Matthew 20

NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 'Now the kingdom of Heaven is like a landowner going out at daybreak to hire workers for his vineyard.	1 Porque el Reino de los Cielos se parece a un propietario que salió muy de madrugada a contratar obreros para trabajar en su viña.
2 He made an agreement with the workers for one denarius a day and sent them to his vineyard.	2 Trató con ellos un denario por día y los envío a su viña.
3 Going out at about the third hour he saw others standing idle in the market place	3 Volvió a salir a media mañana y, al ver a otros desocupados en la plaza,
4 and said to them, "You go to my vineyard too and I wil give you a fair wage."	4 les dijo: "Vayan ustedes también a mi viña y les pagaré lo que sea justo".
5 So they went. At about the sixth hour and again at about the ninth hour, he went out and did the same.	5 Y ellos fueron. Volvió a salir al mediodía y a media tarde, e hizo lo mismo.
6 Then at about the eleventh hour he went out and found more men standing around, and he said tothem, "Why have you been standing here idle all day?"	6 Al caer la tarde salió de nuevo y, encontrando todavía a otros, les dijo: "¿Cómo se han quedado todo el día aquí, sin hacer nada?".
7 "Because no one has hired us," they answered. He said to them, "You go into my vineyard too."	7 Ellos les respondieron: "Nadie nos ha contratado". Entonces les dijo: "Vayan también ustedes a mi viña".
8 In the evening, the owner of the vineyard said to his bailiff, "Call the workers and pay them theirwages, starting with the last arrivals and ending with the first."	8 Al terminar el día, el propietario llamó a su mayordomo y le dijo: "Llama a los obreros y págales el jornal, comenzando por los últimos y terminando por los primeros".
9 So those who were hired at about the eleventh hour came forward and received one denarius each.	9 Fueron entonces los que habían llegado al caer la tarde y recibieron cada uno un denario.
10 When the first came, they expected to get more, but they too received one denarius each.	10 Llegaron después los primeros, creyendo que iban a recibir algo más, pero recibieron igualmente un denario.
11 They took it, but grumbled at the landowner saying,	11 Y al recibirlo, protestaban contra el propietario,
12 "The men who came last have done only one hour, and you have treated them the same as us,though we have done a heavy day's work in al the heat."	12 diciendo: "Estos últimos trabajaron nada más que una hora, y tú les das lo mismo que a nosotros, que hemos soportado el peso del trabajo y el calor durante toda la jornada".
13 He answered one of them and said, "My friend, I am not being unjust to you; did we not agree on onedenarius?	13 El propietario respondió a uno de ellos: "Amigo, no soy injusto contigo, ¿acaso no habíamos tratado en un denario?
14 Take your earnings and go. I choose to pay the lastcomer as much as I pay you.	14 Toma lo que es tuyo y vete. Quiero dar a este que llega último lo mismo que a ti.
15 Have I no right to do what I like with my own? Why should you be envious because I am generous?"	15 ¿No tengo derecho a disponer de mis bienes como me parece? ¿Por qué tomas a mal que yo sea bueno?".
16 Thus the last wil be first, and the first, last.'	16 Así, los últimos serán los primeros y los primeros serán los últimos».
17 Jesus was going up to Jerusalem, and on the road he took the Twelve aside by themselves and saidto them,	17 Cuando Jesús se dispuso a subir a Jerusalén, llevó consigo sólo a los Doce, y en el camino les dijo:
18 'Look, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of man is about to be handed over to the chiefpriests and scribes. They wil condemn him to death	18 «Ahora subimos a Jerusalén, donde el Hijo del hombre va a ser entregado a los sumos sacerdotes y a los escribas. Ellos lo condenarán a muerte
19 and will hand him over to the gentiles to be mocked and scourged and crucified; and on the third dayhe wil be raised up again.'	19 y lo entregarán a los paganos para que sea maltratado, azotado y crucificado, pero al tercer día resucitará».
20 Then the mother of Zebedee's sons came with her sons to make a request of him, and bowed low;	20 Entonces la madre de los hijos de Zebedeo se acercó a Jesús, junto con sus hijos, y se postró ante él para pedirle algo.
21 and he said to her, 'What is it you want?' She said to him, 'Promise that these two sons of mine maysit one at your right hand and the other at your left in your kingdom.'	21 «¿Qué quieres?», le preguntó Jesús. Ella le dijo: «Manda que mis dos hijos se sienten en tu Reino, uno a tu derecha y el otro a tu izquierda».
22 Jesus answered, 'You do not know what you are asking. Can you drink the cup that I am going todrink?' They replied, 'We can.'	22 «No saben lo que piden», respondió Jesús. «¿Pueden beber el cáliz que yo beberé?». «Podemos», le respondieron.
23 He said to them, 'Very wel ; you shal drink my cup, but as for seats at my right hand and my left,these are not mine to grant; they belong to those to whom they have been al otted by my Father.'	23 «Está bien, les dijo Jesús, ustedes beberán mi cáliz. En cuanto a sentarse a mi derecha o a mi izquierda, no me toca a mí concederlo, sino que esos puestos son para quienes se los ha destinado mi Padre».
24 When the other ten heard this they were indignant with the two brothers.	24 Al oír esto, los otros diez se indignaron contra los dos hermanos.
25 But Jesus cal ed them to him and said, 'You know that among the gentiles the rulers lord it over them,and great men make their authority felt.	25 Pero Jesús los llamó y les dijo: «Ustedes saben que los jefes de las naciones dominan sobre ellas y los poderosos les hacen sentir su autoridad.
26 Among you this is not to happen. No; anyone who wants to become great among you must be yourservant,	26 Entre ustedes no debe suceder así. Al contrario, el que quiera ser grande, que se haga servidor de ustedes;
27 and anyone who wants to be first among you must be your slave,	27 y el que quiera ser el primero que se haga su esclavo:
28 just as the Son of man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.'	28 como el Hijo del hombre, que no vino para ser servido, sino para servir y dar su vida en rescate por una multitud».
29 As they left Jericho a large crowd fol owed him.	29 Cuando salieron de Jericó, mucha gente siguió a Jesús.
30 And now there were two blind men sitting at the side of the road. When they heard that it was Jesuswho was passing by, they shouted, 'Lord! Have pity on us, son of David.'	30 Había dos ciegos sentados al borde del camino y, al enterarse de que pasaba Jesús, comenzaron a gritar: «¡Señor, Hijo de David, ten piedad de nosotros!».
31 And the crowd scolded them and told them to keep quiet, but they only shouted the louder, 'Lord!Have pity on us, son of David.'	31 La multitud los reprendía para que se callaran, pero ellos gritaban más: «¡Señor, Hijo de David, ten piedad de nosotros!».
32 Jesus stopped, cal ed them over and said, 'What do you want me to do for you?'	32 Jesús se detuvo, los llamó y les preguntó: «¿Qué quieren que haga por ustedes?».
33 They said to him, 'Lord, let us have our sight back.'	33 Ellos le respondieron: «Señor, que se abran nuestros ojos».
34 Jesus felt pity for them and touched their eyes, and at once their sight returned and they fol owedhim.	34 Jesús se compadeció de ellos y tocó sus ojos. Inmediatamente, recobraron la vista y lo siguieron.
