When the Sabbath was over, Mary of Magdala, Mary the mother of James, and Salome, bought spiceswith which to go and anoint him.1 And when the Sabbath had passed, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought aromatic spices, so that when they arrived they could anoint Jesus.
And very early in the morning on the first day of the week they went to the tomb when the sun hadrisen.2 And very early in the morning, on the first of the Sabbaths, they went to the tomb, the sun having now risen.
They had been saying to one another, 'Who wil rol away the stone for us from the entrance to thetomb?'3 And they said to one another, “Who will roll back the stone for us, away from the entrance of the tomb?”
But when they looked they saw that the stone -- which was very big -- had already been rol ed back.4 And looking, they saw that the stone was rolled back. For certainly it was very large.
On entering the tomb they saw a young man in a white robe seated on the right-hand side, and theywere struck with amazement.5 And upon entering the tomb, they saw a young man sitting on the right side, covered with a white robe, and they were astonished.
But he said to them, 'There is no need to be so amazed. You are looking for Jesus of Nazareth, whowas crucified: he has risen, he is not here. See, here is the place where they laid him.6 And he said to them, “Do not become frightened. You are seeking Jesus of Nazareth, the Crucified One. He has risen. He is not here. Behold, the place where they laid him.
But you must go and tel his disciples and Peter, "He is going ahead of you to Galilee; that is where you wil see him, just as he told you." '7 But go, tell his disciples and Peter that he is going before you into Galilee. There you shall see him, just as he told you.”
And the women came out and ran away from the tomb because they were frightened out of their wits;and they said nothing to anyone, for they were afraid.8 But they, going out, fled from the tomb. For trembling and fear had overwhelmed them. And they said nothing to anyone. For they were afraid.
Having risen in the morning on the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary of Magdala fromwhom he had cast out seven devils.9 But he, rising early on the first Sabbath, appeared first to Mary Magdalene, from whom he had cast out seven demons.
She then went to those who had been his companions, and who were mourning and in tears, andtold them.10 She went and announced it to those who had been with him, while they were mourning and weeping.
But they did not believe her when they heard her say that he was alive and that she had seen him.11 And they, upon hearing that he was alive and that he had been seen by her, did not believe it.
After this, he showed himself under another form to two of them as they were on their way into thecountry.12 But after these events, he was shown in another likeness to two of them walking, as they were going out to the countryside.
These went back and told the others, who did not believe them either.13 And they, returning, reported it to the others; neither did they believe them.
Lastly, he showed himself to the Eleven themselves while they were at table. He reproached them fortheir incredulity and obstinacy, because they had refused to believe those who had seen him after he had risen.14 Finally, he appeared to the eleven, as they sat at table. And he rebuked them for their incredulity and hardness of heart, because they did not believe those who had seen that he had risen again.
And he said to them, 'Go out to the whole world; proclaim the gospel to al creation.15 And he said to them: “Go forth to the whole world and preach the Gospel to every creature.
Whoever believes and is baptised wil be saved; whoever does not believe will be condemned.16 Whoever will have believed and been baptized will be saved. Yet truly, whoever will not have believed will be condemned.
These are the signs that will be associated with believers: in my name they wil cast out devils; theywil have the gift of tongues;17 Now these signs will accompany those who believe. In my name, they shall cast out demons. They will speak in new languages.
they wil pick up snakes in their hands and be unharmed should they drink deadly poison; they wil laytheir hands on the sick, who wil recover.'18 They will take up serpents, and, if they drink anything deadly, it will not harm them. They shall lay their hands upon the sick, and they will be well.”
And so the Lord Jesus, after he had spoken to them, was taken up into heaven; there at the righthand of God he took his place,19 And indeed, the Lord Jesus, after he had spoken to them, was taken up into heaven, and he sits at the right hand of God.
while they, going out, preached everywhere, the Lord working with them and confirming the word bythe signs that accompanied it.20 Then they, setting out, preached everywhere, with the Lord cooperating and confirming the word by the accompanying signs.
