Jeremiah 17

NEW JERUSALEM	VULGATA
1 'The sin of Judah is written with an iron pen, engraved with a diamond point on the tablet of the heartand on the horns of their altars,	1 Peccatum Juda scriptum est stylo ferreo in ungue adamantino, exaratum super latitudinem cordis eorum, et in cornibus ararum eorum.
2 while their children remember their altars and their sacred pole beside the green trees, on the lofty hil s.	2 Cum recordati fuerint filii eorum ararum suarum, et lucorum suorum, lignorumque frondentium, in montibus excelsis,
3 My mountain on the plain, your wealth and all your treasures I shal hand over to be plundered,because of the sin of your high places throughout your territory.	3 sacrificantes in agro : fortitudinem tuam, et omnes thesauros tuos in direptionem dabo ; excelsa tua propter peccata in universis finibus tuis.
4 You wil have to relinquish your heritage which I gave you; I wil enslave you to your enemies in acountry which you do not know, for my fiery anger kindled by you wil burn for ever.'	4 Et relinqueris sola ab hæreditate tua, quam dedi tibi, et servire te faciam inimicis tuis in terra quam ignoras : quoniam ignem succendisti in furore meo : usque in æternum ardebit.
5 Yahweh says this, 'Accursed be anyone who trusts in human beings, who relies on human strengthand whose heart turns from Yahweh.	5 Hæc dicit Dominus : Maledictus homo qui confidit in homine, et ponit carnem brachium suum, et a Domino recedit cor ejus.
6 Such a person is like scrub in the wastelands: when good comes, it does not affect him since he livesin the parched places of the desert, uninhabited, salt land.	6 Erit enim quasi myricæ in deserto, et non videbit cum venerit bonum : sed habitabit in siccitate in deserto, in terra salsuginis et inhabitabili.
7 'Blessed is anyone who trusts in Yahweh, with Yahweh to rely on.	7 Benedictus vir qui confidit in Domino, et erit Dominus fiducia ejus.
8 Such a person is like a tree by the waterside that thrusts its roots to the stream: when the heat comes ithas nothing to fear, its foliage stays green; untroubled in a year of drought, it never stops bearing fruit.	8 Et erit quasi lignum quod transplantatur super aquas, quod ad humorem mittit radices suas, et non timebit cum venerit æstus : et erit folium ejus viride, et in tempore siccitatis non erit sollicitum, nec aliquando desinet facere fructum.
9 'The heart is more devious than any other thing, and is depraved; who can pierce its secrets?	9 Pravum est cor omnium, et inscrutabile : quis cognoscet illud ?
10 I, Yahweh, search the heart, test the motives, to give each person what his conduct and his actionsdeserve.	10 Ego Dominus scrutans cor, et probans renes : qui do unicuique juxta viam suam, et juxta fructum adinventionum suarum.
11 'The partridge will hatch eggs it has not laid. No different is the person who gets riches unjustly: hisdays half done, they wil desert him and he prove a fool after al .'	11 Perdix fovit quæ non peperit : fecit divitias, et non in judicio : in dimidio dierum suorum derelinquet eas, et in novissimo suo erit insipiens.
12 A glorious throne, sublime from the beginning, such is our Holy Place.	12 Solium gloriæ altitudinis a principio, locus sanctificationis nostræ.
13 Yahweh, hope of Israel, al who abandon you wil be put to shame, those who turn from you wil beregistered in the underworld, since they have abandoned Yahweh, the fountain of living water.	13 Exspectatio Israël, Domine, omnes qui te derelinquunt confundentur : recedentes a te, in terra scribentur, quoniam dereliquerunt venam aquarum viventium Dominum.
14 Heal me, Yahweh, and I shall be healed, save me, and I shal be saved, for you are my praise.	14 Sana me, Domine, et sanabor : salvum me fac, et salvus ero : quoniam laus mea tu es.
