Matthew 20

NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 'Now the kingdom of Heaven is like a landowner going out at daybreak to hire workers for his vineyard.	1 Infatti, il regno dei cieli è simile a un padrone di casa, il quale uscì di buon mattino ad ingaggiare operai per la sua vigna.
2 He made an agreement with the workers for one denarius a day and sent them to his vineyard.	2 Essendosi accordato con gli operai per un denaro al giorno, li mandò nella sua vigna.
3 Going out at about the third hour he saw others standing idle in the market place	3 Uscito verso l'ora terza, trovò altri che stavano nella piazza inoperosi;
4 and said to them, "You go to my vineyard too and I wil give you a fair wage."	4 disse loro: "Andate anche voi nella mia vigna e vi darò la giusta ricompensa". Essi andarono.
5 So they went. At about the sixth hour and again at about the ninth hour, he went out and did the same.	5 Di nuovo uscì verso l'ora sesta e l'ora nona e fece altrettanto.
6 Then at about the eleventh hour he went out and found more men standing around, and he said tothem, "Why have you been standing here idle all day?"	6 Uscì anche verso l'ora undecima e trovò altri che stavano là; dice loro: "Perché state qui tutto il giorno inoperosi?".
7 "Because no one has hired us," they answered. He said to them, "You go into my vineyard too."	7 Gli rispondono: "Perché nessuno ci ha ingaggiati". Dice loro: "Andate anche voi nella vigna".
8 In the evening, the owner of the vineyard said to his bailiff, "Call the workers and pay them theirwages, starting with the last arrivals and ending with the first."	8 Venuta la sera, il padrone della vigna dice al suo fattore: "Chiama gli operai e da' loro la mercede cominciando dagli ultimi fino ai primi".
9 So those who were hired at about the eleventh hour came forward and received one denarius each.	9 Vennero quelli dell'undecima ora e ricevettero un denaro ciascuno.
10 When the first came, they expected to get more, but they too received one denarius each.	10 Quando giunsero i primi, pensavano che avrebbero ricevuto di più, ma ricevettero anch'essi un denaro ciascuno.
11 They took it, but grumbled at the landowner saying,	11 Nel prenderlo mormoravano contro il padre di famiglia
12 "The men who came last have done only one hour, and you have treated them the same as us,though we have done a heavy day's work in al the heat."	12 dicendo: "Questi ultimi hanno lavorato per un'ora sola e tu li hai equiparati a noi che abbiamo sopportato il peso e il caldo della giornata".
13 He answered one of them and said, "My friend, I am not being unjust to you; did we not agree on onedenarius?	13 Egli rispose ad uno di loro: "Amico, non sono ingiusto con te: non hai fatto il patto con me per un denaro?
14 Take your earnings and go. I choose to pay the lastcomer as much as I pay you.	14 Prendi ciò che è tuo e vattene. Voglio dare a quest'ultimo proprio quanto ho dato a te;
15 Have I no right to do what I like with my own? Why should you be envious because I am generous?"	15 che forse non mi è lecito disporre dei miei beni come voglio? O non sarà il tuo occhio che si fa cattivo dal momento che io sono buono?".
16 Thus the last wil be first, and the first, last.'	16 In questa maniera gli ultimi saranno primi e i primi saranno ultimi".
17 Jesus was going up to Jerusalem, and on the road he took the Twelve aside by themselves and saidto them,	17 Mentre saliva a Gerusalemme, Gesù prese i Dodici in disparte e, cammin facendo, disse loro:
18 'Look, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of man is about to be handed over to the chiefpriests and scribes. They wil condemn him to death	18 "Ecco, saliamo a Gerusalemme e il Figlio dell'uomo sarà consegnato ai sommi sacerdoti e agli scribi che lo condanneranno a morte
19 and will hand him over to the gentiles to be mocked and scourged and crucified; and on the third dayhe wil be raised up again.'	19 e lo consegneranno ai gentili, perché sia schernito, flagellato e crocifisso; ma il terzo giorno risorgerà".
20 Then the mother of Zebedee's sons came with her sons to make a request of him, and bowed low;	20 Si avvicinò a lui la madre dei figli di Zebedeo insieme con i suoi figli e si prostrò per chiedergli qualcosa;
21 and he said to her, 'What is it you want?' She said to him, 'Promise that these two sons of mine maysit one at your right hand and the other at your left in your kingdom.'	21 egli le domandò: "Che cosa vuoi?". Ed ella a lui: "Ordina che questi due miei figli siedano uno alla destra e l'altro alla tua sinistra nel tuo regno".
22 Jesus answered, 'You do not know what you are asking. Can you drink the cup that I am going todrink?' They replied, 'We can.'	22 Gesù rispose: "Non sapete quello che chiedete; potete bere il calice che io sto per bere?". Gli rispondono: "Lo possiamo".
23 He said to them, 'Very wel ; you shal drink my cup, but as for seats at my right hand and my left,these are not mine to grant; they belong to those to whom they have been al otted by my Father.'	23 Dice loro: "Il mio calice, sì, lo berrete; ma sedere alla mia destra o alla mia sinistra non sta a me concederlo, ma è riservato a coloro ai quali è stato assegnato dal Padre mio".
24 When the other ten heard this they were indignant with the two brothers.	24 All'udir ciò gli altri dieci s'indignarono contro i due fratelli;
25 But Jesus cal ed them to him and said, 'You know that among the gentiles the rulers lord it over them,and great men make their authority felt.	25 Gesù, chiamatili a sé, disse: "Voi sapete che i capi delle nazioni esercitano la loro signoria su di esse, e i grandi sono quelli che fanno sentire su di esse la loro potenza.
26 Among you this is not to happen. No; anyone who wants to become great among you must be yourservant,	26 Non sarà così fra voi; ma chi fra voi vuol diventare grande sarà vostro servo,
27 and anyone who wants to be first among you must be your slave,	27 e chi fra voi vorrà essere al primo posto si farà vostro schiavo,
28 just as the Son of man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.'	28 come il Figlio dell'uomo che non è venuto ad essere servito, ma a servire e dare la propria vita in riscatto di molti".
29 As they left Jericho a large crowd fol owed him.	29 Mentre essi uscivano da Gerico, gli andò dietro molta gente.
30 And now there were two blind men sitting at the side of the road. When they heard that it was Jesuswho was passing by, they shouted, 'Lord! Have pity on us, son of David.'	30 Ed ecco, due ciechi stavano seduti lungo la via; saputo che passava Gesù, si misero a gridare: "Signore, abbi pietà di noi, Figlio di Davide!".
31 And the crowd scolded them and told them to keep quiet, but they only shouted the louder, 'Lord!Have pity on us, son of David.'	31 La folla cominciò a sgridarli perché tacessero; ma essi gridavano ancora più forte: "Signore, abbi pietà di noi, Figlio di Davide!".
32 Jesus stopped, cal ed them over and said, 'What do you want me to do for you?'	32 Gesù, fermatosi, li chiamò e disse: "Cosa volete che io vi faccia?".
33 They said to him, 'Lord, let us have our sight back.'	33 Gli risposero: "Signore, che si aprano i nostri occhi!".
34 Jesus felt pity for them and touched their eyes, and at once their sight returned and they fol owedhim.	34 Mosso a pietà, Gesù toccò i loro occhi e subito ricuperarono la vista e si misero a seguirlo.
