Jeremiah 17

1 'The sin of Judah is written with an iron pen, engraved with a diamond point on the tablet of the heartand on the horns of their altars,	1 חטאת יהודה כתובה בעט ברזל בצפרן שמיר חרושה על לוח לבם ולקרנות מזבחותיכם
2 while their children remember their altars and their sacred pole beside the green trees, on the lofty hil s.	2 כזכר בניהם מזבחותם ואשריהם על עץ רענן על גבעות הגבהות
3 My mountain on the plain, your wealth and all your treasures I shal hand over to be plundered,because of the sin of your high places throughout your territory.	3 הררי בשדה חילך כל אוצרותיך לבז אתן במתיך בחטאת בכל גבוליך
4 You wil have to relinquish your heritage which I gave you; I wil enslave you to your enemies in acountry which you do not know, for my fiery anger kindled by you wil burn for ever.'	4 ושמטתה ובך מנחלתך אשר נתתי לך והעבדתיך את איביך בארץ אשר לא ידעת כי אש קדחתם באפי עד עולם תוקד
5 Yahweh says this, 'Accursed be anyone who trusts in human beings, who relies on human strengthand whose heart turns from Yahweh.	5 כה אמר יהוה ארור הגבר אשר יבטח באדם ושם בשר זרעו ומן יהוה יסור לבו
6 Such a person is like scrub in the wastelands: when good comes, it does not affect him since he livesin the parched places of the desert, uninhabited, salt land.	6 והיה כערער בערבה ולא יראה כי יבוא טוב ושכן חררים במדבר ארץ מלחה ולא תשב
7 'Blessed is anyone who trusts in Yahweh, with Yahweh to rely on.	7 ברוך הגבר אשר יבטח ביהוה והיה יהוה מבטחו
8 Such a person is like a tree by the waterside that thrusts its roots to the stream: when the heat comes ithas nothing to fear, its foliage stays green; untroubled in a year of drought, it never stops bearing fruit.	8 והיה כעץ שתול על מים ועל יובל ישלח שרשיו ולא ירא כי יבא חם והיה עלהו רענן ובשנת בצרת לא ידאג ולא ימיש מעשות פרי
9 'The heart is more devious than any other thing, and is depraved; who can pierce its secrets?	9 עקב הלב מכל ואנש הוא מי ידענו
10 I, Yahweh, search the heart, test the motives, to give each person what his conduct and his actionsdeserve.	10 אני יהוה חקר לב בחן כליות ולתת לאיש כדרכו כפרי מעלליו
11 'The partridge will hatch eggs it has not laid. No different is the person who gets riches unjustly: hisdays half done, they wil desert him and he prove a fool after al .'	11 קרא דגר ולא ילד עשה עשר ולא במשפט בחצי ימו יעזבנו ובאחריתו יהיה נבל
12 A glorious throne, sublime from the beginning, such is our Holy Place.	12 כסא כבוד מרום מראשון מקום מקדשנו
13 Yahweh, hope of Israel, al who abandon you wil be put to shame, those who turn from you wil beregistered in the underworld, since they have abandoned Yahweh, the fountain of living water.	13 מקוה ישראל יהוה כל עזביך יבשו יסורי בארץ יכתבו כי עזבו מקור מים חיים את יהוה
14 Heal me, Yahweh, and I shall be healed, save me, and I shal be saved, for you are my praise.	14 רפאני יהוה וארפא הושיעני ואושעה כי תהלתי אתה
15 Look, they keep saying to me, 'Where is Yahweh's word? Let it come true then!'	15 הנה המה אמרים אלי איה דבר יהוה יבוא נא
16 Yet I have never urged you to send disaster, I never desired the fatal day, this you know; what camefrom my lips was not concealed from you.	16 ואני לא אצתי מרעה אחריך ויום אנוש לא התאויתי אתה ידעת מוצא שפתי נכח פניך היה
17 Do not be a terror to me, you, my refuge in time of disaster.	17 אל תהיה לי למחתה מחסי אתה ביום רעה
18 Let my persecutors be confounded, not me, let them, not me, be terrified. On them bring the day ofdisaster, destroy them, destroy them twice over!	18 יבשו רדפי ואל אבשה אני יחתו המה ואל אחתה אני הביא עליהם יום רעה ומשנה שברון שברם
19 Yahweh said this to me, 'Go and stand at the Gate of the Sons of the People by which the kings ofJudah go in and out -- and at al the gates of Jerusalem.	19 כה אמר יהוה אלי הלך ועמדת בשער בני עם אשר יבאו בו מלכי יהודה ואשר יצאו בו ובכל שערי ירושלם
20 Say to them, "Listen to the word of Yahweh, you kings of Judah, al you people of Judah too, and alyou inhabitants of Jerusalem who pass through the gates.	20 ואמרת אליהם שמעו דבר יהוה מלכי יהודה וכל יהודה וכל ישבי ירושלם הבאים בשערים האלה
21 Yahweh says this: As you value your lives, on no account carry a burden on the Sabbath day or bringit in through the gates of Jerusalem.	21 כה אמר יהוה השמרו בנפשותיכם ואל תשאו משא ביום השבת והבאתם בשערי ירושלם
22 Bring no burden out of your houses on the Sabbath day, and do no work. Keep the Sabbath day holy,as I ordered your ancestors.	22 ולא תוציאו משא מבתיכם ביום השבת וכל מלאכה לא תעשו וקדשתם את יום השבת כאשר צויתי את אבותיכם
23 They would not hear, would not pay attention; they deliberately refused to listen or accept instruction.	23 ולא שמעו ולא הטו את אזנם ויקשו את ערפם לבלתי שומע ולבלתי קחת מוסר
24 But if you listen careful y to me, Yahweh declares, and bring no burden in through the gates of this cityon the Sabbath day, if you keep the Sabbath holy and do no work on that day,	24 והיה אם שמע תשמעון אלי נאם יהוה לבלתי הביא משא בשערי העיר הזאת ביום השבת ולקדש את יום השבת לבלתי עשות בה כל מלאכה
25 then, through the gates of this city, kings and princes occupying the throne of David wil continue tomake their entry, riding in chariots or on horseback, they, their chief men, the people of Judah and theinhabitants of Jerusalem. And this city wil be inhabited for ever.	25 ובאו בשערי העיר הזאת מלכים ושרים ישבים על כסא דוד רכבים ברכב ובסוסים המה ושריהם איש יהודה וישבי ירושלם וישבה העיר הזאת לעולם
26 They wil come from the towns of Judah, from the districts round Jerusalem, from the territory ofBenjamin, from the lowlands, from the highlands, from the Negeb, to offer burnt offering and sacrifice, and cerealoffering and incense, to offer thanksgiving sacrifices in the Temple of Yahweh.	26 ובאו מערי יהודה ומסביבות ירושלם ומארץ בנימן ומן השפלה ומן ההר ומן הנגב מבאים עולה וזבח ומנחה ולבונה ומבאי תודה בית יהוה
27 But if you do not listen to me to keep the Sabbath day holy, and to refrain from entering the gates ofJerusalem with burdens on the Sabbath day, then I shal set fire to its gates; fire wil devour the palaces ofJerusalem and not be quenched." '	27 ואם לא תשמעו אלי לקדש את יום השבת ולבלתי שאת משא ובא בשערי ירושלם ביום השבת והצתי אש בשעריה ואכלה ארמנות ירושלם ולא תכבה
