Matthew 20

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA CEI 2008
1 'Now the kingdom of Heaven is like a landowner going out at daybreak to hire workers for his vineyard.	1 Il regno dei cieli è simile a un padrone di casa che uscì all’alba per prendere a giornata lavoratori per la sua vigna.
2 He made an agreement with the workers for one denarius a day and sent them to his vineyard.	2 Si accordò con loro per un denaro al giorno e li mandò nella sua vigna.
3 Going out at about the third hour he saw others standing idle in the market place	3 Uscito poi verso le nove del mattino, ne vide altri che stavano in piazza, disoccupati,
4 and said to them, "You go to my vineyard too and I wil give you a fair wage."	4 e disse loro: “Andate anche voi nella vigna; quello che è giusto ve lo darò”.
5 So they went. At about the sixth hour and again at about the ninth hour, he went out and did the same.	5 Ed essi andarono. Uscì di nuovo verso mezzogiorno, e verso le tre, e fece altrettanto.
6 Then at about the eleventh hour he went out and found more men standing around, and he said tothem, "Why have you been standing here idle all day?"	6 Uscito ancora verso le cinque, ne vide altri che se ne stavano lì e disse loro: “Perché ve ne state qui tutto il giorno senza far niente?”.
7 "Because no one has hired us," they answered. He said to them, "You go into my vineyard too."	7 Gli risposero: “Perché nessuno ci ha presi a giornata”. Ed egli disse loro: “Andate anche voi nella vigna”.
8 In the evening, the owner of the vineyard said to his bailiff, "Call the workers and pay them theirwages, starting with the last arrivals and ending with the first."	8 Quando fu sera, il padrone della vigna disse al suo fattore: “Chiama i lavoratori e da’ loro la paga, incominciando dagli ultimi fino ai primi”.
9 So those who were hired at about the eleventh hour came forward and received one denarius each.	9 Venuti quelli delle cinque del pomeriggio, ricevettero ciascuno un denaro.
10 When the first came, they expected to get more, but they too received one denarius each.	10 Quando arrivarono i primi, pensarono che avrebbero ricevuto di più. Ma anch’essi ricevettero ciascuno un denaro.
11 They took it, but grumbled at the landowner saying,	11 Nel ritirarlo, però, mormoravano contro il padrone
12 "The men who came last have done only one hour, and you have treated them the same as us,though we have done a heavy day's work in al the heat."	12 dicendo: “Questi ultimi hanno lavorato un’ora soltanto e li hai trattati come noi, che abbiamo sopportato il peso della giornata e il caldo”.
13 He answered one of them and said, "My friend, I am not being unjust to you; did we not agree on onedenarius?	13 Ma il padrone, rispondendo a uno di loro, disse: “Amico, io non ti faccio torto. Non hai forse concordato con me per un denaro?
14 Take your earnings and go. I choose to pay the lastcomer as much as I pay you.	14 Prendi il tuo e vattene. Ma io voglio dare anche a quest’ultimo quanto a te:
15 Have I no right to do what I like with my own? Why should you be envious because I am generous?"	15 non posso fare delle mie cose quello che voglio? Oppure tu sei invidioso perché io sono buono?”.
16 Thus the last wil be first, and the first, last.'	16 Così gli ultimi saranno primi e i primi, ultimi».
17 Jesus was going up to Jerusalem, and on the road he took the Twelve aside by themselves and saidto them,	17 Mentre saliva a Gerusalemme, Gesù prese in disparte i dodici discepoli e lungo il cammino disse loro:
18 'Look, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of man is about to be handed over to the chiefpriests and scribes. They wil condemn him to death	18 «Ecco, noi saliamo a Gerusalemme e il Figlio dell’uomo sarà consegnato ai capi dei sacerdoti e agli scribi; lo condanneranno a morte
19 and will hand him over to the gentiles to be mocked and scourged and crucified; and on the third dayhe wil be raised up again.'	19 e lo consegneranno ai pagani perché venga deriso e flagellato e crocifisso, e il terzo giorno risorgerà».
20 Then the mother of Zebedee's sons came with her sons to make a request of him, and bowed low;	20 Allora gli si avvicinò la madre dei figli di Zebedeo con i suoi figli e si prostrò per chiedergli qualcosa.
21 and he said to her, 'What is it you want?' She said to him, 'Promise that these two sons of mine maysit one at your right hand and the other at your left in your kingdom.'	21 Egli le disse: «Che cosa vuoi?». Gli rispose: «Di’ che questi miei due figli siedano uno alla tua destra e uno alla tua sinistra nel tuo regno».
22 Jesus answered, 'You do not know what you are asking. Can you drink the cup that I am going todrink?' They replied, 'We can.'	22 Rispose Gesù: «Voi non sapete quello che chiedete. Potete bere il calice che io sto per bere?». Gli dicono: «Lo possiamo».
23 He said to them, 'Very wel ; you shal drink my cup, but as for seats at my right hand and my left,these are not mine to grant; they belong to those to whom they have been al otted by my Father.'	23 Ed egli disse loro: «Il mio calice, lo berrete; però sedere alla mia destra e alla mia sinistra non sta a me concederlo: è per coloro per i quali il Padre mio lo ha preparato».
24 When the other ten heard this they were indignant with the two brothers.	24 Gli altri dieci, avendo sentito, si sdegnarono con i due fratelli.
25 But Jesus cal ed them to him and said, 'You know that among the gentiles the rulers lord it over them,and great men make their authority felt.	25 Ma Gesù li chiamò a sé e disse: «Voi sapete che i governanti delle nazioni dóminano su di esse e i capi le opprimono.
26 Among you this is not to happen. No; anyone who wants to become great among you must be yourservant,	26 Tra voi non sarà così; ma chi vuole diventare grande tra voi, sarà vostro servitore
27 and anyone who wants to be first among you must be your slave,	27 e chi vuole essere il primo tra voi, sarà vostro schiavo.
28 just as the Son of man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.'	28 Come il Figlio dell’uomo, che non è venuto per farsi servire, ma per servire e dare la propria vita in riscatto per molti».
29 As they left Jericho a large crowd fol owed him.	29 Mentre uscivano da Gerico, una grande folla lo seguì.
30 And now there were two blind men sitting at the side of the road. When they heard that it was Jesuswho was passing by, they shouted, 'Lord! Have pity on us, son of David.'	30 Ed ecco, due ciechi, seduti lungo la strada, sentendo che passava Gesù, gridarono dicendo: «Signore, figlio di Davide, abbi pietà di noi!».
31 And the crowd scolded them and told them to keep quiet, but they only shouted the louder, 'Lord!Have pity on us, son of David.'	31 La folla li rimproverava perché tacessero; ma essi gridavano ancora più forte: «Signore, figlio di Davide, abbi pietà di noi!».
32 Jesus stopped, cal ed them over and said, 'What do you want me to do for you?'	32 Gesù si fermò, li chiamò e disse: «Che cosa volete che io faccia per voi?».
33 They said to him, 'Lord, let us have our sight back.'	33 Gli risposero: «Signore, che i nostri occhi si aprano!».
34 Jesus felt pity for them and touched their eyes, and at once their sight returned and they fol owedhim.	34 Gesù ebbe compassione, toccò loro gli occhi ed essi all’istante ricuperarono la vista e lo seguirono.
