NEW JERUSALEMLXX
Blessed is anyone who has not sinned in speech and who needs feel no remorse for sins.1 μακαριος ανηρ ος ουκ ωλισθησεν εν τω στοματι αυτου και ου κατενυγη εν λυπη αμαρτιων
Blessed is anyone whose conscience brings no reproach and who has never given up hope.2 μακαριος ου ου κατεγνω η ψυχη αυτου και ος ουκ επεσεν απο της ελπιδος αυτου
Wealth is not the right thing for the niggardly, and what use are possessions to the covetous?3 ανδρι μικρολογω ου καλος ο πλουτος και ανθρωπω βασκανω ινα τι χρηματα
Whoever hoards by stinting himself is hoarding for others, and others wil live sumptuously on hisriches.4 ο συναγων απο της ψυχης αυτου συναγει αλλοις και εν τοις αγαθοις αυτου τρυφησουσιν ετεροι
If someone is mean to himself, whom does he benefit? he does not even enjoy what is his own.5 ο πονηρος εαυτω τινι αγαθος εσται και ου μη ευφρανθησεται εν τοις χρημασιν αυτου
No one is meaner than the person who is mean to himself, this is how his wickedness repays him.6 του βασκαινοντος εαυτον ουκ εστιν πονηροτερος και τουτο ανταποδομα της κακιας αυτου
If he does any good, he does it unintentional y, and in the end he himself reveals his wickedness.7 καν ευ ποιη εν ληθη ποιει και επ' εσχατων εκφαινει την κακιαν αυτου
Wicked the person who has an envious eye, averting his face, and careless of others' lives.8 πονηρος ο βασκαινων οφθαλμω αποστρεφων προσωπον και υπερορων ψυχας
The eye of the grasping is not content with what he has, greed shrivels up the soul.9 πλεονεκτου οφθαλμος ουκ εμπιπλαται μεριδι και αδικια πονηρα αναξηραινει ψυχην
The miser is grudging of bread, there is famine at his table.10 οφθαλμος πονηρος φθονερος επ' αρτω και ελλιπης επι της τραπεζης αυτου
My child, treat yourself as wel as you can afford, and bring worthy offerings to the Lord.11 τεκνον καθως εαν εχης ευ ποιει σεαυτον και προσφορας κυριω αξιως προσαγε
Remember that death wil not delay, and that you have never seen Sheol's contract.12 μνησθητι οτι θανατος ου χρονιει και διαθηκη αδου ουχ υπεδειχθη σοι
Be kind to your friend before you die, treat him as generously as you can afford.13 πριν σε τελευτησαι ευ ποιει φιλω και κατα την ισχυν σου εκτεινον και δος αυτω
Do not refuse yourself the good things of today, do not let your share of what is lawfully desired passyou by.14 μη αφυστερησης απο αγαθης ημερας και μερις επιθυμιας αγαθης μη σε παρελθατω
Wil you not have to leave your fortune to another, and the fruit of your labour to be divided by lot?15 ουχι ετερω καταλειψεις τους πονους σου και τους κοπους σου εις διαιρεσιν κληρου
Give and receive, enjoy yourself -- there are no pleasures to be found in Sheol.16 δος και λαβε και απατησον την ψυχην σου οτι ουκ εστιν εν αδου ζητησαι τρυφην
Like clothes, every body wil wear out, the age -- old law is, 'Everyone must die.'17 πασα σαρξ ως ιματιον παλαιουται η γαρ διαθηκη απ' αιωνος θανατω αποθανη
Like foliage growing on a bushy tree, some leaves fal ing, others growing, so are the generations offlesh and blood: one dies, another is born.18 ως φυλλον θαλλον επι δενδρου δασεος τα μεν καταβαλλει αλλα δε φυει ουτως γενεα σαρκος και αιματος η μεν τελευτα ετερα δε γενναται
Every achievement rots away and perishes, and with it goes its author.19 παν εργον σηπομενον εκλειπει και ο εργαζομενος αυτο μετ' αυτου απελευσεται
Blessed is anyone who meditates on wisdom, and reasons with intelligence,20 μακαριος ανηρ ος εν σοφια μελετησει και ος εν συνεσει αυτου διαλεχθησεται
who studies her ways in his heart, and ponders her secrets.21 ο διανοουμενος τας οδους αυτης εν καρδια αυτου και εν τοις αποκρυφοις αυτης εννοηθησεται
He pursues her like a hunter, and lies in wait by her path;22 εξελθε οπισω αυτης ως ιχνευτης και εν ταις οδοις αυτης ενεδρευε
he peeps in at her windows, and listens at her doors;23 ο παρακυπτων δια των θυριδων αυτης και επι των θυρωματων αυτης ακροασεται
he lodges close to her house, and fixes his peg in her wal s;24 ο καταλυων συνεγγυς του οικου αυτης και πηξει πασσαλον εν τοις τοιχοις αυτης
he pitches his tent at her side, and lodges in an excel ent lodging;25 στησει την σκηνην αυτου κατα χειρας αυτης και καταλυσει εν καταλυματι αγαθων
he sets his children in her shade, and camps beneath her branches;26 θησει τα τεκνα αυτου εν τη σκεπη αυτης και υπο τους κλαδους αυτης αυλισθησεται
he is sheltered by her from the heat, and in her glory he makes his home.27 σκεπασθησεται υπ' αυτης απο καυματος και εν τη δοξη αυτης καταλυσει
