Job 36

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA CEI 2008
1 Elihu went on speaking. He said:	1 Eliu continuò a dire:
2 Be patient a little longer while I explain, for I have more to say on God's behalf.	2 «Abbi un po’ di pazienza e io ti istruirò, perché c’è altro da dire in difesa di Dio.
3 I shal range far afield for my arguments to prove my Maker just.	3 Prenderò da lontano il mio sapere e renderò giustizia al mio creatore.
4 I guarantee, nothing I shal say wil be untrue: you have a man of sound learning here.	4 Non è certo menzogna il mio parlare: è qui con te un uomo dalla scienza perfetta.
5 God does not reject anyone whose heart is pure	5 Ecco, Dio è grande e non disprezza nessuno, egli è grande per la fermezza delle sue decisioni.
6 or let the sinner live on in al his power. He does accord fair judgement to the afflicted;	6 Non lascia vivere l’iniquo e rende giustizia ai miseri.
7 he does uphold what the upright deserve. When he raises kings to thrones, if they grow proud of theirunending rule,	7 Non stacca gli occhi dai giusti, li fa sedere sui troni dei re e li esalta per sempre.
8 then he fetters them with chains, they are caught in the bonds of affliction.	8 Se sono avvinti in catene, o sono stretti dai lacci dell’afflizione,
9 He shows them the import of their deeds, of the sins of pride they have committed.	9 Dio mostra loro gli errori e i misfatti che hanno commesso per orgoglio.
10 In their ears he sounds a warning, ordering them to turn back from doing wrong.	10 Apre loro gli orecchi alla correzione e li esorta ad allontanarsi dal male.
11 If they take notice and obey him, the rest of their days are prosperous and the years pass pleasantly.	11 Se ascoltano e si sottomettono, termineranno i loro giorni nel benessere e i loro anni fra le delizie.
12 If not, they go down the Canal and perish in their stupidity.	12 Ma se non ascoltano, passeranno attraverso il canale infernale e spireranno senza rendersene conto.
13 The stubborn, who cherish their anger and do not cry for help when he chains them,	13 I perversi di cuore si abbandonano all’ira, non invocano aiuto, quando Dio li incatena.
14 die in the bloom of youth or live among the male prostitutes of the temple.	14 Si spegne in gioventù la loro vita, la loro esistenza come quella dei prostituti.
15 But God saves the afflicted by his affliction, warning him in his misery.	15 Ma Dio libera il povero mediante l'afflizione, e con la sofferenza gli apre l’orecchio.
16 You, too, he would like to snatch from torment. While you were enjoying boundless abundance, withrich food piled high on your table,	16 Egli trarrà anche te dalle fauci dell’angustia verso un luogo spazioso, non ristretto, e la tua tavola sarà colma di cibi succulenti.
17 you did not bring the wicked to trial and did not give fair judgement to the orphan.	17 Ma se di giudizio iniquo sei pieno, giudizio e condanna ti seguiranno.
18 Beware of being led astray by abundance, of being corrupted by expensive presents.	18 Fa’ che l’ira non ti spinga allo scherno, e che il prezzo eccessivo del riscatto non ti faccia deviare.
19 Take the powerful to law, not merely the penniless, those whose arm is strong, not merely the weak.	19 Varrà forse davanti a lui il tuo grido d’aiuto nell’angustia o tutte le tue risorse di energia?
20 Do not crush people you do not know to instal your relations in their place.	20 Non desiderare che venga quella notte nella quale i popoli sono sradicati dalla loro sede.
21 Avoid any tendency to wrong-doing, for this is why affliction is testing you now.	21 Bada di non volgerti all’iniquità, poiché per questo sei stato provato dalla miseria.
22 See, God is sublime in his strength and who can teach lessons as he does?	22 Ecco, Dio è sublime nella sua potenza; quale maestro è come lui?
23 Who has even told him which course to take, or dared to say to him, 'You have done wrong'?	23 Chi mai gli ha imposto il suo modo d’agire o chi mai ha potuto dirgli: “Hai agito male?”.
24 Consider, rather, how you may praise his work, a theme that many have sung.	24 Ricòrdati di lodarlo per le sue opere, che l’umanità ha cantato.
25 This is something that everyone can see, gazing, as we do, from afar.	25 Tutti le contemplano, i mortali le ammirano da lontano.
26 Yes, the greatness of God exceeds our knowledge, the number of his years is past counting.	26 Ecco, Dio è così grande che non lo comprendiamo, è incalcolabile il numero dei suoi anni.
27 It is he who makes the raindrops smal and pulverises the rain into mist.	27 Egli attrae in alto le gocce d’acqua e scioglie in pioggia i suoi vapori
28 And the clouds then pour this out, sending it streaming down on the human race.	28 che le nubi rovesciano, grondano sull’uomo in quantità.
29 And who can fathom how he spreads the clouds, or why such crashes thunder from his tent?	29 Chi può calcolare la distesa delle nubi e i fragori della sua dimora?
30 He spreads a mist before him and covers the tops of the mountains.	30 Ecco, egli vi diffonde la sua luce e ricopre le profondità del mare.
31 By these means, he sustains the peoples, giving them plenty to eat.	31 In tal modo alimenta i popoli e offre loro cibo in abbondanza.
32 He gathers up the lightning in his hands, assigning it the mark where to strike.	32 Con le mani afferra la folgore e la scaglia contro il bersaglio.
33 His crashing gives warning of its coming, anger flashes out against iniquity.	33 Il suo fragore lo annuncia, la sua ira si accende contro l’iniquità.
