Sirach 14

NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 Blessed is anyone who has not sinned in speech and who needs feel no remorse for sins.	1 Beato l'uomo che non incespica con la lingua, e non è afflitto dalla pena del peccato.
2 Blessed is anyone whose conscience brings no reproach and who has never given up hope.	2 Beato chi la coscienza non rimprovera e non ha perduto la sua speranza.
3 Wealth is not the right thing for the niggardly, and what use are possessions to the covetous?	3 All'uomo gretto la ricchezza non sta bene; forse serve l'argento a chi è avido?
4 Whoever hoards by stinting himself is hoarding for others, and others wil live sumptuously on hisriches.	4 Chi raccoglie con le privazioni raccoglie per gli altri; costoro potranno sperperare i suoi beni.
5 If someone is mean to himself, whom does he benefit? he does not even enjoy what is his own.	5 Chi è nocivo per sé come sarà utile agli altri? Egli non si godrà le sue ricchezze.
6 No one is meaner than the person who is mean to himself, this is how his wickedness repays him.	6 Non c'è peggio dell'uomo che risparmia con se stesso, questa è la ricompensa del suo errore:
7 If he does any good, he does it unintentional y, and in the end he himself reveals his wickedness.	7 se fa il bene lo fa per distrazione, ma alla fine sarà manifesto il suo errore.
8 Wicked the person who has an envious eye, averting his face, and careless of others' lives.	8 L'uomo dall'occhio cupido è un perverso, volta la sua faccia e non vede il bisogno.
9 The eye of the grasping is not content with what he has, greed shrivels up the soul.	9 L'occhio cupido non si sazia con la sua parte, l'iniqua ingiustizia gli dissecca l'anima.
10 The miser is grudging of bread, there is famine at his table.	10 L'occhio malvagio invidia il pane altrui, perciò la sua tavola è vuota.
11 My child, treat yourself as wel as you can afford, and bring worthy offerings to the Lord.	11 Figlio, goditi quanto possiedi, ma offri al Signore sacrifici generosi.
12 Remember that death wil not delay, and that you have never seen Sheol's contract.	12 Ricòrdati che la morte non perde tempo, né ti è stato rivelato il patto con gl'inferi.
13 Be kind to your friend before you die, treat him as generously as you can afford.	13 Prima della morte fa' del bene all'amico, impégnati quanto puoi per aiutarlo.
14 Do not refuse yourself the good things of today, do not let your share of what is lawfully desired passyou by.	14 Non privarti dei giorni lieti, e non ti sfugga nulla di un desiderio legittimo.
15 Wil you not have to leave your fortune to another, and the fruit of your labour to be divided by lot?	15 Non lascerai ad altri il frutto delle tue fatiche, e non passerà agli eredi il frutto dei tuoi sacrifici?
16 Give and receive, enjoy yourself -- there are no pleasures to be found in Sheol.	16 Da' e prendi, goditi la vita, perché negl'inferi non si cerca l'allegria.
17 Like clothes, every body wil wear out, the age -- old law is, 'Everyone must die.'	17 Ogni carne invecchia come un mantello, perché da sempre vige questo patto: tu devi morire.
18 Like foliage growing on a bushy tree, some leaves fal ing, others growing, so are the generations offlesh and blood: one dies, another is born.	18 Come foglie verdeggianti su florido albero, alcune cadono e altre germogliano, così è per la razza di carne e di sangue, alcuni muoiono e altri nascono.
19 Every achievement rots away and perishes, and with it goes its author.	19 Ogni opera corruttibile passa, e chi la compie sparisce con essa.
20 Blessed is anyone who meditates on wisdom, and reasons with intelligence,	20 Beato l'uomo che si dedica alla sapienza, che riflette con l'intelligenza,
21 who studies her ways in his heart, and ponders her secrets.	21 che medita in cuore le sue vie e penetra nei suoi segreti.
22 He pursues her like a hunter, and lies in wait by her path;	22 Esci dietro ad essa come un cacciatore, e sta' in agguato là dove passa.
23 he peeps in at her windows, and listens at her doors;	23 Chi la spia attraverso le finestre, l'ascolta attraverso le sue porte,
24 he lodges close to her house, and fixes his peg in her wal s;	24 s'accampa vicino alla sua casa, pianta il picchetto tra le sue mura
25 he pitches his tent at her side, and lodges in an excel ent lodging;	25 e pone la tenda al suo fianco, abitando nella dimora d'ogni bene,
26 he sets his children in her shade, and camps beneath her branches;	26 costui ha posto i figli al suo riparo e risiede all'ombra dei suoi rami;
27 he is sheltered by her from the heat, and in her glory he makes his home.	27 essa lo proteggerà dal calore ed egli abiterà nella sua gloria.
