1 A wise child listens to a father's discipline, a cynic wil not listen to reproof.	1 - Figlio saggio, segno di educazione paterna, ma un discolo non dà ascolto quando si corregge.
2 The fruit of the mouth provides a good meal, but the soul of the treacherous feeds on violence.	2 L'uomo si sazierà dei beni, frutto della sua bocca, ma l'anima dei prevaricatori è iniqua.
3 A guard on the mouth makes life secure, whoever talks too much is lost.	3 Chi custodisce la sua bocca, custodisce l'anima sua, ma chi è sconsiderato nel parlare ne risentirà danno.
4 The idler hungers but has no food; hard workers get their fill.	4 Il pigro vuole e disvuole, ma l'anima dei laboriosi sarà impinguata.
5 The upright hates a lying word, but the wicked slanders and defames.	5 Il giusto detesterà la parola bugiarda, ma l'empio diffama e sarà infamato.
6 Uprightness stands guard over one whose way is honest, sin causes the ruin of the wicked.	6 La giustizia custodisce i passi dell'innocente, e l'empietà sovverte il peccatore.
7 There are some who, on nothing, pretend to be rich, some, with great wealth, pretend to be poor.	7 V'è chi fa il signore e non ha niente del tutto, un altro fa il mendico ed ha una gran ricchezza.
8 The ransom for life is a person's wealth; but the poor wil not hear the reproof.	8 L'uomo si riscatta la vita colle sue ricchezze, ma il povero non sente minaccia.
9 The light of the upright is joyful, the lamp of the wicked goes out.	9 La luce dei giusti mette allegria, e la lucerna degli empi si spegnerà!
10 Insolence breeds only disputes, wisdom lies with those who take advice.	10 Fra i superbi vi son sempre risse, ma i conciliativi si reggono con sapienza.
11 A sudden fortune wil dwindle away, accumulation little by little is the way to riches.	11 La roba fatta in fretta andrà calando, e quella raccolta a spizzico aumenterà.
12 Hope deferred makes the heart sick, desire fulfil ed is a tree of life.	12 La speranza differita affligge l'animo, e albero della vita, un desiderio raggiunto.
13 Contempt for the word is self-destructive, respect for the commandment wins salvation.	13 Chi disprezza una cosa s'impegna in avvenire, chi rispetta un ordine se ne starà in pace. Le anime fraudolente errano nei peccati, e i giusti sono pieni di misericordia e di compassione.
14 The teaching of the wise is a life-giving fountain for eluding the snares of death.	14 La legge dell'uomo saggio è una fonte viva, per scampare al pericolo della morte.
15 Good sense wins favour, but the way of the treacherous is hard.	15 La buona educazione dà grazia, ma sulla via degli indisciplinati c'è il precipizio.
16 Anyone of discretion acts by the light of knowledge, the fool parades his fol y.	16 L'uomo avveduto agisce in tutto con consiglio, ma chi è scemo sciorina la sua follia.
17 A bad messenger fal s into misfortune, a trusty messenger brings healing.	17 Il messo dell'empio cadrà nel male, e un ambasciatore fedele è rimedio salutare.
18 Whoever rejects discipline wins poverty and scorn; for anyone who accepts correction: honour.	18 Povertà e vergogna a chi lascia la correzione, ma chi è docile all'ammonitore avrà gloria.
19 Desire fulfil ed is sweet to the soul; fools are loth to turn -- from evil.	19 Soddisfare un desiderio fa piacere all'animo, gli stolti detestano coloro che fuggono il male.
20 Whoever walks with the wise becomes wise, whoever mixes with fools wil be ruined.	20 Chi cammina coi saggi si farà saggio, l'amico degli stolti diverrà simile a loro.
21 Evil wil pursue the sinner, but good wil reward the upright.	21 Il male perseguita i peccatori, e il bene ai giusti sarà retribuito.
22 The good bequeaths a heritage to children's children, the wealth of the sinner is stored away for theupright.	22 L'uomo dabbene lascerà eredi figli e nipoti, e riservata al giusto è la sostanza del peccatore.
23 Though the farms of the poor yield much food, some perish for lack of justice.	23 Il podere degli antenati dà cibo in abbondanza, e passa in mano altrui per mancanza di giudizio.
24 Whoever fails to use the stick hates his child; whoever is free with correction loves him.	24 Chi risparmia la verga odia il figlio suo, e chi lo ama, con premura lo corregge.
25 The upright eats to the full, the bel y of the wicked goes empty.	25 Il giusto avrà da mangiare e da satollarsi a sua voglia, ma il ventre degli empi non si sazierà mai.
