Sirach 14

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA CEI 2008
1 Blessed is anyone who has not sinned in speech and who needs feel no remorse for sins.	1 Beato l’uomo che non ha peccato con la sua bocca e non è tormentato dal rimorso dei peccati.
2 Blessed is anyone whose conscience brings no reproach and who has never given up hope.	2 Beato chi non ha nulla da rimproverarsi e chi non ha perduto la sua speranza.
3 Wealth is not the right thing for the niggardly, and what use are possessions to the covetous?	3 A un uomo gretto non va bene la ricchezza, a che cosa servono gli averi a un uomo avaro?
4 Whoever hoards by stinting himself is hoarding for others, and others wil live sumptuously on hisriches.	4 Chi accumula a forza di privazioni, accumula per altri; con i suoi beni faranno festa gli estranei.
5 If someone is mean to himself, whom does he benefit? he does not even enjoy what is his own.	5 Chi è cattivo con se stesso con chi sarà buono? Certo non godrà delle sue ricchezze.
6 No one is meaner than the person who is mean to himself, this is how his wickedness repays him.	6 Nessuno è peggiore di chi danneggia se stesso, e questa è la ricompensa della sua malizia:
7 If he does any good, he does it unintentional y, and in the end he himself reveals his wickedness.	7 anche se fa il bene, lo fa per distrazione, e alla fine sarà manifesta la sua malizia.
8 Wicked the person who has an envious eye, averting his face, and careless of others' lives.	8 È malvagio l’uomo dall’occhio invidioso, volge lo sguardo altrove e disprezza la vita altrui.
9 The eye of the grasping is not content with what he has, greed shrivels up the soul.	9 L’occhio dell’avaro non si accontenta della sua parte, una malvagia ingiustizia gli inaridisce l’anima.
10 The miser is grudging of bread, there is famine at his table.	10 Un occhio cattivo è invidioso anche del pane ed è proprio questo che manca sulla sua tavola.
11 My child, treat yourself as wel as you can afford, and bring worthy offerings to the Lord.	11 Figlio, per quanto ti è possibile, tràttati bene e presenta al Signore le offerte dovute.
12 Remember that death wil not delay, and that you have never seen Sheol's contract.	12 Ricòrdati che la morte non tarderà e il decreto degli inferi non ti è stato rivelato.
13 Be kind to your friend before you die, treat him as generously as you can afford.	13 Prima di morire fa’ del bene all’amico, secondo le tue possibilità sii generoso con lui.
14 Do not refuse yourself the good things of today, do not let your share of what is lawfully desired passyou by.	14 Non privarti di un giorno felice, non ti sfugga nulla di un legittimo desiderio.
15 Wil you not have to leave your fortune to another, and the fruit of your labour to be divided by lot?	15 Non lascerai forse a un altro i frutti del tuo lavoro, e le tue fatiche per essere divise fra gli eredi?
16 Give and receive, enjoy yourself -- there are no pleasures to be found in Sheol.	16 Regala e accetta regali, e divèrtiti, perché negli inferi non si ricerca l’allegria.
17 Like clothes, every body wil wear out, the age -- old law is, 'Everyone must die.'	17 Ogni corpo invecchia come un abito, è una legge da sempre: «Devi morire!».
18 Like foliage growing on a bushy tree, some leaves fal ing, others growing, so are the generations offlesh and blood: one dies, another is born.	18 Come foglie verdi su un albero frondoso, alcune cadono e altre germogliano, così sono le generazioni umane: una muore e un’altra nasce.
19 Every achievement rots away and perishes, and with it goes its author.	19 Ogni opera corruttibile scompare e chi la compie se ne andrà con essa.
20 Blessed is anyone who meditates on wisdom, and reasons with intelligence,	20 Beato l’uomo che si dedica alla sapienza e riflette con la sua intelligenza,
21 who studies her ways in his heart, and ponders her secrets.	21 che medita nel cuore le sue vie e con la mente ne penetra i segreti.
22 He pursues her like a hunter, and lies in wait by her path;	22 La insegue come un cacciatore, si apposta sui suoi sentieri.
23 he peeps in at her windows, and listens at her doors;	23 Egli spia alle sue finestre e sta ad ascoltare alla sua porta.
24 he lodges close to her house, and fixes his peg in her wal s;	24 Sosta vicino alla sua casa e fissa il picchetto nelle sue pareti,
25 he pitches his tent at her side, and lodges in an excel ent lodging;	25 alza la propria tenda presso di lei e si ripara in un rifugio di benessere,
26 he sets his children in her shade, and camps beneath her branches;	26 mette i propri figli sotto la sua protezione e sotto i suoi rami soggiorna;
27 he is sheltered by her from the heat, and in her glory he makes his home.	27 da lei è protetto contro il caldo, e nella sua gloria egli abita.
