Sirach 14

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA MARTINI
1 Blessed is anyone who has not sinned in speech and who needs feel no remorse for sins.	1 Beato l'uomo, che non ha fatto mancamento colle parole della sua bocca, e non è punto da rimorso di peccato.
2 Blessed is anyone whose conscience brings no reproach and who has never given up hope.	2 Felice colui, che non ha nell'animo suo tristezza, e non ha perduta la sua speranza.
3 Wealth is not the right thing for the niggardly, and what use are possessions to the covetous?	3 Per l'uomo cupido, e tenace sono inutili le ricchezze; e che farà dell'oro l'uomo insidioso?
4 Whoever hoards by stinting himself is hoarding for others, and others wil live sumptuously on hisriches.	4 Chi accumula con defraudare in giustamente se stesso, accumula per altri, e un altro sguazzerà ne' beni di lui.
5 If someone is mean to himself, whom does he benefit? he does not even enjoy what is his own.	5 Con chi sarà egli buono chi è cattivo verso se stesso, e non ritrae veruna soddisfazione da suoi beni?
6 No one is meaner than the person who is mean to himself, this is how his wickedness repays him.	6 Nulla v'ha di più iniquo di colui, che è invidioso verso se stesso; e questa, è la mercede della sua malignità.
7 If he does any good, he does it unintentional y, and in the end he himself reveals his wickedness.	7 Che se egli fa qualche bene, senza saperlo lo fa, e senza volerlo: e alla fine manifesta la sua malizia.
8 Wicked the person who has an envious eye, averting his face, and careless of others' lives.	8 Cattivo è l'occhio dell'invidioso, egli volta altrove la faccia, e disprezza l'anima propria.
9 The eye of the grasping is not content with what he has, greed shrivels up the soul.	9 L'occhio dell'avaro non si sazia di una porzione ingiusta: non si sazierà fino a tanto, che abbia consumata, e strutta la sua vita.
10 The miser is grudging of bread, there is famine at his table.	10 L'occhio maligno è inteso al male, e non si caverà la fame, ma resterà famelico, e malinconico alla sua mensa.
11 My child, treat yourself as wel as you can afford, and bring worthy offerings to the Lord.	11 Figliuolo di quello, che hai, fattene del bene, e fanne obblazioni degne a Dio.
12 Remember that death wil not delay, and that you have never seen Sheol's contract.	12 Ricorditi della morte, la quale non tarda, e della legge intimata a te di andar nel sepolcro: perocché è legge di questo secolo il morire assolutamente.
13 Be kind to your friend before you die, treat him as generously as you can afford.	13 Fa del bene al tuo amico prima di morire, e stendi la mano liberale verso del povero secondo la tua possibilità.
14 Do not refuse yourself the good things of today, do not let your share of what is lawfully desired passyou by.	14 Non ti privare di un buon giorno, e del buon dono non perderne nissuna parte.
15 Wil you not have to leave your fortune to another, and the fruit of your labour to be divided by lot?	15 Non lascerai tu i tuoi sudori, e te fatiche ad altri da divìdersi a sorte tra loro?
16 Give and receive, enjoy yourself -- there are no pleasures to be found in Sheol.	16 Da, e ricevi, e giustifica l'anima tua.
17 Like clothes, every body wil wear out, the age -- old law is, 'Everyone must die.'	17 Pratica la giustizia prima della tua morte; perocché non si può trovar cibo nel sepolcro.
18 Like foliage growing on a bushy tree, some leaves fal ing, others growing, so are the generations offlesh and blood: one dies, another is born.	18 Ogni carne appassisce com'erba, e come delle foglie, che spuntano da verde pianta,
19 Every achievement rots away and perishes, and with it goes its author.	19 Altre nascono, e altre cadono a terra, cosi delle generazioni della carne, e del sangue una finisce, e una nasce.
20 Blessed is anyone who meditates on wisdom, and reasons with intelligence,	20 Tutte le opere soggette alla corruzione verran meno una volta, e se n'anderà con esse colui, che le ha fatte.
21 who studies her ways in his heart, and ponders her secrets.	21 Ma tutte le opere elette saranno approvate, e chi le fece sarà per esse onorato.
22 He pursues her like a hunter, and lies in wait by her path;	22 Beato l'uomo, che è costante nella sapienza, e medita la giustizia, e colla sua mente pensa a Dio, che tutto vede all'intorno.
23 he peeps in at her windows, and listens at her doors;	23 Il quale va studiando in cuor suo le vie di lei, e ne penetra gli arcani, e va dietro a lei per rintracciarla, e dalle strade di lei non esce.
24 he lodges close to her house, and fixes his peg in her wal s;	24 Il quale per le finestre di lei rimira, e alla porta di lei sta a udire:
25 he pitches his tent at her side, and lodges in an excel ent lodging;	25 E presso alla casa di lei prende i suoi riposi, e fitto nette mura di essa un palo si fa un piccolo padiglione accanto a lei, e in questo piccolo padiglione avranno stanza perpetua tutti i beni.
26 he sets his children in her shade, and camps beneath her branches;	26 Alla tutela di lei raccomanderà egli i suoi figliuoli, ed egli starà sotto i rami di lei:
27 he is sheltered by her from the heat, and in her glory he makes his home.	27 E sotto l'ombra di lei sarà difeso dal caldo; e nella gloria di lei avrà riposo.
