Matthew 20

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA RICCIOTTI
1 'Now the kingdom of Heaven is like a landowner going out at daybreak to hire workers for his vineyard.	1 - Il regno de' cieli è simile a un padre di famiglia, il quale sul far del giorno uscì ad assoldare operai per la sua vigna;
2 He made an agreement with the workers for one denarius a day and sent them to his vineyard.	2 dove li mandò dopo aver pattuito coi lavoratori un danaro al giorno.
3 Going out at about the third hour he saw others standing idle in the market place	3 Uscito verso l'ora terza ne vide altri che se ne stavan sulla piazza sfaccendati,
4 and said to them, "You go to my vineyard too and I wil give you a fair wage."	4 e disse loro: - Andate anche voi nella vigna, poi vi darò quello che sarà giusto.-
5 So they went. At about the sixth hour and again at about the ninth hour, he went out and did the same.	5 Ed essi andarono. Uscito di nuovo verso la sesta e la nona ora, fece lo stesso.
6 Then at about the eleventh hour he went out and found more men standing around, and he said tothem, "Why have you been standing here idle all day?"	6 Uscito ancora verso la undecima ne trovò altri che se ne stavano colà e chiese loro: - Ma perchè state qui tutto il giorno senza far nulla? -
7 "Because no one has hired us," they answered. He said to them, "You go into my vineyard too."	7 Essi gli risposero: - Perchè nessuno ci ha presi a giornata. - Ed egli disse loro: - Andate anche voi nella mia vigna. -
8 In the evening, the owner of the vineyard said to his bailiff, "Call the workers and pay them theirwages, starting with the last arrivals and ending with the first."	8 Venuta la sera il padrone della vigna disse al suo fattore: - Chiama gli operai e dà loro la paga, cominciando dagli ultimi fino ai primi. -
9 So those who were hired at about the eleventh hour came forward and received one denarius each.	9 Vennero quelli dell'undecima ora e ricevettero un danaro per uno.
10 When the first came, they expected to get more, but they too received one denarius each.	10 Poi vennero i primi, i quali si pensavano di ricevere di più; ma ricevettero anch'essi un danaro per uno.
11 They took it, but grumbled at the landowner saying,	11 Nel riceverlo mormoravano contro il padre di famiglia,
12 "The men who came last have done only one hour, and you have treated them the same as us,though we have done a heavy day's work in al the heat."	12 dicendo: - Questi ultimi han lavorato un'ora sola, e li hai trattati come noi, che abbiam portato il peso della giornata e del caldo. -
13 He answered one of them and said, "My friend, I am not being unjust to you; did we not agree on onedenarius?	13 Ma egli rispose a un di loro: - Amico, non ti fo torto; non hai pattuito con me per un danaro?
14 Take your earnings and go. I choose to pay the lastcomer as much as I pay you.	14 Prendi il tuo e vattene; io voglio dare a quest'ultimo come a te.
15 Have I no right to do what I like with my own? Why should you be envious because I am generous?"	15 Non posso io fare quello che voglio delle cose mie? E il tuo occhio è maligno perchè io son buono? -
16 Thus the last wil be first, and the first, last.'	16 Così gli ultimi saranno i primi e i primi gli ultimi; perchè molti sono i chiamati, ma pochi gli eletti».
17 Jesus was going up to Jerusalem, and on the road he took the Twelve aside by themselves and saidto them,	17 E salendo verso Gerusalemme, Gesù prese in disparte i dodici discepoli e strada facendo disse loro:
18 'Look, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of man is about to be handed over to the chiefpriests and scribes. They wil condemn him to death	18 «Ecco noi ascendiamo a Gerusalemme e il Figliuol dell'uomo sarà dato in mano dei principi dei Sacerdoti e degli Scribi, ed essi lo condanneranno a morte
19 and will hand him over to the gentiles to be mocked and scourged and crucified; and on the third dayhe wil be raised up again.'	19 e lo daranno in balìa dei Gentili per esser schernito, flagellato e crocifisso; e il terzo giorno risorgerà».
20 Then the mother of Zebedee's sons came with her sons to make a request of him, and bowed low;	20 Allora s'accostò a lui la madre dei figli di Zebedeo coi suoi figliuoli, e si prostrò davanti a lui come per chiedergli qualche cosa.
21 and he said to her, 'What is it you want?' She said to him, 'Promise that these two sons of mine maysit one at your right hand and the other at your left in your kingdom.'	21 Egli le domandò: «Che vuoi?». Ella rispose: «Di' che questi miei due figliuoli seggano, uno alla tua destra e l'altro alla tua sinistra nel tuo regno».
22 Jesus answered, 'You do not know what you are asking. Can you drink the cup that I am going todrink?' They replied, 'We can.'	22 Gesù soggiunse: «Non sapete quello che domandate; potete voi bere il calice che io sto per bere?». «Sì, lo possiamo», gli risposero.
23 He said to them, 'Very wel ; you shal drink my cup, but as for seats at my right hand and my left,these are not mine to grant; they belong to those to whom they have been al otted by my Father.'	23 «Voi berrete certo il mio calice», continuò [Gesù] «ma quanto al sedere alla mia destra o alla mia sinistra non tocca a me il concederlo; ma è per quelli ai quali è stato preparato dal Padre mio».
24 When the other ten heard this they were indignant with the two brothers.	24 Gli altri dieci, udito ciò, si sdegnarono contro i due fratelli.
25 But Jesus cal ed them to him and said, 'You know that among the gentiles the rulers lord it over them,and great men make their authority felt.	25 Gesù però, chiamatili a sè disse loro: «Voi sapete che i principi delle nazioni le signoreggiano e i grandi esercitano il potere sopra di esse.
26 Among you this is not to happen. No; anyone who wants to become great among you must be yourservant,	26 Ma non è così tra voi; anzi chi tra voi vorrà essere maggiore, sia il vostro servo,
27 and anyone who wants to be first among you must be your slave,	27 e chi tra voi vorrà essere il primo sia vostro servo;
28 just as the Son of man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.'	28 appunto come il Figliuol dell'uomo non è venuto per essere servito ma per servire a dare la sua vita per la redenzione di molti».
29 As they left Jericho a large crowd fol owed him.	29 Mentre uscivan da Gerico, li seguiva una grande folla.
30 And now there were two blind men sitting at the side of the road. When they heard that it was Jesuswho was passing by, they shouted, 'Lord! Have pity on us, son of David.'	30 Ed ecco due ciechi, seduti lungo la strada, udito che passava Gesù si misero a gridare: «Signore, figlio di David, abbi pietà di noi».
31 And the crowd scolded them and told them to keep quiet, but they only shouted the louder, 'Lord!Have pity on us, son of David.'	31 Ma il popolo li sgridava perchè tacessero. Essi però gridavan più forte: «Signore, figlio di David, abbi pietà di noi».
32 Jesus stopped, cal ed them over and said, 'What do you want me to do for you?'	32 Gesù si fermò e, chiamatili, domandò loro: «Che volete ch'io vi faccia?».
33 They said to him, 'Lord, let us have our sight back.'	33 Gli risposero: «Signore, che gli occhi nostri s'aprano!».
34 Jesus felt pity for them and touched their eyes, and at once their sight returned and they fol owedhim.	34 Preso da compassione, Gesù toccò i loro occhi e subito ricuperarono la vista e lo seguirono.
