Proverbs 19

NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 Better the poor living an honest life than the adept at double-talk who is a fool.	1 Val più un povero di condotta onesta che un ricco dalle labbra tortuose.
2 Where knowledge is wanting, zeal is not good; whoever goes too quickly stumbles.	2 Senza scienza neppur l'impegno è buono e chi affretta il passo sbaglia via.
3 Folly leads conduct astray, yet it is against Yahweh that the heart rages.	3 La stoltezza dell'uomo rovina la sua strada; contro il Signore si irrita il suo cuore.
4 Wealth multiplies friends, but the one friend the poor has is taken away.	4 La ricchezza moltiplica gli amici, ma l'infelice è sfuggito dal suo amico.
5 The false witness wil not go unpunished, no one who utters lies wil go free.	5 Un testimonio falso non resterà impunito; chi dice menzogne non se la scamperà.
6 The nobleman has many to court his favour, to a giver of gifts, everyone is friend.	6 Molti adulano la faccia del potente; ognuno vuol farsi amico di chi può.
7 The poor man's brothers hate him, every one; his friends -- how much the more do these desert him!He goes in search of words, but there are none to be had.	7 Tutti i fratelli del povero lo odiano; ancor più gli amici si allontanano da lui; cerca di far discorsi, ma essi non ci sono.
8 Whoever acquires sense wins profit from it, whoever treasures understanding finds happiness.	8 Chi possiede un cuore è amico di se stesso; chi custodisce l'intelligenza troverà fortuna.
9 The false witness wil not go unpunished, whoever utters lies wil be destroyed.	9 Un testimonio falso non rimarrà impunito; chi dice le menzogne perirà.
10 It is not fitting for a fool to live in luxury, stil less for a slave to govern princes.	10 Non s'addice allo stolto vita agiata; ancor meno a uno schiavo comandare ai capi.
11 Good sense makes for self-control, and for pride in overlooking an offence.	11 Il buon senso di un uomo trattiene la sua ira; la sua gloria è passar sopra la colpa.
12 Like the roaring of a lion, the anger of a king, but like dew on the grass his favour.	12 Come il ruggito del leone è l'ira del re; ma come la rugiada sopra l'erba il suo favore.
13 A foolish child is a disaster for the father, the bickerings of a wife are like an ever-dripping gutter.	13 Un disastro per suo padre è un figlio stolto; stillicidio senza fine una moglie litigiosa.
14 From fathers comes inheritance of house and wealth, from Yahweh a wife who is discreet.	14 La casa e la ricchezza si ereditan dagli avi; ma è dono del Signore una moglie intelligente.
15 Idleness lul s to sleep, the feckless soul wil go hungry.	15 La pigrizia fa cadere nel torpore e un uomo sfaticato patirà la fame.
16 Keeping the commandment is self-preservation, but whoever despises these ways wil die.	16 Chi osserva il precetto custodisce la sua vita ma chi disprezza la parola, morirà.
17 Whoever is kind to the poor is lending to Yahweh who wil repay him the kindness done.	17 Chi ha pietà del misero fa credito al Signore; gli renderà la sua mercede.
18 While there is hope for him, chastise your child, but do not get so angry as to kill him.	18 Correggi tuo figlio, perché c'è la speranza; ma non trascendere fino ad ammazzarlo.
19 The violent lays himself open to a penalty; spare him, and you aggravate his crime.	19 Chi è grande nell'ira ne subisce la pena; se lo risparmi, gliene aggiungi ancora.
20 Listen to advice, accept correction, to be the wiser in the time to come.	20 Ascolta il consiglio e accogli il rimprovero, affinché tu arrivi ad esser saggio.
21 Many are the plans in the human heart, but the purpose of Yahweh -- that stands firm.	21 Molti progetti son nel cuor dell'uomo; ma il disegno del Signore si realizza.
22 Faithful love is what people look for in a person; they prefer the poor to a liar.	22 Ciò che si desidera dall'uomo è la bontà; e val più un povero che un bugiardo.
23 The fear of Yahweh leads to life, it brings food and shelter, without fear of evil.	23 Il timore del Signore porta alla vita, l'uomo dimora sazio e il male non lo tocca.
24 Into the dish the idler dips his hand, but bring it back to his mouth he cannot.	24 Tuffa il pigro la sua mano nel piatto; ma non riesce a portarla alla bocca.
25 Strike a cynic, and simpletons wil be more wary; reprove the intel igent and he wil understand yourmeaning.	25 Colpisci l'insensato e l'ingenuo si ravvede; riprendi l'intelligente e intende la ragione.
26 He who il -treats his father and drives out his mother is a child both worthless and depraved.	26 Chi insulta il padre e fa fuggir la madre, è un figlio spudorato e turpe.
27 Give up listening to instruction, my child, if you mean to stray from words of knowledge.	27 Cessa, figlio mio, di ascoltare l'istruzione, e ti allontanerai dalle parole della scienza.
28 A perjured witness holds the law in scorn; the mouth of the wicked feasts on evil-doing.	28 Un testimonio malvagio si beffa della giustizia; la bocca degli empi divora l'iniquità.
29 Punishments were made for mockers, and beating for the backs of fools.	29 Per gli insensati stan pronti i castighi; le botte per il dorso degli stolti.
