[For the choirmaster Tune: 'Lilies . . .' Of the sons of Korah Poem Love song] My heart is stirred by anoble theme, I address my poem to the king, my tongue the pen of an expert scribe. | 1 Unto the end. To the sons of Korah, for confidants. A Psalm. |
Of al men you are the most handsome, gracefulness is a dew upon your lips, for God has blessed youfor ever. | 2 Our God is our refuge and strength, a helper in the tribulations that have greatly overwhelmed us. |
Warrior, strap your sword at your side, in your majesty and splendour advance, | 3 Because of this, we will not be afraid when the earth will be turbulent and the mountains will be transferred into the heart of the sea. |
ride on in the cause of truth, gentleness and uprightness. Stretch the bowstring tight, lending terror toyour right hand. | 4 They thundered, and the waters were stirred up among them; the mountains have been disturbed by his strength. |
Your arrows are sharp, nations lie at your mercy, the king's enemies lose heart. | 5 The frenzy of the river rejoices the city of God. The Most High has sanctified his tabernacle. |
Your throne is from God, for ever and ever, the sceptre of your kingship a sceptre of justice, | 6 God is in its midst; it will not be shaken. God will assist it in the early morning. |
you love uprightness and detest evil. This is why God, your God, has anointed you with oil ofgladness, as none of your rivals, | 7 The peoples have been disturbed, and the kingdoms have been bowed down. He uttered his voice: the earth has been moved. |
your robes al myrrh and aloes. From palaces of ivory, harps bring you joy, | 8 The Lord of hosts is with us. The God of Jacob is our supporter. |
in your retinue are daughters of kings, the consort at your right hand in gold of Ophir. | 9 Draw near and behold the works of the Lord: what portents he has set upon the earth, |
Listen, my daughter, attend to my words and hear; forget your own nation and your ancestral home, | 10 carrying away wars even to the end of the earth. He will crush the bow and break the weapons, and he will burn the shield with fire. |
then the king will fal in love with your beauty; he is your lord, bow down before him. | 11 Be empty, and see that I am God. I will be exalted among the peoples, and I will be exalted upon the earth. |
The daughter of Tyre wil court your favour with gifts, and the richest of peoples | 12 The Lord of hosts is with us. The God of Jacob is our supporter. |
with jewels set in gold. Clothed
in brocade, the king's daughter is led within to the king with the maidens of her retinue; hercompanions are brought to her,
they enter the king's palace with joy and rejoicing.
Instead of your ancestors you will have sons; you wil make them rulers over the whole world.
I wil make your name endure from generation to generation, so nations will sing your praise for everand ever. |
