1 Whoever lives alone fol ows private whims, and is angered by advice of any kind.	1 Colui che vuoi ritirarsi dall'amico, cerca pretesti: egli in ogni tempo sarà degno di biasimo.
2 A fool takes no pleasure in understanding but only in airing an opinion.	2 Lo stolto non ha genio agli avvertimenti della prudenza, se tu non parli secondo quello, che egli ha in cuore.
3 When wickedness comes, indignity comes too, and, with contempt, dishonour.	3 L'empio quando è caduto nel profondo dei peccati, non ne fa caso; ma l'ignominia, e l'obbrobrio gli vanno appresso.
4 Deep waters, such are human words: a gushing stream, the utterance of wisdom.	4 Le parole, che scorrono dalla bocca del saggio, sono un acqua profonda, e la fontana della sapienza è un torrente, che inonda.
5 It is not good to show partiality for the wicked and so to deprive the upright when giving judgement.	5 Non è buona cosa l'aver riguardo alla persona dell'empio per far torto alla verità nel giudicare.
6 The lips of a fool go to the law-courts with a mouth that pleads for a beating.	6 Le labbra dello stolto si impacciano nelle risse: e la lingua di lui provoca gli affronti.
7 The mouth of the fool works its owner's ruin, the lips of a fool are a snare for their owner's life.	7 La bocca dello stolto è quella, che lo distrugge: e le tue labbra son la sua rovina.
8 The words of a slanderer are tasty morsels that go right down into the bel y.	8 Le parole della lingua doppia paiono la stessa semplicità; ma elle penetrano fin nelle intime viscere. Il timore abbatte il pigro: e le anime degli uomini effeminati patiranno la fame.
9 Whoever is idle at work is blood-brother to the destroyer.	9 Colui che è molle, ed infingardo nel suo lavoro, è fratello di chi manda in malora tutto quello, che ha fatto.
10 The name of Yahweh is a strong tower; the upright runs to it and is secure.	10 Torre fortissima è il nome del Signore: a lei corre il giusto, e sarà in luogo sicuro.
11 The wealth of the rich forms a stronghold, a high wal , as the rich supposes.	11 Le facoltà del ricco sono la sua città forte, e come la stabil muraglia, che lo circonda.
12 The human heart is haughty until destruction comes, before there can be glory there must be humility.	12 Prima ch'ei sia abbattuto si innalza il cuore dell'uomo, e prima di essere glorificato, egli è umiliato.
13 To retort without first listening is both foolish and embarrassing.	13 Chi risponde prima di aver ascoltato, si da a conoscere per istolto, e merita confusione.
14 Sickness the human spirit can endure, but when the spirit is broken, who can bear this?	14 Lo spirito dell'uomo sostiene la sua infermità: ma uno spirito facile all'ira chi potrà sostenerlo?
15 The heart of the intel igent acquires learning, the ears of the wise search for knowledge.	15 Il cuore dell'uomo prudente farà acquisto di scienza; e l'orecchio de' saggi cerca la dottrina.
16 A present will open al doors and win access to the great.	16 I doni, che fa un uomo aprono a lui la strada, e gli fan largo dinanzi a' principi.
17 The first to plead is adjudged to be upright, until the next comes and cross-examines him.	17 Il giusto è il primo ad accusare se stesso: vien (poi) il suo amico, e lo tiene a sindacato.
18 The lot puts an end to disputes and decides between men of power.	18 La sorte finisce le contese, e decide anche trai grandi.
19 A brother offended is worse than a fortified city, and quarrels are like the locks of a keep.	19 Il fratello aiutato dal fratello, è una forte città: e i giudizi sono come le sbarre delle porte della città.
20 From the fruit of the mouth is a stomach fil ed, it is the yield of the lips that gives contentment.	20 Le viscere dell'uomo si empieranno dei frutti della sua bocca, e dei proventi delle sue labbra sarà egli satollo.
21 Death and life are in the gift of the tongue, those who indulge it must eat the fruit it yields.	21 La morte, e la vita è in potere della lingua; e chi ne terrà conto mangerà de' fratti di lei.
22 He who finds a wife finds happiness, receiving a mark of favour from Yahweh.	22 Chi trova una buona moglie. Ha trovato un bene, e riceverà consolazione dal Signore. Chi ripudia la buona moglie, si togne un bene: e chi tiene un'adultera, è stolto, ed empio.
23 The language of the poor is entreaty, the answer of the rich harshness.	23 Il povero parla supplicando: e il ricco risponde con durezza.
24 There are friends who point the way to ruin, others are closer than a brother.	24 L'uomo amabile nel conversare sarà amico più, che un fratello.
