Sirach 14

NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 Blessed is anyone who has not sinned in speech and who needs feel no remorse for sins.	1 ¡Feliz el hombre que no ha faltado con su lengua ni es atormentado por el remordimiento!
2 Blessed is anyone whose conscience brings no reproach and who has never given up hope.	2 ¡Feliz el que no tiene que reprocharse a sí mismo y no ve desvanecerse su esperanza!
3 Wealth is not the right thing for the niggardly, and what use are possessions to the covetous?	3 ¿De qué le sirve la riqueza al mezquino y para qué tiene el avaro su fortuna.
4 Whoever hoards by stinting himself is hoarding for others, and others wil live sumptuously on hisriches.	4 El que acumula, privándose de todo, acumula para otros, y otros se darán buena vida con sus bienes.
5 If someone is mean to himself, whom does he benefit? he does not even enjoy what is his own.	5 El que es malo consigo mismo ¿con quién será bueno? Ni él mismo disfruta de su fortuna.
6 No one is meaner than the person who is mean to himself, this is how his wickedness repays him.	6 No hay nadie peor que el avaro consigo mismo, y ese es el justo pago de su maldad.
7 If he does any good, he does it unintentional y, and in the end he himself reveals his wickedness.	7 Si hace algún bien, lo hace por descuido, y termina por revelar su malicia.
8 Wicked the person who has an envious eye, averting his face, and careless of others' lives.	8 Es un malvado el que mira con envidia, el que da vuelta la cara y menosprecia a los demás.
9 The eye of the grasping is not content with what he has, greed shrivels up the soul.	9 El ojo del ambicioso no está satisfecho con su parte y la ruindad reseca el alma.
10 The miser is grudging of bread, there is famine at his table.	10 El miserable mezquina el pan y tiene su mesa siempre vacía.
11 My child, treat yourself as wel as you can afford, and bring worthy offerings to the Lord.	11 En la medida de tus recursos, vive bien, hijo mío, y presenta al Señor ofrendas dignas.
12 Remember that death wil not delay, and that you have never seen Sheol's contract.	12 Recuerda que la muerte no tardará y que el pacto del Abismo no te ha sido revelado.
13 Be kind to your friend before you die, treat him as generously as you can afford.	13 Antes de morir, haz el bien a tu amigo y dale con largueza, en la medida de tus fuerzas.
14 Do not refuse yourself the good things of today, do not let your share of what is lawfully desired passyou by.	14 No te prives de un día agradable ni desaproveches tu parte de gozo legítimo.
15 Wil you not have to leave your fortune to another, and the fruit of your labour to be divided by lot?	15 ¿Acaso no dejarás a otro el fruto de tus trabajos, y el de tus fatigas, para que lo repartan en herencia?
16 Give and receive, enjoy yourself -- there are no pleasures to be found in Sheol.	16 Da y recibe, olvida tus preocupaciones, porque no hay que buscar delicias en el Abismo.
17 Like clothes, every body wil wear out, the age -- old law is, 'Everyone must die.'	17 Todo ser viviente envejece como un vestido, porque está en pie la antigua sentencia: «Tienes que morir».
18 Like foliage growing on a bushy tree, some leaves fal ing, others growing, so are the generations offlesh and blood: one dies, another is born.	18 En el follaje de un árbol tupido, unas hojas caen y otras brotan: así son las generaciones de carne y de sangre, una muere y otra nace.
19 Every achievement rots away and perishes, and with it goes its author.	19 Toda obra corruptible desaparece y el que la hizo se irá con ella.
20 Blessed is anyone who meditates on wisdom, and reasons with intelligence,	20 ¡Feliz el hombre que se ocupa de la sabiduría y el que razona con inteligencia,
21 who studies her ways in his heart, and ponders her secrets.	21 el que reflexiona sobre los caminos de la sabiduría y penetra en sus secretos!
22 He pursues her like a hunter, and lies in wait by her path;	22 El la sigue como un rastreador y se queda al acecho de sus pasos;
23 he peeps in at her windows, and listens at her doors;	23 espía por sus ventanas y escucha atentamente a sus puertas;
24 he lodges close to her house, and fixes his peg in her wal s;	24 busca albergue cerca de su casa y clava una estaca en sus muros;
25 he pitches his tent at her side, and lodges in an excel ent lodging;	25 instala su carpa cerca de ella y se alberga en la mejor de las moradas;
26 he sets his children in her shade, and camps beneath her branches;	26 pone a sus hijos bajo el abrigo de ella y vive a la sombre de sus ramas:
27 he is sheltered by her from the heat, and in her glory he makes his home.	27 ella lo protege del calor y él habita en su gloria.
