1 God of vengeance, Yahweh, God of vengeance, shine forth!	1 Dio vendicatore, Signore,Dio vendicatore, risplendi!
2 Arise, judge of the world, give back the proud what they deserve!	2 Àlzati, giudice della terra,rendi ai superbi quello che si meritano!
3 How long are the wicked, Yahweh, how long are the wicked to triumph?	3 Fino a quando i malvagi, Signore,fino a quando i malvagi trionferanno?
4 They bluster and boast, they flaunt themselves, all the evil-doers.	4 Sparleranno, diranno insolenze,si vanteranno tutti i malfattori?
5 They crush your people, Yahweh, they oppress your heritage,	5 Calpestano il tuo popolo, Signore,opprimono la tua eredità.
6 they murder the widow and the stranger, bring the orphan to a violent death.	6 Uccidono la vedova e il forestiero,massacrano gli orfani.
7 They say, 'Yahweh is not looking, the God of Jacob is taking no notice.'	7 E dicono: «Il Signore non vede,il Dio di Giacobbe non intende».
8 Take notice yourselves, you coarsest of people! Fools, when wil you learn some sense?	8 Intendete, ignoranti del popolo:stolti, quando diventerete saggi?
9 Shal he who implanted the ear not hear, he who fashioned the eye not see?	9 Chi ha formato l’orecchio, forse non sente?Chi ha plasmato l’occhio, forse non vede?
10 Shal he who instructs nations not punish? Yahweh, the teacher of al people,	10 Colui che castiga le genti, forse non punisce,lui che insegna all’uomo il sapere?
11 knows human plans and how insipid they are.	11 Il Signore conosce i pensieri dell’uomo:non sono che un soffio.
12 How blessed are those you instruct, Yahweh, whom you teach by means of your law,	12 Beato l’uomo che tu castighi, Signore,e a cui insegni la tua legge,
13 to give them respite in evil times, til a pit is dug for the wicked.	13 per dargli riposo nei giorni di sventura,finché al malvagio sia scavata la fossa;
14 Yahweh will not abandon his people, he wil not desert his heritage;	14 poiché il Signore non respinge il suo popoloe non abbandona la sua eredità,
15 for judgement will again become saving justice, and in its wake al upright hearts will fol ow.	15 il giudizio ritornerà a essere giustoe lo seguiranno tutti i retti di cuore.
16 Who rises up on my side against the wicked? Who stands firm on my side against al evil-doers?	16 Chi sorgerà per me contro i malvagi?Chi si alzerà con me contro i malfattori?
17 If Yahweh did not come to my help, I should soon find myself dwel ing in the silence.	17 Se il Signore non fosse stato il mio aiuto,in breve avrei abitato nel regno del silenzio.
18 I need only say, 'I am slipping,' for your faithful love, Yahweh, to support me;	18 Quando dicevo: «Il mio piede vacilla»,la tua fedeltà, Signore, mi ha sostenuto.
19 however great the anxiety of my heart, your consolations soothe me.	19 Nel mio intimo, fra molte preoccupazioni,il tuo conforto mi ha allietato.
20 Are you partner to a destructive court, that gives disorder the status of law?	20 Può essere tuo alleato un tribunale iniquo,che in nome della legge provoca oppressioni?
21 They make an attack on the life of the upright, and condemn innocent blood.	21 Si avventano contro la vita del giustoe condannano il sangue innocente.
22 No! Yahweh is a stronghold to me, my God is my rock of refuge.	22 Ma il Signore è il mio baluardo,roccia del mio rifugio è il mio Dio.
23 He turns back their guilt on themselves, annihilates them for their wickedness, he annihilates them,Yahweh our God.	23 Su di loro farà ricadere la loro malizia,li annienterà per la loro perfidia,li annienterà il Signore, nostro Dio.
