NEW JERUSALEMNOVA VULGATA
When the Sabbath was over, Mary of Magdala, Mary the mother of James, and Salome, bought spiceswith which to go and anoint him.1 Et cum transisset sabbatum, Maria Magdalene et Maria Iacobi et Salomeemerunt aromata, ut venientes ungerent eum.
And very early in the morning on the first day of the week they went to the tomb when the sun hadrisen.2 Et valde mane, prima sabbatorum,veniunt ad monumentum, orto iam sole.
They had been saying to one another, 'Who wil rol away the stone for us from the entrance to thetomb?'3 Et dicebant ad invicem: “ Quisrevolvet nobis lapidem ab ostio monumenti? ”.
But when they looked they saw that the stone -- which was very big -- had already been rol ed back.4 Et respicientes videntrevolutum lapidem; erat quippe magnus valde.
On entering the tomb they saw a young man in a white robe seated on the right-hand side, and theywere struck with amazement.5 Et introeuntes in monumentumviderunt iuvenem sedentem in dextris, coopertum stola candida, et obstupuerunt.
But he said to them, 'There is no need to be so amazed. You are looking for Jesus of Nazareth, whowas crucified: he has risen, he is not here. See, here is the place where they laid him.6 Qui dicit illis: “ Nolite expavescere! Iesum quaeritis Nazarenum crucifixum.Surrexit, non est hic; ecce locus, ubi posuerunt eum.
But you must go and tel his disciples and Peter, "He is going ahead of you to Galilee; that is where you wil see him, just as he told you." '7 Sed ite, dicitediscipulis eius et Petro: “Praecedit vos in Galilaeam. Ibi eum videbitis,sicut dixit vobis” ”.
And the women came out and ran away from the tomb because they were frightened out of their wits;and they said nothing to anyone, for they were afraid.8 Et exeuntes fugerunt de monumento; invaserat enimeas tremor et pavor, et nemini quidquam dixerunt, timebant enim.
Having risen in the morning on the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary of Magdala fromwhom he had cast out seven devils.9 Surgens autem mane, prima sabbati, apparuit primo Mariae Magdalenae, de quaeiecerat septem daemonia.
She then went to those who had been his companions, and who were mourning and in tears, andtold them.10 Illa vadens nuntiavit his, qui cum eo fuerant,lugentibus et flentibus;
But they did not believe her when they heard her say that he was alive and that she had seen him.11 et illi audientes quia viveret et visus esset ab ea,non crediderunt.
After this, he showed himself under another form to two of them as they were on their way into thecountry.12 Post haec autem duobus ex eis ambulantibus ostensus est inalia effigie euntibus in villam;
These went back and told the others, who did not believe them either.13 et illi euntes nuntiaverunt ceteris, necillis crediderunt.
Lastly, he showed himself to the Eleven themselves while they were at table. He reproached them fortheir incredulity and obstinacy, because they had refused to believe those who had seen him after he had risen.14 Novissime recumbentibus illis Undecim apparuit, et exprobravit incredulitatemillorum et duritiam cordis, quia his, qui viderant eum resuscitatum, noncrediderant.
And he said to them, 'Go out to the whole world; proclaim the gospel to al creation.15 Et dixit eis: “ Euntes in mundum universum praedicateevangelium omni creaturae.
Whoever believes and is baptised wil be saved; whoever does not believe will be condemned.16 Qui crediderit et baptizatus fuerit, salvus erit;qui vero non crediderit, condemnabitur.
These are the signs that will be associated with believers: in my name they wil cast out devils; theywil have the gift of tongues;17 Signa autem eos, qui crediderint,haec sequentur: in nomine meo daemonia eicient, linguis loquentur novis,
they wil pick up snakes in their hands and be unharmed should they drink deadly poison; they wil laytheir hands on the sick, who wil recover.'18 serpentes tollent, et, si mortiferum quid biberint, non eos nocebit, superaegrotos manus imponent, et bene habebunt ”.
And so the Lord Jesus, after he had spoken to them, was taken up into heaven; there at the righthand of God he took his place,19 Et Dominus quidem Iesus, postquam locutus est eis, assumptus est in caelum etsedit a dextris Dei.
while they, going out, preached everywhere, the Lord working with them and confirming the word bythe signs that accompanied it.20 Illi autem profecti praedicaverunt ubique, Domino cooperante et sermonemconfirmante, sequentibus signis.
