[For the choirmaster Tune: 'Lilies . . .' Of the sons of Korah Poem Love song] My heart is stirred by anoble theme, I address my poem to the king, my tongue the pen of an expert scribe.1 For the leader; according to "Lilies." A maskil of the Korahites. A love song.
Of al men you are the most handsome, gracefulness is a dew upon your lips, for God has blessed youfor ever.2 My heart is stirred by a noble theme, as I sing my ode to the king. My tongue is the pen of a nimble scribe.
Warrior, strap your sword at your side, in your majesty and splendour advance,3 You are the most handsome of men; fair speech has graced your lips, for God has blessed you forever.
ride on in the cause of truth, gentleness and uprightness. Stretch the bowstring tight, lending terror toyour right hand.4 Gird your sword upon your hip, mighty warrior! In splendor and majesty ride on triumphant!
Your arrows are sharp, nations lie at your mercy, the king's enemies lose heart.5 In the cause of truth and justice may your right hand show you wondrous deeds.
Your throne is from God, for ever and ever, the sceptre of your kingship a sceptre of justice,6 Your arrows are sharp; peoples will cower at your feet; the king's enemies will lose heart.
you love uprightness and detest evil. This is why God, your God, has anointed you with oil ofgladness, as none of your rivals,7 Your throne, O god, stands forever; your royal scepter is a scepter for justice.
your robes al myrrh and aloes. From palaces of ivory, harps bring you joy,8 You love justice and hate wrongdoing; therefore God, your God, has anointed you with the oil of gladness above your fellow kings.
in your retinue are daughters of kings, the consort at your right hand in gold of Ophir.9 With myrrh, aloes, and cassia your robes are fragrant. From ivory-paneled palaces stringed instruments bring you joy.
Listen, my daughter, attend to my words and hear; forget your own nation and your ancestral home,10 Daughters of kings are your lovely wives; a princess arrayed in Ophir's gold comes to stand at your right hand.
then the king will fal in love with your beauty; he is your lord, bow down before him.11 Listen, my daughter, and understand; pay me careful heed. Forget your people and your father's house,
The daughter of Tyre wil court your favour with gifts, and the richest of peoples12 that the king might desire your beauty. He is your lord;
with jewels set in gold. Clothed13 honor him, daughter of Tyre. Then the richest of the people will seek your favor with gifts.
in brocade, the king's daughter is led within to the king with the maidens of her retinue; hercompanions are brought to her,14 All glorious is the king's daughter as she enters, her raiment threaded with gold;
they enter the king's palace with joy and rejoicing.15 In embroidered apparel she is led to the king. The maids of her train are presented to the king.
Instead of your ancestors you will have sons; you wil make them rulers over the whole world.16 They are led in with glad and joyous acclaim; they enter the palace of the king.
I wil make your name endure from generation to generation, so nations will sing your praise for everand ever.17 The throne of your fathers your sons will have; you shall make them princes through all the land.
I will make your name renowned through all generations; thus nations shall praise you forever.
