Job 36

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA TINTORI
1 Elihu went on speaking. He said:	1 Poi Eliu, continuando a parlare, disse:
2 Be patient a little longer while I explain, for I have more to say on God's behalf.	2 « Sopportami un poco, e t'istruirò, perchè ho ancora da parlare in difesa di Dio.
3 I shal range far afield for my arguments to prove my Maker just.	3 Prenderò la mia scienza dal suo principio, e proverò che il mio creatore è giusto.
4 I guarantee, nothing I shal say wil be untrue: you have a man of sound learning here.	4 Per certo i miei discorsi sono senza menzogna, e la mia perfetta scienza ti sarà provata.
5 God does not reject anyone whose heart is pure	5 Dio non rigetta i potenti, perchè egli stesso è potente,
6 or let the sinner live on in al his power. He does accord fair judgement to the afflicted;	6 ma non salva gli empi, e fa giustizia ai poveri.
7 he does uphold what the upright deserve. When he raises kings to thrones, if they grow proud of theirunending rule,	7 Egli non toglie i suoi occhi dal giusto. Egli colloca per sempre i re sul trono ed essi sono esaltati
8 then he fetters them with chains, they are caught in the bonds of affliction.	8 e se sono stretti in camene e avvinti dai legami della miseria,
9 He shows them the import of their deeds, of the sins of pride they have committed.	9 iddio farà loro veder le loro opere, le loro sceleratezze, le loro violenze,
10 In their ears he sounds a warning, ordering them to turn back from doing wrong.	10 aprirà pure loro le orecchie per correggerli, e parlerà loro perchè si ritraggano dall'iniquità.
11 If they take notice and obey him, the rest of their days are prosperous and the years pass pleasantly.	11 Se ascolteranno, e obbediranno, finiranno i loro giorni nella felicità, e i loro anni nella gloria;
12 If not, they go down the Canal and perish in their stupidity.	12 ma se non ascolteranno, passeran per la spada e periranno nella loro stoltezza.
13 The stubborn, who cherish their anger and do not cry for help when he chains them,	13 I simulatori e i doppi di cuore provocano l'ira di Dio; nè implorano Dio quando sono in catene.
14 die in the bloom of youth or live among the male prostitutes of the temple.	14 La loro anima perirà nella tempesta e la loro vita perirà tra gli effeminati.
15 But God saves the afflicted by his affliction, warning him in his misery.	15 Dio libererà il povero dalle strettezze, e gli aprirà l'orecchio nella tribolazione.
16 You, too, he would like to snatch from torment. While you were enjoying boundless abundance, withrich food piled high on your table,	16 Egli adunque ti salverà dall'abisso stretto e senza fondo, e ti metterà al laigo, e ti riposerai alla tua mensa, carica di grasse vivande.
17 you did not bring the wicked to trial and did not give fair judgement to the orphan.	17 La tua causa è stata giudicata come quella d'un empio: riceverai secondo la causa e la condanna.
18 Beware of being led astray by abundance, of being corrupted by expensive presents.	18 Dunque non ti far prendere dall'ira in modo da opprimere qualcuno, e non andar fuori di strada per la gran quantità dei doni.
19 Take the powerful to law, not merely the penniless, those whose arm is strong, not merely the weak.	19 Umilia la tua grandezza, senza esservi costretto dalla sferza, ciò che è forte e potente.
20 Do not crush people you do not know to instal your relations in their place.	20 Non protrarre la notte, affinchè nel luo go di essi salgano i popoli.
21 Avoid any tendency to wrong-doing, for this is why affliction is testing you now.	21 Guardati dall'andar verso l'iniquità, perchè cominciasti a seguirla dopo la miseria.
22 See, God is sublime in his strength and who can teach lessons as he does?	22 Ecco, Dio è sublime nella sua potenza, e nessun dei legislatori è simile a lui.
23 Who has even told him which course to take, or dared to say to him, 'You have done wrong'?	23 Chi potrà scrutare le sue vie? Chi può dirgli: Tu hai fatto ingiustizia?
24 Consider, rather, how you may praise his work, a theme that many have sung.	24 Ricordati che tu non comprendi la sua opera, dagli uomini celebrata coi canti.
25 This is something that everyone can see, gazing, as we do, from afar.	25 Tutti gli uomini lo vedono, ciascuno lo mira da lungi.
26 Yes, the greatness of God exceeds our knowledge, the number of his years is past counting.	26 Ecco, Dio è grande e sorpassa ogni nostra scienza, il numero dei suoi anni è incalcolabile.
27 It is he who makes the raindrops smal and pulverises the rain into mist.	27 Egli distacca le stille della pioggia e versa gli acquazzoni a torrenti,
28 And the clouds then pour this out, sending it streaming down on the human race.	28 che erompono dalle nubi, le quali coprono tutto in alto.
29 And who can fathom how he spreads the clouds, or why such crashes thunder from his tent?	29 Egli distende quando vuole le nuvole, come la sua tenda,
30 He spreads a mist before him and covers the tops of the mountains.	30 e di lassù manda folgori e lampi, e copre gli ultimi lidi del mare.
31 By these means, he sustains the peoples, giving them plenty to eat.	31 Con questi mezzi egli giudica i popoli e dà nutrimento a gran numero di morteli.
32 He gathers up the lightning in his hands, assigning it the mark where to strike.	32 nelle sue mani nasconde la luce e le comanda di tornare di nuovo.
33 His crashing gives warning of its coming, anger flashes out against iniquity.	33 Egli fa capire a chi lo ama che essa è in suo dominio e che ad essa può salire ».
