Matthew 20

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA TINTORI
1 'Now the kingdom of Heaven is like a landowner going out at daybreak to hire workers for his vineyard.	1 E' simile il regno dei cieli ad un padrone che allo spuntar del giorno uscì a prendere ad opera dei lavoratori per la sua vigna.
2 He made an agreement with the workers for one denarius a day and sent them to his vineyard.	2 E pattuito coi lavoratori un danaro al giorno, li mandò alla sua vigna.
3 Going out at about the third hour he saw others standing idle in the market place	3 Ed uscito verso l'ora terza, vide altri stare sulla piazza sfaccendati,
4 and said to them, "You go to my vineyard too and I wil give you a fair wage."	4 e disse loro: Andate anche voi nella mia vigna e vi darò quel che sarà giusto.
5 So they went. At about the sixth hour and again at about the ninth hour, he went out and did the same.	5 E quelli andarono. Di nuovo uscì verso l'ora sesta e la nona, e fece lo stesso.
6 Then at about the eleventh hour he went out and found more men standing around, and he said tothem, "Why have you been standing here idle all day?"	6 Uscito poi verso l'undecima, trovò altri sfaccendati, e disse loro: Perchè ve ne state tutto il giorno qui senza far nulla?
7 "Because no one has hired us," they answered. He said to them, "You go into my vineyard too."	7 Gli rispondono: Perchè nessuno ci ha presi a giornata. Ed egli a loro: Andate anche voi nella mia vigna.
8 In the evening, the owner of the vineyard said to his bailiff, "Call the workers and pay them theirwages, starting with the last arrivals and ending with the first."	8 Venuta poi la sera, il padrone della vigna dice al suo fattore: Chiama i lavoratori e paga loro la mercede, cominciando dagli ultimi fino ai primi.
9 So those who were hired at about the eleventh hour came forward and received one denarius each.	9 Essendo dunque venuti quelli dell'undecima ora, ebbero un danaro per uno.
10 When the first came, they expected to get more, but they too received one denarius each.	10 Venuti poi anche i primi, pensavano di ricevere di più; ma ebbero anche essi un danaro per uno.
11 They took it, but grumbled at the landowner saying,	11 E, presolo, mormorarono contro il padrone,
12 "The men who came last have done only one hour, and you have treated them the same as us,though we have done a heavy day's work in al the heat."	12 dicendo: Quest'ultimi han fatto un'ora sola, e li hai trattati come noi che abbiamo portato il peso della giornata e il caldo.
13 He answered one of them and said, "My friend, I am not being unjust to you; did we not agree on onedenarius?	13 Ma egli, rispondendo ad uno di loro disse: Amico, io non ti fo torto: non hai pattuito con me per un danaro?
14 Take your earnings and go. I choose to pay the lastcomer as much as I pay you.	14 piglia il tuo e vattene; ma io voglio dare anche a quest'ultimo quanto a te.
15 Have I no right to do what I like with my own? Why should you be envious because I am generous?"	15 E non posso far del mio quel che voglio? E' forse maligno il tuo occhio, perchè io son buono?
16 Thus the last wil be first, and the first, last.'	16 Così gli ultimi saranno i primi, e i primi, ultimi. E molti sono i chiamati, ma pochi gli eletti.
17 Jesus was going up to Jerusalem, and on the road he took the Twelve aside by themselves and saidto them,	17 Poi Gesù stando per salire a Gerusalemme, presi in disparte i dodici discepoli, disse loro:
18 'Look, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of man is about to be handed over to the chiefpriests and scribes. They wil condemn him to death	18 Ecco, ascendiamo a Gerusalemme, e il Figlio dell'uomo sarà dato nelle mani dei principi dei sacerdoti, e degli Scribi,
19 and will hand him over to the gentiles to be mocked and scourged and crucified; and on the third dayhe wil be raised up again.'	19 e lo condanneranno a morte, e lo consegneranno ai Gentili, ad essere schernito, flagellato, crocifisso; ma il terzo giorno risorgerà.
20 Then the mother of Zebedee's sons came with her sons to make a request of him, and bowed low;	20 Allora gli s'accostò la madre dei figli di Zebedeo con i proprii figlioli, adorando e in atto di chiedere qualche cosa.
21 and he said to her, 'What is it you want?' She said to him, 'Promise that these two sons of mine maysit one at your right hand and the other at your left in your kingdom.'	21 Che vuoi? le disse: Quella rispose: Di' che seggano questi due miei figlioli, uno alla tua destra e l'altro alla tua sinistra nel tuo regno.
22 Jesus answered, 'You do not know what you are asking. Can you drink the cup that I am going todrink?' They replied, 'We can.'	22 E Gesù rispose. Non sapete quello che domandate. Potete voi bere il calice che berrò io? Gli rispondono: Lo possiamo.
23 He said to them, 'Very wel ; you shal drink my cup, but as for seats at my right hand and my left,these are not mine to grant; they belong to those to whom they have been al otted by my Father.'	23 Dice loro: Il calice mio voi certo lo berrete: sedere però alla mia destra o alla mia sinistra non sta a me conceder velo, ma è per quelli cui è stato preparato dal Padre mio.
24 When the other ten heard this they were indignant with the two brothers.	24 Udito ciò gli altri dieci si indignarono contro i due fratelli.
25 But Jesus cal ed them to him and said, 'You know that among the gentiles the rulers lord it over them,and great men make their authority felt.	25 Ma Gesù chiamatili a sè disse: Voi sapete che i principi delle nazioni le signoreggiano ed i grandi esercitano il potere sopra di esse.
26 Among you this is not to happen. No; anyone who wants to become great among you must be yourservant,	26 Ma tra di voi non sarà così; anzi chi vorrà tra di voi diventare maggiore, sia vostro ministro.
27 and anyone who wants to be first among you must be your slave,	27 E chi vorrà tra voi essere primo, sia vostro servo.
28 just as the Son of man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.'	28 Come il Figlio dell'uomo non è venuto ad essere servito, ma a servire e a dar la sua vita in redenzione di molti.
29 As they left Jericho a large crowd fol owed him.	29 E nell'uscir da Gerico, andò dietro a lui gran folla:
30 And now there were two blind men sitting at the side of the road. When they heard that it was Jesuswho was passing by, they shouted, 'Lord! Have pity on us, son of David.'	30 ed ecco due ciechi, seduti lungo la strada, sentendo che passava Gesù, si misero a gridare: Signore, Figlio di David, abbi pietà di noi.
31 And the crowd scolded them and told them to keep quiet, but they only shouted the louder, 'Lord!Have pity on us, son of David.'	31 Ma il popolo li sgridava, perchè tacessero; quelli però gridavano più forte che mai: Signore, Figlio di David, abbi pietà di noi.
32 Jesus stopped, cal ed them over and said, 'What do you want me to do for you?'	32 E Gesù, fermatosi, li chiamò e disse: Che volete che vi faccia?
33 They said to him, 'Lord, let us have our sight back.'	33 Signore, gli rispondono, che s'aprano i nostri occhi!
34 Jesus felt pity for them and touched their eyes, and at once their sight returned and they fol owedhim.	34 E Gesù, mosso a pietà, toccò loro gli occhi; e subito videro e lo seguirono.
