Proverbs 21

NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 Like flowing water is a king's heart in Yahweh's hand; he directs it wherever he pleases.	1 Simile a corsi d'acqua è il cuore del re in mano del Signore; a tutto ciò che vuole egli lo inclina.
2 All actions are straight in the doer's own eyes, but it is Yahweh who weighs hearts.	2 Ogni strada dell'uomo è retta agli occhi suoi; ma colui che pesa i cuori è il Signore.
3 To do what is upright and just is more pleasing to Yahweh than sacrifice.	3 Praticare la giustizia e l'equità dal Signore è preferito al sacrificio.
4 Haughty eye, proud heart, lamp of the wicked, nothing but sin.	4 Occhi alteri e cuore gonfio...: lampada dei malvagi è il peccato!
5 The hardworking is thoughtful, and al is gain; too much haste, and all that comes of it is want.	5 I progetti dell'uomo abile conducono all'abbondanza; ma chi si affretta certamente va in rovina.
6 To make a fortune with the help of a lying tongue: such is the idle fantasy of those who look for death.	6 Fare fortuna con una lingua bugiarda è vanità fugace di chi cerca la morte.
7 The violence of the wicked proves their ruin, for they refuse to do what is right.	7 La violenza degli empi li porta via lontano, perché ricusano di agire onestamente.
8 The way of the felon is devious, the conduct of the innocent straight.	8 Tortuosa è la via dell'uomo criminale; ma chi è puro agisce rettamente.
9 Better the corner of a roof to live on than a house shared with a quarrelsome woman.	9 E' meglio abitar sotto l'angolo di un tetto che in una grande casa con una donna litigiosa.
10 The soul of the wicked is intent on evil, to such a person no neighbour can ever do right.	10 L'anima dell'empio desidera il male, non trova grazia ai suoi occhi il suo vicino.
11 When a cynic is punished, simpletons grow wiser, but someone of understanding acquires knowledgeby instruction.	11 Quando il beffardo è castigato diviene saggio il semplice; quando il saggio è istruito egli accoglie la scienza.
12 The Upright One watches the house of the wicked; he hurls the wicked to destruction.	12 Il Giusto osserva la casa dell'empio; egli precipita gli empi nella disgrazia.
13 Whoever refuses to listen to the cry of the weak, wil in turn plead and not be heard.	13 Chi chiude l'orecchio al grido del povero, quando lui chiama, non riceve risposta.
14 Anger is mol ified by a covert gift, raging fury by a present under cover of the cloak.	14 Un dono fatto in segreto placa l'ira e un regalo sotto mano il violento furore.
15 Doing what is right fills the upright with joy, but evil-doers with terror.	15 E' gioia per il giusto operare l'equità, ma la distruzione è per chi fa il male.
16 Whoever strays far from the way of prudence wil rest in the assembly of shadows.	16 L'uomo che devia dal sentiero della prudenza dimorerà nell'assemblea delle ombre.
17 Pleasure-lovers stay poor, no one wil grow rich who loves wine and good living.	17 Sarà indigente chi ama il piacere; chi ama il vino e l'olio non si arricchirà.
18 The wicked is a ransom for the upright; and the law-breaker for the honest.	18 Riscatto per il giusto è l'uomo empio; al posto degli onesti c'è il ribelle.
19 Better to live in a desert land than with a quarrelsome and irritable woman.	19 E' meglio abitare in un deserto che con una donna litigiosa e amara.
20 The wise has valuables and oil at home, but a fool soon runs through both.	20 Tesoro prezioso e olio son nella casa del saggio; ma l'uomo stolto li divora.
21 Whoever pursues uprightness and faithful love will find life, uprightness and honour.	21 Chi persegue giustizia e bontà troverà vita e gloria.
22 A sage can scale a garrisoned city and shatter the rampart on which it relied.	22 Il sapiente scala una città agguerrita e si impossessa della forza in cui confida.
23 Watch kept over mouth and tongue keeps the watcher safe from disaster.	23 Chi custodisce la sua bocca e la sua lingua preserva se stesso dalle angosce.
24 Insolent, haughty -- the name is 'Cynic'; overweening pride marks such behaviour.	24 Orgoglioso, superbo ha nome il beffardo; uno che opera con orgoglio smisurato.
25 The idler's desires are the death of him, since his hands wil do no work.	25 Il desiderio uccide l'ignavo, perché le sue mani rifiutano l'agire.
26 Al day long the godless is racked by desire, the upright gives without ever refusing.	26 L'empio continua sempre a volere; il giusto invece presta e mai rifiuta.
27 The sacrifice of the wicked is abhorrent, above al if it is offered for bad motives.	27 Il sacrificio degli empi è un abominio; quanto più se si offre per delitti.
28 The false witness wil perish, but no one who knows how to listen wil ever be silenced.	28 Un falso testimonio perirà; ma chi ascolta parlerà per sempre.
29 The wicked man's strength shows on his face, but the honest it is whose steps are firm.	29 L'uomo empio assume aria d'importanza; l'uomo retto consolida la sua strada.
30 No wisdom, no understanding, no advice is worth anything before Yahweh.	30 Non c'è sapienza né intelligenza né consiglio che si oppongano al Signore.
31 Fit out the cavalry for the day of battle, but the victory is Yahweh's.	31 Si equipaggia il cavallo per il giorno della lotta; ma al Signore appartiene la salvezza.
