Sirach 14

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA RICCIOTTI
1 Blessed is anyone who has not sinned in speech and who needs feel no remorse for sins.	1 Beato chi non sdrucciolò con le parole di sua bocca nè fu punto dal rimorso del peccato.
2 Blessed is anyone whose conscience brings no reproach and who has never given up hope.	2 Felice colui che non ha rimorso sull'anima sua, nè ha perduto la sua speranza.
3 Wealth is not the right thing for the niggardly, and what use are possessions to the covetous?	3 Per l'uomo avido e spilorcio è vana la ricchezza, e all'uomo invidioso a che [serve] l'oro?
4 Whoever hoards by stinting himself is hoarding for others, and others wil live sumptuously on hisriches.	4 Chi accumula lesinando su se stesso, ammassa per altri e co' beni suoi un altro se la scialerà.
5 If someone is mean to himself, whom does he benefit? he does not even enjoy what is his own.	5 Chi è duro con sè, con chi sarà egli buono? non si goderà i suoi tesori.
6 No one is meaner than the person who is mean to himself, this is how his wickedness repays him.	6 Nulla v'ha di peggio di chi porta invidia a se stesso: questa è la mercede della sua malvagità.
7 If he does any good, he does it unintentional y, and in the end he himself reveals his wickedness.	7 E s'egli fa del bene, lo fa per inavvertenza e senza volere, e all'ultimo manifesta la sua malvagità.
8 Wicked the person who has an envious eye, averting his face, and careless of others' lives.	8 Tristo è l'occhio dell'invidioso, che volge la faccia altrove e disdegna l'anima.
9 The eye of the grasping is not content with what he has, greed shrivels up the soul.	9 Insaziabile è l'occhio dell'avaro in fatto d'Ingiustizia, nè sarà sazio finché non abbia consumato e inaridito l'anima sua.
10 The miser is grudging of bread, there is famine at his table.	10 L'occhio maligno [è rivolto] al male, nè si sazierà col pane; affamato e triste sarà alla sua propria mensa.
11 My child, treat yourself as wel as you can afford, and bring worthy offerings to the Lord.	11 Figliuolo, se possiedi, fa' del bene a te stesso, e offri al Signore oblazioni degne.
12 Remember that death wil not delay, and that you have never seen Sheol's contract.	12 Ricordati che la morte non tarda, e che il patto degli Inferi t'è stato notificato; è legge invero di questo mondo: «Egli dovrà morire».
13 Be kind to your friend before you die, treat him as generously as you can afford.	13 Prima di morire, fa' del bene al tuo amico, e secondo le tue forze stendi la mano e dà al povero.
14 Do not refuse yourself the good things of today, do not let your share of what is lawfully desired passyou by.	14 Non ti privare d'una buona giornata, e non ti lasciar sfuggire particella alcuna d'un buon regalo.
15 Wil you not have to leave your fortune to another, and the fruit of your labour to be divided by lot?	15 Forse che non lascerai ad altri [il frutto del]le tue pene e del[le] tue fatiche, perchè sia diviso a sorte?
16 Give and receive, enjoy yourself -- there are no pleasures to be found in Sheol.	16 Dà e ricevi e giustifica l'anima tua;
17 Like clothes, every body wil wear out, the age -- old law is, 'Everyone must die.'	17 prima della tua morte pratica la giustizia, perchè non c'è da trovar cibo negli Inferi.
18 Like foliage growing on a bushy tree, some leaves fal ing, others growing, so are the generations offlesh and blood: one dies, another is born.	18 Ogni carne invecchia al pari d'un vestimento. Come le foglie verdeggianti su frondosa pianta
19 Every achievement rots away and perishes, and with it goes its author.	19 altre ne nascono e altre ne cadono: cosi le generazioni della carne e del sangue, l'una muore e l'altra nasce.
20 Blessed is anyone who meditates on wisdom, and reasons with intelligence,	20 Ogni opera corruttibile vien meno alla fine, e chi l'ha fatta, se n'andrà con essa.
21 who studies her ways in his heart, and ponders her secrets.	21 Ed ogni opera eletta sarà approvata, e chi l'ha fatta, sarà onorato a cagion sua.
22 He pursues her like a hunter, and lies in wait by her path;	22 Beato l'uomo che persevera nella sapienza, e medita sulla sua giustizia, e pensa in cuor [suo] che Dio tutto vede all'intorno;
23 he peeps in at her windows, and listens at her doors;	23 che ripensa in cuor suo le vie di lei, e ne scruta i segreti; che le tien dietro come un che segue le piste, e s'apposta per le sue strade;
24 he lodges close to her house, and fixes his peg in her wal s;	24 che spia per le finestre di lei, e alla porta di lei sta in ascolto;
25 he pitches his tent at her side, and lodges in an excel ent lodging;	25 che fa sosta presso la casa di lei, e figge il piolo [della propria tenda] nelle sue pareti. Egli drizza la sua tenda a fianco di lei, e nella sua tenda riposerà la felicità in eterno.
26 he sets his children in her shade, and camps beneath her branches;	26 E' mette i suoi figliuoli sotto la protezione di lei, e si ripara sotto i suoi rami.
27 he is sheltered by her from the heat, and in her glory he makes his home.	27 Sarà difeso dal caldo all'ombra di lei, e nel suo splendore si riposerà.
