Proverbs 19

NEW JERUSALEM	Біблія
1 Better the poor living an honest life than the adept at double-talk who is a fool.	1 Ліпше убогий, що ходить у своїй невинності, | ніж дурний з нещирими устами.
2 Where knowledge is wanting, zeal is not good; whoever goes too quickly stumbles.	2 Навіть горливість без знання не добра, | а хто надто поспішає — помилиться.
3 Folly leads conduct astray, yet it is against Yahweh that the heart rages.	3 Безумність людини руйнує її долю, | та й ще на Господа вона серцем гнівається.
4 Wealth multiplies friends, but the one friend the poor has is taken away.	4 Багатство множить друзів, | а бідного покидає й друг його.
5 The false witness wil not go unpunished, no one who utters lies wil go free.	5 Фальшивий свідок не уникне кари; | хто дихає брехнею, не знайде рятунку.
6 The nobleman has many to court his favour, to a giver of gifts, everyone is friend.	6 Багато тих, що запобігають у князя ласки; | кожен друг тому, хто дає гостинці.
7 The poor man's brothers hate him, every one; his friends -- how much the more do these desert him!He goes in search of words, but there are none to be had.	7 Убогим всі брати нехтують, | тим більше його друзі віддаляються від нього; | у кого забагато приятелів, матиме з цього шкоду, | так само, хто вганяється за чужими справами.
8 Whoever acquires sense wins profit from it, whoever treasures understanding finds happiness.	8 Хто здобуває мудрість, той любить свою душу; | хто розуму пильнує, той знайде добро.
9 The false witness wil not go unpunished, whoever utters lies wil be destroyed.	9 Неправдомовний свідок не уникне кари; | хто дихає брехнею, той загине.
10 It is not fitting for a fool to live in luxury, stil less for a slave to govern princes.	10 Не личать дурневі розкоші, | тим менше слузі — панувати над князями.
11 Good sense makes for self-control, and for pride in overlooking an offence.	11 Розважність людини — бути повільним до гніву; | слава її — переступи забувати.
12 Like the roaring of a lion, the anger of a king, but like dew on the grass his favour.	12 Гнів царський — мов рик лева, | а його милість — як роса на рослину.
13 A foolish child is a disaster for the father, the bickerings of a wife are like an ever-dripping gutter.	13 Дурний син — батькові нещастя; | а суперечки жінчині — безупинне води накрапання.
14 From fathers comes inheritance of house and wealth, from Yahweh a wife who is discreet.	14 Дім і достатки — то по батьках спадок, | але від Господа розумна жінка.
15 Idleness lul s to sleep, the feckless soul wil go hungry.	15 Лінивство глибокий сон наводить; | душа недбала буде голодувати.
16 Keeping the commandment is self-preservation, but whoever despises these ways wil die.	16 Хто береже заповідь, той береже себе самого, | а хто словом нехтує, той помре.
17 Whoever is kind to the poor is lending to Yahweh who wil repay him the kindness done.	17 Хто чинить бідному добро, той Господеві позичає, | і він йому відплатить за його добродійство.
18 While there is hope for him, chastise your child, but do not get so angry as to kill him.	18 Карай твого сина, покіль є надія, | але б’ючи, не бий його до смерти.
19 The violent lays himself open to a penalty; spare him, and you aggravate his crime.	19 Вельми гнівливий прийме кару: | бо коли його хочеш рятувати, зробиш ще більше гнівливим.
20 Listen to advice, accept correction, to be the wiser in the time to come.	20 Слухай пораду й приймай навчання, | щоб стати мудрим наостанку.
21 Many are the plans in the human heart, but the purpose of Yahweh -- that stands firm.	21 Багато задумів у серці людини, | але воля Господня — вона встоїться.
22 Faithful love is what people look for in a person; they prefer the poor to a liar.	22 Плід людини — її милосердя; | убогий — ліпший, ніж брехун.
23 The fear of Yahweh leads to life, it brings food and shelter, without fear of evil.	23 Господній острах — життєдайний: | насичений ним — в спокої перебуватиме, і лихо його не спіткає.
24 Into the dish the idler dips his hand, but bring it back to his mouth he cannot.	24 Ледачий запускає свою руку в миску, | та тяжко йому її до рота донести.
25 Strike a cynic, and simpletons wil be more wary; reprove the intel igent and he wil understand yourmeaning.	25 Коли насмішника вдариш, то й простодушний стане розумнішим; | коли розумного скартати, він набереться знання.
26 He who il -treats his father and drives out his mother is a child both worthless and depraved.	26 Хто обдирає батька й проганяє матір, | той син ганебний, безсоромний.
27 Give up listening to instruction, my child, if you mean to stray from words of knowledge.	27 Кинь, сину, слухати науку, | що відводить від слів розумних.
28 A perjured witness holds the law in scorn; the mouth of the wicked feasts on evil-doing.	28 Лукавий свідок глузує з правосуддя, | а уста грішників пожирають беззаконня.
29 Punishments were made for mockers, and beating for the backs of fools.	29 Готові на насмішників дрюки, | і на спину дурних — удари.
