot last either -- it is the end of him.26 And if Satan be risen up against himself, he is divided, and cannot stand, but hath an end.
But no one can make his way into a strong man's house and plunder his property unless he has firsttied up the strong man. Only then can he plunder his house.27 No man can enter into the house of a strong man and rob him of his goods, unless he first bind the strong man, and then shall he plunder his house.
'In truth I tel you, al human sins will be forgiven, and al the blasphemies ever uttered;28 Amen I say to you, that all sins shall be forgiven unto the sons of men, and the blasphemies wherewith they shall blaspheme:
but anyone who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven, but is guilty of an eternalsin.'29 But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost, shall never have forgiveness, but shall be guilty of an everlasting sin.
This was because they were saying, 'There is an unclean spirit in him.'30 Because they said: He hath an unclean spirit.
Now his mother and his brothers arrived and, standing outside, sent in a message asking for him.31 And his mother and his bretheren came; and standing without, sent unto him, calling him.
A crowd was sitting round him at the time the message was passed to him, 'Look, your mother andbrothers and sisters are outside asking for you.'32 And the multitude sat about him; and they say to him: Behold thy mother and thy brethren without seek for thee.
He replied, 'Who are my mother and my brothers?'33 And answering them, he said: Who is my mother and my brethren?
And looking at those sitting in a circle round him, he said, 'Here are my mother and my brothers.34 And looking round about on them who sat about him, he saith: Behold my mother and my brethren.
Anyone who does the wil of God, that person is my brother and sister and mother.'35 For whosoever shall do the will of God, he is my brother, and my sister, and mother.
