Proverbs 21

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA CEI 2008
1 Like flowing water is a king's heart in Yahweh's hand; he directs it wherever he pleases.	1 Il cuore del re è un corso d’acqua in mano al Signore: lo dirige dovunque egli vuole.
2 All actions are straight in the doer's own eyes, but it is Yahweh who weighs hearts.	2 Agli occhi dell’uomo ogni sua via sembra diritta, ma chi scruta i cuori è il Signore.
3 To do what is upright and just is more pleasing to Yahweh than sacrifice.	3 Praticare la giustizia e l’equità per il Signore vale più di un sacrificio.
4 Haughty eye, proud heart, lamp of the wicked, nothing but sin.	4 Occhi alteri e cuore superbo, lucerna dei malvagi è il peccato.
5 The hardworking is thoughtful, and al is gain; too much haste, and all that comes of it is want.	5 I progetti di chi è diligente si risolvono in profitto, ma chi ha troppa fretta va verso l’indigenza.
6 To make a fortune with the help of a lying tongue: such is the idle fantasy of those who look for death.	6 Accumulare tesori a forza di menzogne è futilità effimera di chi cerca la morte.
7 The violence of the wicked proves their ruin, for they refuse to do what is right.	7 La violenza dei malvagi li travolge, perché rifiutano di praticare la giustizia.
8 The way of the felon is devious, the conduct of the innocent straight.	8 La via di un uomo colpevole è tortuosa, ma l’innocente è retto nel suo agire.
9 Better the corner of a roof to live on than a house shared with a quarrelsome woman.	9 È meglio abitare su un angolo del tetto che avere casa in comune con una moglie litigiosa.
10 The soul of the wicked is intent on evil, to such a person no neighbour can ever do right.	10 L’anima del malvagio desidera fare il male, ai suoi occhi il prossimo non trova pietà.
11 When a cynic is punished, simpletons grow wiser, but someone of understanding acquires knowledgeby instruction.	11 Quando lo spavaldo viene punito, l’inesperto diventa saggio; egli acquista scienza quando il saggio viene istruito.
12 The Upright One watches the house of the wicked; he hurls the wicked to destruction.	12 Il giusto osserva la casa del malvagio e precipita i malvagi nella sventura.
13 Whoever refuses to listen to the cry of the weak, wil in turn plead and not be heard.	13 Chi chiude l’orecchio al grido del povero invocherà a sua volta e non otterrà risposta.
14 Anger is mol ified by a covert gift, raging fury by a present under cover of the cloak.	14 Un dono fatto in segreto calma la collera, un regalo di nascosto placa il furore violento.
15 Doing what is right fills the upright with joy, but evil-doers with terror.	15 È una gioia per il giusto quando è fatta giustizia, mentre è un terrore per i malfattori.
16 Whoever strays far from the way of prudence wil rest in the assembly of shadows.	16 L’uomo che si scosta dalla via della saggezza, riposerà nell’assemblea delle ombre dei morti.
17 Pleasure-lovers stay poor, no one wil grow rich who loves wine and good living.	17 Diventerà indigente chi ama i piaceri, chi ama vino e profumi non si arricchirà.
18 The wicked is a ransom for the upright; and the law-breaker for the honest.	18 Il malvagio serve da riscatto per il giusto e il perfido per gli uomini retti.
19 Better to live in a desert land than with a quarrelsome and irritable woman.	19 Meglio abitare in un deserto che con una moglie litigiosa e irritabile.
20 The wise has valuables and oil at home, but a fool soon runs through both.	20 Tesori preziosi e profumi sono nella dimora del saggio, ma l’uomo stolto dilapida tutto.
21 Whoever pursues uprightness and faithful love will find life, uprightness and honour.	21 Chi ricerca la giustizia e l’amore troverà vita e gloria.
22 A sage can scale a garrisoned city and shatter the rampart on which it relied.	22 Il saggio assale una città di guerrieri e abbatte la fortezza in cui essa confidava.
23 Watch kept over mouth and tongue keeps the watcher safe from disaster.	23 Chi custodisce la bocca e la lingua preserva se stesso dalle afflizioni.
24 Insolent, haughty -- the name is 'Cynic'; overweening pride marks such behaviour.	24 Il superbo arrogante si chiama spavaldo, egli agisce nell’eccesso dell’insolenza.
25 The idler's desires are the death of him, since his hands wil do no work.	25 Il desiderio del pigro lo porta alla morte, perché le sue mani rifiutano di lavorare.
26 Al day long the godless is racked by desire, the upright gives without ever refusing.	26 L’empio indulge tutto il giorno alla cupidigia, mentre il giusto dona senza risparmiare.
27 The sacrifice of the wicked is abhorrent, above al if it is offered for bad motives.	27 Il sacrificio dei malvagi è un orrore, tanto più se offerto con cattiva intenzione.
28 The false witness wil perish, but no one who knows how to listen wil ever be silenced.	28 Il falso testimone perirà, ma chi ascolta potrà parlare sempre.
29 The wicked man's strength shows on his face, but the honest it is whose steps are firm.	29 Il malvagio assume un’aria sfrontata, l’uomo retto controlla la propria condotta.
30 No wisdom, no understanding, no advice is worth anything before Yahweh.	30 Non c’è sapienza, non c’è prudenza, non c’è consiglio di fronte al Signore.
31 Fit out the cavalry for the day of battle, but the victory is Yahweh's.	31 Il cavallo è pronto per il giorno della battaglia, ma al Signore appartiene la vittoria.
