Proverbs 18

1 Whoever lives alone fol ows private whims, and is angered by advice of any kind.	1 Der Abtrünnige sucht nach einem Vorwand, um loszubrechen mit aller Gewalt.
2 A fool takes no pleasure in understanding but only in airing an opinion.	2 Der Tor hat kein Gefallen an Einsicht, vielmehr daran, sein Herz zur Schau zu stellen.
3 When wickedness comes, indignity comes too, and, with contempt, dishonour.	3 Kommt Frevel, kommt auch Verachtung und mit der Schandtat die Schmach.
4 Deep waters, such are human words: a gushing stream, the utterance of wisdom.	4 Tiefe Wasser sind die Worte aus dem Mund eines Menschen, ein sprudelnder Bach, eine Quelle der Weisheit.
5 It is not good to show partiality for the wicked and so to deprive the upright when giving judgement.	5 Es ist nicht gut, einen Schuldigen zu begünstigen und den Unschuldigen abzuweisen vor Gericht.
6 The lips of a fool go to the law-courts with a mouth that pleads for a beating.	6 Die Lippen des Toren beginnen Streit, sein Mund schreit nach Schlägen.
7 The mouth of the fool works its owner's ruin, the lips of a fool are a snare for their owner's life.	7 Dem Toren wird sein Mund zum Verderben; seine Lippen werden ihm selbst zur Falle.
8 The words of a slanderer are tasty morsels that go right down into the bel y.	8 Die Worte des Verleumders sind wie Leckerbissen, sie gleiten hinab in die Kammern des Leibes.
9 Whoever is idle at work is blood-brother to the destroyer.	9 Wer lässig ist bei seiner Arbeit, ist schon ein Bruder des Mörders.
10 The name of Yahweh is a strong tower; the upright runs to it and is secure.	10 Ein fester Turm ist der Name des Herrn, dorthin eilt der Gerechte und ist geborgen.
11 The wealth of the rich forms a stronghold, a high wal , as the rich supposes.	11 Für den Reichen ist sein Vermögen wie eine feste Stadt, wie eine hohe Mauer - in seiner Einbildung.
12 The human heart is haughty until destruction comes, before there can be glory there must be humility.	12 Vor dem Sturz ist das Herz des Menschen überheblich, aber der Ehre geht Demut voran.
13 To retort without first listening is both foolish and embarrassing.	13 Gibt einer Antwort, bevor er gehört hat, ist es Torheit und Schande für ihn.
14 Sickness the human spirit can endure, but when the spirit is broken, who can bear this?	14 Der Geist des Menschen überwindet die Krankheit, doch einen zerschlagenen Geist, wer kann den aufrichten?
15 The heart of the intel igent acquires learning, the ears of the wise search for knowledge.	15 Das Herz des Verständigen erwirbt sich Erkenntnis, das Ohr der Weisen sucht Erkenntnis.
16 A present will open al doors and win access to the great.	16 Geschenke schaffen dem Geber Raum und geleiten ihn vor die Großen.
17 The first to plead is adjudged to be upright, until the next comes and cross-examines him.	17 Recht bekommt in seinem Streitfall der Erste, aber dann kommt der andere und geht der Sache nach.
18 The lot puts an end to disputes and decides between men of power.	18 Streitigkeiten beendet das Los, es entscheidet zwischen Mächtigen.
19 A brother offended is worse than a fortified city, and quarrels are like the locks of a keep.	19 Ein getäuschter Bruder ist verschlossener als eine Festung, Streitigkeiten sind wie der Sperrriegel einer Burg.
20 From the fruit of the mouth is a stomach fil ed, it is the yield of the lips that gives contentment.	20 Von der Frucht seines Mundes wird ein jeder satt, vom Ertrag seiner Lippen wird er gesättigt.
21 Death and life are in the gift of the tongue, those who indulge it must eat the fruit it yields.	21 Tod und Leben stehen in der Macht der Zunge; wer sie liebevoll gebraucht, genießt ihre Frucht.
22 He who finds a wife finds happiness, receiving a mark of favour from Yahweh.	22 Wer eine Frau gefunden, hat Glück gefunden und das Gefallen des Herrn erlangt.
23 The language of the poor is entreaty, the answer of the rich harshness.	23 Flehentlich redet der Arme, der Reiche aber antwortet mit Härte.
24 There are friends who point the way to ruin, others are closer than a brother.	24 Manche Freunde führen ins Verderben, manch ein lieber Freund ist anhänglicher als ein Bruder.
