Proverbs 19

NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 Better the poor living an honest life than the adept at double-talk who is a fool.	1 Más vale un pobre que camina con integridad que un hombre insensato y de labios tortuosos.
2 Where knowledge is wanting, zeal is not good; whoever goes too quickly stumbles.	2 Sin la ciencia, ni el mismo celo es bueno, y el que se precipita malogra su intento.
3 Folly leads conduct astray, yet it is against Yahweh that the heart rages.	3 La necedad del hombre pervierte su camino, y luego su corazón se irrita contra el Señor.
4 Wealth multiplies friends, but the one friend the poor has is taken away.	4 La fortuna multiplica los amigos, pero el pobre se ve separado hasta de su amigo.
5 The false witness wil not go unpunished, no one who utters lies wil go free.	5 El testigo falso no quedará impune y el que profiere mentiras no escapará.
6 The nobleman has many to court his favour, to a giver of gifts, everyone is friend.	6 Son muchos los que adulan al noble y todos son amigos del que hace regalos.
7 The poor man's brothers hate him, every one; his friends -- how much the more do these desert him!He goes in search of words, but there are none to be had.	7 Al pobre hasta sus hermanos lo aborrecen, ¡cuánto más se alejarán de él sus amigos!
8 Whoever acquires sense wins profit from it, whoever treasures understanding finds happiness.	8 El que adquiere buen juicio se ama a sí mismo, al que es razonable le irá bien.
9 The false witness wil not go unpunished, whoever utters lies wil be destroyed.	9 El testigo falso no quedará impune y el que profiere mentiras perecerá.
10 It is not fitting for a fool to live in luxury, stil less for a slave to govern princes.	10 No te sienta bien al insensato una vida confortable, ¡cuánto menos a un esclavo gobernar a los príncipes!
11 Good sense makes for self-control, and for pride in overlooking an offence.	11 El buen juicio de un hombre aplaca su ira, y su gloria es pasar por alto una ofensa.
12 Like the roaring of a lion, the anger of a king, but like dew on the grass his favour.	12 Como rugido de león es la furia del rey, y su favor, como rocío sobre la hierba.
13 A foolish child is a disaster for the father, the bickerings of a wife are like an ever-dripping gutter.	13 Un hijo insensato es una calamidad para su padre, y las rencillas de una mujer son una gotera incesante.
14 From fathers comes inheritance of house and wealth, from Yahweh a wife who is discreet.	14 Casa y fortuna son herencia de los padres, pero una mujer prudente es un don del Señor.
15 Idleness lul s to sleep, the feckless soul wil go hungry.	15 La pereza hace caer en el letargo, y la persona indolente pasará hambre.
16 Keeping the commandment is self-preservation, but whoever despises these ways wil die.	16 El que guarda los preceptos se guarda a sí mismo, el que descuida su propia conducta morirá.
17 Whoever is kind to the poor is lending to Yahweh who wil repay him the kindness done.	17 El que se apiada del pobre presta al Señor, y él le devolverá el bien que hizo.
18 While there is hope for him, chastise your child, but do not get so angry as to kill him.	18 Corrige a tu hijo mientras haya esperanza, pero no te arrebates hasta hacerlo morir.
19 The violent lays himself open to a penalty; spare him, and you aggravate his crime.	19 El hombre irascible se expone a las multas, si tratas de ayudarlo, empeoras las cosas.
20 Listen to advice, accept correction, to be the wiser in the time to come.	20 Escucha el consejo y acepta la corrección, y al fin llegarás a ser sabio.
21 Many are the plans in the human heart, but the purpose of Yahweh -- that stands firm.	21 Hay muchos proyectos en el corazón del hombre, pero sólo se realiza el designio del Señor.
22 Faithful love is what people look for in a person; they prefer the poor to a liar.	22 Lo que se espera de un hombre es la fidelidad y más vale ser pobre que mentiroso.
23 The fear of Yahweh leads to life, it brings food and shelter, without fear of evil.	23 El temor del Señor lleva a la vida, el que se sacia de él pasa la noche sin ser visitado por el mal.
24 Into the dish the idler dips his hand, but bring it back to his mouth he cannot.	24 El perezoso hunde su mano en el plato y ni siquiera es capaz de llevársela a la boca.
25 Strike a cynic, and simpletons wil be more wary; reprove the intel igent and he wil understand yourmeaning.	25 Golpea al insolente, y el simple se hará precavido, reprende al inteligente, y sabrá entender.
26 He who il -treats his father and drives out his mother is a child both worthless and depraved.	26 El que maltrata a su padre y echa a su madre es un hijo que causa vergüenza y deshonor.
27 Give up listening to instruction, my child, if you mean to stray from words of knowledge.	27 Si dejas, hijo mío, de escuchar la instrucción, te extraviarás lejos de las palabras de la sabiduría.
28 A perjured witness holds the law in scorn; the mouth of the wicked feasts on evil-doing.	28 El testigo infame se burla del derecho, y la boca de los malvados devora la iniquidad.
29 Punishments were made for mockers, and beating for the backs of fools.	29 Hay castigos establecidos para los insolentes y golpes, para las espaldas de los necios.
