1 Whoever lives alone fol ows private whims, and is angered by advice of any kind.	1 - Chi vuole allontanarsi dall'amico cerca pretesti, ma resterà poi per sempre col biasimo.
2 A fool takes no pleasure in understanding but only in airing an opinion.	2 Lo stolto non accoglie parole di prudenza a meno che tu gli parli secondo quello che volge in cuor suo.
3 When wickedness comes, indignity comes too, and, with contempt, dishonour.	3 L'empio quand'è giunto nel fondo dei peccati disprezza; ma lo seguono l'ignominia e l'obbrobrio.
4 Deep waters, such are human words: a gushing stream, the utterance of wisdom.	4 Acqua profonda son le parole dalla bocca dell'uomo, e il fonte della sapienza è un torrente che inonda.
5 It is not good to show partiality for the wicked and so to deprive the upright when giving judgement.	5 Non è bene portar rispetto al malvagioper far torto alla verità della giustizia.
6 The lips of a fool go to the law-courts with a mouth that pleads for a beating.	6 Le labbra dello stolto s'intromettono nelle contese e la sua bocca provoca le risse.
7 The mouth of the fool works its owner's ruin, the lips of a fool are a snare for their owner's life.	7 La bocca dello stolto è una sciagura per lui e le sue labbra la rovina dell'anima sua.
8 The words of a slanderer are tasty morsels that go right down into the bel y.	8 Le parole d'una lingua doppia sembrano la cosa più lieve, ma esse penetrano fin nelle intime viscere. Il timore abbatte il pigro e le anime degli uomini molli soffriranno la fame.
9 Whoever is idle at work is blood-brother to the destroyer.	9 Chi è molle e fiacco nel suo lavoro è fratello del dissipatore delle sue fatiche.
10 The name of Yahweh is a strong tower; the upright runs to it and is secure.	10 Una torre fortissima è il nome del Signore; vi accorre il giusto e sarà sollevato.
11 The wealth of the rich forms a stronghold, a high wal , as the rich supposes.	11 La fortuna del ricco è la sua città forte e come un fermo baluardo che lo circonda.
12 The human heart is haughty until destruction comes, before there can be glory there must be humility.	12 Prima di essere abbassato, si esalta il cuor umano e prima d'essere glorificato si umilia.
13 To retort without first listening is both foolish and embarrassing.	13 Chi risponde prima d'aver ascoltatosi mostra sciocco e degno di biasimo.
14 Sickness the human spirit can endure, but when the spirit is broken, who can bear this?	14 Lo spirito dell'uomo lo sostiene nella sua infermità, ma uno spirito irritabile in chi avrà sostegno?
15 The heart of the intel igent acquires learning, the ears of the wise search for knowledge.	15 Il cuore prudente acquisterà la scienza - e anche: l'orecchio dei sapienti cerca la dottrina.
16 A present will open al doors and win access to the great.	16 Il dono dell'uomo gli spalanca la via e gli fa largo davanti ai principi.
17 The first to plead is adjudged to be upright, until the next comes and cross-examines him.	17 Il giusto è il primo ad accusar se stesso, venga pure il suo amico e gli faccia la requisitoria.
18 The lot puts an end to disputes and decides between men of power.	18 La sorte acqueta le contese, e decide anche tra i potenti.
19 A brother offended is worse than a fortified city, and quarrels are like the locks of a keep.	19 Un fratello aiutato da un fratello è come una città fortificata; e le liti, come le sbarre dei castelli.
20 From the fruit of the mouth is a stomach fil ed, it is the yield of the lips that gives contentment.	20 Del frutto della sua bocca l'uomo sazierà il suo ventre, ed i proventi delle sue labbra lo sfameranno.
21 Death and life are in the gift of the tongue, those who indulge it must eat the fruit it yields.	21 La morte e la vita in poter della lingua; quelli che l'amano ne gusteranno i frutti.
22 He who finds a wife finds happiness, receiving a mark of favour from Yahweh.	22 Chi ha trovato una buona moglie ha trovato una fortuna e avrà ottenuto dal Signore una fonte di giocondità. Chi scaccia una buona moglie, scaccia la fortuna; chi tiene un'adultera è stolto ed empio.
23 The language of the poor is entreaty, the answer of the rich harshness.	23 Il povero supplicando parleràe il ricco risponderà arrogantemente.
24 There are friends who point the way to ruin, others are closer than a brother.	24 L'uomo amabile e socievole, sarà amico più affezionato d'un fratello.
