Proverbs 19

NEW JERUSALEM	SAGRADA BIBLIA
1 Better the poor living an honest life than the adept at double-talk who is a fool.	1 Mais vale um pobre que caminha na integridade que um insensato com lábios mentirosos.
2 Where knowledge is wanting, zeal is not good; whoever goes too quickly stumbles.	2 Sem a ciência, nem mesmo o zelo é bom: quem precipita seus passos, desvia-se.
3 Folly leads conduct astray, yet it is against Yahweh that the heart rages.	3 A loucura de um homem o leva a um mau caminho; é contra o Senhor que seu coração se irrita.
4 Wealth multiplies friends, but the one friend the poor has is taken away.	4 A riqueza aumenta o número de amigos, o pobre é abandonado pelo seu {único} companheiro.
5 The false witness wil not go unpunished, no one who utters lies wil go free.	5 O falso testemunho não fica sem castigo; o que profere mentira não escapará.
6 The nobleman has many to court his favour, to a giver of gifts, everyone is friend.	6 O homem generoso possui muitos lisonjeiros: todos se tornam amigos de quem dá.
7 The poor man's brothers hate him, every one; his friends -- how much the more do these desert him!He goes in search of words, but there are none to be had.	7 Todos os irmãos do pobre o odeiam, quanto mais seus amigos não hão de se afastar dele? Está em busca de palavras, mas não terá nada.
8 Whoever acquires sense wins profit from it, whoever treasures understanding finds happiness.	8 Quem adquire bom senso ama sua alma; o que observa a prudência encontra a felicidade.
9 The false witness wil not go unpunished, whoever utters lies wil be destroyed.	9 O falso testemunho não fica impune; o que profere mentira perecerá.
10 It is not fitting for a fool to live in luxury, stil less for a slave to govern princes.	10 Não convém ao insensato viver entre delícias, muito menos ainda a um escravo dominar os chefes.
11 Good sense makes for self-control, and for pride in overlooking an offence.	11 Um homem sábio sabe conter a sua cólera, e tem por honra passar por cima de uma ofensa.
12 Like the roaring of a lion, the anger of a king, but like dew on the grass his favour.	12 Cólera de rei, rugido de leão; favor de rei, orvalho sobre a erva.
13 A foolish child is a disaster for the father, the bickerings of a wife are like an ever-dripping gutter.	13 Um filho insensato é a desgraça de seu pai; a mulher intrigante é uma goteira inesgotável.
14 From fathers comes inheritance of house and wealth, from Yahweh a wife who is discreet.	14 Casas e bens são a herança dos pais, mas uma mulher sensata é um dom do Senhor.
15 Idleness lul s to sleep, the feckless soul wil go hungry.	15 A preguiça cai no torpor: a alma indolente terá fome.
16 Keeping the commandment is self-preservation, but whoever despises these ways wil die.	16 O que observa o preceito guarda sua vida; quem descuida de seu proceder morrerá.
17 Whoever is kind to the poor is lending to Yahweh who wil repay him the kindness done.	17 Quem se apieda do pobre empresta ao Senhor, que lhe restituirá o benefício.
18 While there is hope for him, chastise your child, but do not get so angry as to kill him.	18 Corrige teu filho enquanto há esperança, mas não te enfureças até fazê-lo perecer.
19 The violent lays himself open to a penalty; spare him, and you aggravate his crime.	19 O homem iracundo sofrerá um castigo; se o libertares, aumentarás a sua pena.
20 Listen to advice, accept correction, to be the wiser in the time to come.	20 Ouve os conselhos, aceita a instrução: tu serás sábio para o futuro.
21 Many are the plans in the human heart, but the purpose of Yahweh -- that stands firm.	21 Há muitos planos no coração do homem, mas é a vontade do Senhor que se realiza.
22 Faithful love is what people look for in a person; they prefer the poor to a liar.	22 O encanto de um homem é a sua caridade: mais vale o pobre que o mentiroso.
23 The fear of Yahweh leads to life, it brings food and shelter, without fear of evil.	23 O temor do Senhor conduz à vida; {o que o possui} é saciado: passará a noite sem a visita da desgraça.
24 Into the dish the idler dips his hand, but bring it back to his mouth he cannot.	24 O preguiçoso põe sua mão no prato e nem sequer a leva à boca.
25 Strike a cynic, and simpletons wil be more wary; reprove the intel igent and he wil understand yourmeaning.	25 Castiga o zombador e o simples tornar-se-á sábio; repreende o homem sensato e ele compreenderá por quê.
26 He who il -treats his father and drives out his mother is a child both worthless and depraved.	26 Quem maltrata seu pai, quem expulsa sua mãe é um filho infame do qual todos se envergonham.
27 Give up listening to instruction, my child, if you mean to stray from words of knowledge.	27 Cessa, meu filho, de ouvir as advertências e isto servirá para te afastares da sabedoria!
28 A perjured witness holds the law in scorn; the mouth of the wicked feasts on evil-doing.	28 O testemunho falso zomba da justiça, a boca dos ímpios devora a iniqüidade.
29 Punishments were made for mockers, and beating for the backs of fools.	29 As varas estão preparadas para os mofadores e os golpes para o dorso dos insensatos.