15 Look, they keep saying to me, 'Where is Yahweh's word? Let it come true then!'	15 Ecce ipsi dicunt ad me : Ubi est verbum Domini ? veniat :
16 Yet I have never urged you to send disaster, I never desired the fatal day, this you know; what camefrom my lips was not concealed from you.	16 et ego non sum turbatus, te pastorem sequens : et diem hominis non desideravi, tu scis : quod egressum est de labiis meis, rectum in conspectu tuo fuit.
17 Do not be a terror to me, you, my refuge in time of disaster.	17 Non sis tu mihi formidini : spes mea tu in die afflictionis.
18 Let my persecutors be confounded, not me, let them, not me, be terrified. On them bring the day ofdisaster, destroy them, destroy them twice over!	18 Confundantur qui me persequuntur, et non confundar ego : paveant illi, et non paveam ego : induc super eos diem afflictionis, et duplici contritione contere eos.
19 Yahweh said this to me, 'Go and stand at the Gate of the Sons of the People by which the kings ofJudah go in and out -- and at al the gates of Jerusalem.	19 Hæc dicit Dominus ad me : Vade, et sta in porta filiorum populi, per quam ingrediuntur reges Juda, et egrediuntur, et in cunctis portis Jerusalem :
20 Say to them, "Listen to the word of Yahweh, you kings of Judah, al you people of Judah too, and alyou inhabitants of Jerusalem who pass through the gates.	20 et dices ad eos : Audite verbum Domini, reges Juda, et omnis Juda, cunctique habitatores Jerusalem, qui ingredimini per portas istas.
21 Yahweh says this: As you value your lives, on no account carry a burden on the Sabbath day or bringit in through the gates of Jerusalem.	21 Hæc dicit Dominus : Custodite animas vestras, et nolite portare pondera in die sabbati, nec inferatis per portas Jerusalem :
22 Bring no burden out of your houses on the Sabbath day, and do no work. Keep the Sabbath day holy,as I ordered your ancestors.	22 et nolite ejicere onera de domibus vestris in die sabbati, et omne opus non facietis : sanctificate diem sabbati, sicut præcepi patribus vestris.
23 They would not hear, would not pay attention; they deliberately refused to listen or accept instruction.	23 Et non audierunt, nec inclinaverunt aurem suam : sed induraverunt cervicem suam, ne audirent me, et ne acciperent disciplinam.
24 But if you listen careful y to me, Yahweh declares, and bring no burden in through the gates of this cityon the Sabbath day, if you keep the Sabbath holy and do no work on that day,	24 Et erit : si audieritis me, dicit Dominus, ut non inferatis onera per portas civitatis hujus in die sabbati : et si sanctificaveritis diem sabbati, ne faciatis in eo omne opus :
25 then, through the gates of this city, kings and princes occupying the throne of David wil continue tomake their entry, riding in chariots or on horseback, they, their chief men, the people of Judah and theinhabitants of Jerusalem. And this city wil be inhabited for ever.	25 ingredientur per portas civitatis hujus reges et principes, sedentes super solium David, et ascendentes in curribus et equis, ipsi et principes eorum, viri Juda, et habitatores Jerusalem : et habitabitur civitas hæc in sempiternum.
26 They wil come from the towns of Judah, from the districts round Jerusalem, from the territory ofBenjamin, from the lowlands, from the highlands, from the Negeb, to offer burnt offering and sacrifice, and cerealoffering and incense, to offer thanksgiving sacrifices in the Temple of Yahweh.	26 Et venient de civitatibus Juda, et de circuitu Jerusalem, et de terra Benjamin, et de campestribus, et de montuosis, et ab austro, portantes holocaustum, et victimam, et sacrificium, et thus, et inferent oblationem in domum Domini.
27 But if you do not listen to me to keep the Sabbath day holy, and to refrain from entering the gates ofJerusalem with burdens on the Sabbath day, then I shal set fire to its gates; fire wil devour the palaces ofJerusalem and not be quenched." '	27 Si autem non audieritis me ut sanctificetis diem sabbati, et ne portetis onus, et ne inferatis per portas Jerusalem in die sabbati, succendam ignem in portis ejus, et devorabit domos Jerusalem, et non extinguetur.
