1 Whoever lives alone fol ows private whims, and is angered by advice of any kind.	1 Colui che si separa cerca le sue cupidità, E schernisce ogni legge e ragione
2 A fool takes no pleasure in understanding but only in airing an opinion.	2 Lo stolto non si diletta nella prudenza, Ma in ciò che il cuor suo si manifesti
3 When wickedness comes, indignity comes too, and, with contempt, dishonour.	3 Quando viene un empio, viene anche lo sprezzo, E il vituperio con ignominia
4 Deep waters, such are human words: a gushing stream, the utterance of wisdom.	4 Le parole della bocca dell’uomo eccellente sono acque profonde; La fonte di sapienza è un torrente che sgorga
5 It is not good to show partiality for the wicked and so to deprive the upright when giving judgement.	5 Egli non è bene d’aver riguardo alla qualità dell’empio, Per far torto al giusto nel giudicio
6 The lips of a fool go to the law-courts with a mouth that pleads for a beating.	6 Le labbra dello stolto entrano in contesa, E la sua bocca chiama le percosse.
7 The mouth of the fool works its owner's ruin, the lips of a fool are a snare for their owner's life.	7 La bocca dello stolto è la sua ruina, E le sue labbra sono il laccio dell’anima sua
8 The words of a slanderer are tasty morsels that go right down into the bel y.	8 Le parole di chi va bisbigliando paiono lusinghevoli; Ma scendono fin nell’interiora del ventre
9 Whoever is idle at work is blood-brother to the destroyer.	9 Chi si porta rimessamente nel suo lavoro, È fratello dell’uomo dissipatore
10 The name of Yahweh is a strong tower; the upright runs to it and is secure.	10 Il Nome del Signore è una forte torre; Il giusto vi ricorrerà, e sarà in salvo in luogo elevato
11 The wealth of the rich forms a stronghold, a high wal , as the rich supposes.	11 I beni del ricco son la sua città di fortezza, E come un alto muro alla sua immaginazione
12 The human heart is haughty until destruction comes, before there can be glory there must be humility.	12 Il cuor dell’uomo s’innalza avanti la ruina; Ma l’umiltà va davanti alla gloria
13 To retort without first listening is both foolish and embarrassing.	13 Chi fa risposta prima che abbia udito, Ciò gli è pazzia e vituperio
14 Sickness the human spirit can endure, but when the spirit is broken, who can bear this?	14 Lo spirito dell’uomo sostiene l’infermità di esso; Ma chi solleverà lo spirito afflitto?
15 The heart of the intel igent acquires learning, the ears of the wise search for knowledge.	15 Il cuor dell’uomo intendente acquista scienza; E l’orecchio de’ savi cerca conoscimento
16 A present will open al doors and win access to the great.	16 Il presente dell’uomo gli fa far largo, E lo conduce davanti a’ grandi
17 The first to plead is adjudged to be upright, until the next comes and cross-examines him.	17 Chi è il primo a piatir la sua causa ha ragione; Ma il suo compagno vien poi, ed esamina quello ch’egli ha detto
18 The lot puts an end to disputes and decides between men of power.	18 La sorte fa cessar le liti, E fa gli spartimenti fra i potenti
19 A brother offended is worse than a fortified city, and quarrels are like the locks of a keep.	19 Il fratello offeso è più inespugnabile che una forte città; E le contese tra fratelli son come le sbarre di un palazzo
20 From the fruit of the mouth is a stomach fil ed, it is the yield of the lips that gives contentment.	20 Il ventre dell’uomo sarà saziato del frutto della sua bocca; Egli sarà saziato della rendita delle sue labbra
21 Death and life are in the gift of the tongue, those who indulge it must eat the fruit it yields.	21 Morte e vita sono in poter della lingua; E chi l’ama mangerà del frutto di essa
22 He who finds a wife finds happiness, receiving a mark of favour from Yahweh.	22 Chi ha trovata moglie ha trovata una buona cosa, Ed ha ottenuto favor del Signore
23 The language of the poor is entreaty, the answer of the rich harshness.	23 Il povero parla supplichevolmente; Ma il ricco risponde duramente
24 There are friends who point the way to ruin, others are closer than a brother.	24 Un uomo che ha degli amici deve portarsi da amico; E vi è tale amico, che è più congiunto che un fratello
