1 Bildad of Shuah spoke next. He said:	1 - Prese allora a parlare Baldad il Suhita e disse:
2 How much longer are you going to talk like this and go blustering on in this way?	2 «Fino a quando dirai tu tali cose, e vento impetuoso saranno i discorsi della tua bocca?
3 Can God deflect the course of right or Shaddai falsify justice?	3 Forse che Dio fa violenza al diritto, ovvero l'Onnipotente sconvolge la giustizia?
4 If your sons sinned against him, he has punished them for their wrong-doing.	4 Quantunque i tuoi figli abbian peccato contro di lui, ed egli li abbia dati in balìa del loro delitto,
5 You for your part, if you are pure and honest, must now seek God, plead with Shaddai.	5 tuttavia se tu t'affretterai a ricorrere a Dio, e se volgerai preghiere all'Onnipotente,
6 Forthwith his light wil shine on you and he wil restore an upright man's house to prosperity.	6 qualora tu proceda con purità e rettitudine, e la speranza dell'ipocrita svanirà, e tranquilla renderà la tua dimora di giustizia;
7 Your former state wil seem as nothing to you, so great wil your future be.	7 tanto che se il tuo passato fu piccola cosa, il tuo avvenire s'accrescerà di molto.
8 Question the generation that has passed, meditate on the experience of its ancestors-	8 Consulta infatti l'età primiera, e scruta diligentemente le memorie dei padri
9 for we children of yesterday, we know nothing, our life on earth passes like a shadow-	9 (noi invero siamo di ieri ed ignoranti, giacché come un'ombra sono i dì nostri sulla terra)
10 but they wil teach you, they will tel you, and their thought is expressed in these sayings,	10 ed essi t'ammaestreranno, e parlandotidal loro cuore estrarranno i detti [seguenti]:
11 'Can papyrus flourish except in marshes? Without water can the rushes grow?	11 Può forse verdeggiare la pianta del papiro senza l'umidità, ovvero può crescere la giuncaia senza l'acqua?
12 Even when green and before being cut, fastest of al plants they wither.	12 Essa è ancora nel suo rigoglio, non pronta ad esser divelta, che prima d'ogni altra erba appassisce.
13 Such is the fate of al who forget God; so perishes the hope of the godless.	13 Tale è la sorte di quanti dimenticano Dio, e la speranza dell'ipocrita svanirà.
14 His hope is nothing but gossamer, his confidence a spider's web.	14 Non si compiacerà della sua stoltezza, e come tela di ragno sarà la sua fiducia:
15 Let him lean on his house, it wil not stand firm; cling to it, it wil not hold.	15 s'appoggerà egli sulla sua casa, ma non resisterà, la rafforzerà con sostegni, ma non starà su.
16 Like some lush plant in the sunlight, he sent his young shoots sprouting over the garden;	16 [Albero] rigoglioso egli appare nel cospetto del sole, e nel suo spuntare le sue fronde s'espandono,
17 but his roots were twined in a heap of stones, he drew his life among the rocks.	17 fra la maceria di pietre le sue radici s'intrecciano, e fra sassi egli dimora:
18 Snatch him from his bed, and it denies it ever saw him.	18 ma se alcun lo recide via dal suo luogo, questo lo rinnega esclamando: - Non ti conosco! -
19 Now he rots on the roadside, and others are springing up in the soil.	19 Questa infatti è la consolazione della sua sorte, che dal suolo altre [piante] germoglino.
20 Believe me, God neither spurns anyone of integrity, nor lends his aid to the evil.	20 Dio non rigetta l'uomo onesto, nè stende la mano [in aiuto] agli empii.
21 Once again laughter may fil your mouth and cries of joy break from your lips.	21 Egli ancora riempirà di sorriso la tua bocca, e le tue labbra di giubilo;
22 Your enemies will be covered with shame and the tent of the wicked wil vanish!'	22 quei che t'odiano saranno ricoperti di confusione, e la tenda degli empii non sussisterà.»
